  1. I hope somebody else that can help me....So I just bought a brand new fluval flex 15 and I really want to do plants with it but I just don't know what works good with that type of tank and what you guys recommend and what do you think the best plants I should go with cuz I really do not know much about doing planted tanks and eventually I want to do fish but that can wait I really want to get the plants right
  2. Okay for those that follow this 10 gallon tank was my first tank it also started MTS with me, but in the beginning it has the trio of guppies which had 2 sets of fry about a year ago, they got moved into a 20gL, which left this tank partially drained for a month or two which somehow became a cyclops tank all by itself which I tried to Nuke with periclens cuz I thought they were parasites lol, before someone here told me what they, which for the longest I used it as a "death tank" just a tank full of Cyclops and snails that Id put all the dead fish, all the dead plants, everything I didn't want in any other tanks into it and just let it rot away, no filter, no Air, then one day I decide you know what let's do that, I add a 150w led (23w) and a 10g sponge, and boom green water, I add a hang on the back and some hornwort trying to clear it up, but nope, but water parameters were good so I added four silver Molly males now my question is do I still feed them as normal because Molly's are algae eaters too a point and it's a giant tank of algae, so do I still need to feed them as regular or do I need to change something here, cuz personally tamales are doing absolutely amazing and I kind of grown fond of the green color almost it's just different than all the others cuz it's my only green one
  3. Okay y'all my tap water is pH 7 gh 300+ kh 40 A 0 ni 0 na 0, I'm raising guppies, Pilates and Molly's along with mystery snails. I've been wanting to raise my KH and crushed coral isn't available and I'm not comfortable using like alkaline buffers so I put some aragonite in a filter media bag and put it in some filters, it's raised one tank, my 55g to pH 7.8 -8 gh 300+ kh 120ish which is running a standard canister filter with 1 bag inside instead of carbon pellets, will the aragonite eventually stop or is it just going to keep on raising the pH on up and up
  4. Okay y'all what did I collect, Southern Illinois, backyard Creek, water is about 50ish 1 day after rain at 3am, there's an American bullfrog and a southern green frog living in the deepest part of the creek along with wild minnows and pest snails where these were collected, what are they, cuz I have an idea what they are but I'm not for sure
  5. Hey y'all I got these Malaysian trumpets in today put them in a quarantine tank 10 gallon ph7.2 gh 300+ kh 80-100ish A,0 NI,0 NA,20-30 temp 82ish, with the medtrio, (there a ebay from Florida and look like pond raised, so zero trust given) but my question is, do they "require" a substrate because they've pushed up my filter and stuff, and there trying to hide under anything they can and I'm just wondering is it okay to keep them in a bare bottom med tank for the week or should I add some kind of substrate
  6. Hello! My name is Kenneth, I've been in love with fish since I was young and now since I'm living alone I can start to do a fish keeping! I have set up a 10-Gallon Community Tank 4 days ago and Planning to get another 30-Gallon Community Tank maybe in a couple of months. I am planning to use my 10 Gallon as a Quarantine Tank or Shrimp Tank because shrimps are cute 😁😁 I joined the forum to learn as much as I can about Fish Keeping and any input that you give will be noted by me! (because sometimes, I'm forgetful.). My current 10-Gallon Setup have Bio Wheel PENGUIN 100 by MARINELAND and TOPFIN H100 Heater. I'm still saving up to get lighting and a hood or a lid. Nice to meet you all!
  7. I'm a relatively novice aquarium hobbyist, and I need some advice on this issue. I recently made a small cotton bag for some filter media out of an old black T-Shirt. Everything was fine until, about 5 or so days later, it started turning the water grey. By the time I figured out what was causing the problem, the aquarium water had turned completely black (or very, very dark grey). There are currently no fish in the tank; it's a new, planted 10 gallon that was getting ready for a betta. I'm prepared to do a 90% water change, which will hopefully clear up the water, but I don't know if I should be concerned about toxins or harmful chemicals in the dye. I was planning on getting a betta this week, but now am worried that it might not be safe. What would people recommend I do? The tank was all ready to go (seemed to be cycled, plants growing, water parameters in the clear, etc.) up until these past few days. Thank you in advance for any help or advise you might give.
  8. I am so excited to be here. about a year ago I lept back into the aquarium hobby with both feet. As a kid I won a goldfish at the fair... and she lived for 12+ years in my 10 gal tank. At the time my mom thought I was neglecting Goldie, but now that I've learned more about the hobby, I'm betting I did JUST FINE. Sometimes procrastination is a good thing. Anyhoo, I was given a betta last summer when a friend from work moved onto another job. Instead of keeping it on my desk like she did, I brought it home for my daughter. Since she's a teenager, and into anything social justice related, the one gal tank was a NO GO. LOL. So, he quickly moved on up to a 20 Long. Within 6 weeks or so we had two 20 gal tanks, a 10gal, plus the one gal for fry brought home from petsmart... as well as a new to me 10gal for my desk at work. LOL. Anyway.. I'll take some pics of the tanks in the comments below. 🙂 they are a work in progress. tee hee. My big aquarium dream? Setting up a minimum of a 55gal, and making it an amazon biotope. specifically for the Violet Corydoras.. It'll be a Jamari River clearwater (floodwater- clearwater) setup... and I'm hoping to have it be a breeding project too.. so I'm trying to figure out the best species for it. Luckily I found a great Journal article (http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/1676-0611-bn-2019-0803) with details of other fish in the areas, as well as collection locations.. My goal is to try to be as faithful as possible, to the biotope, but within my aquarium size & budget, and what is currently available for fish. If you've created a similar biotope, or have visited the area I'd love any insights you might have for me! 🥰 I created pinterest board: https://pin.it/36rJixl if you'd like to follow my planning process.
