About Me

  1. I have been seasoning my 3.5gallon for a little while now, and tonight I was stopped to look at it for a second. I'm pretty sure I saw Cyclops and planaria in the tank. I didn't put them there on purpose. Where could they have come from?
  2. Can anyone help me identify this brown, broken-open capsule I have recently found on the decoration of my fish tank (20 gal, planted). All the fish seem fine (4 - female bettas, 10 - leopard danios, 3 - cardinal tetras, 1 - large mystery snail, 3 - amano shrimp, 3 - (small) rams horn snails), but I did recently have some issues with algae/clouding of the water (GH = 80 ppm, KH = 120 ppm, TDS = 756, pH 7.5, NO2 = ~0, NO3 = ~0). This seems to be under control after water changes and cleaning of the substrate. I have not noticed anything out of the usual in the tank. But this is definitely not part of the original decoration. Ideas? Is this something to be concerned about?
  3. Okay y'all what did I collect, Southern Illinois, backyard Creek, water is about 50ish 1 day after rain at 3am, there's an American bullfrog and a southern green frog living in the deepest part of the creek along with wild minnows and pest snails where these were collected, what are they, cuz I have an idea what they are but I'm not for sure
  4. We didn't see the differences when we picked him up, he was all alone in a tank by himself in the corner, as were two others, so we foolishly "rescued" all three. And when we got him home and got a real good look, we didn't think he'd make it through the night. He seemed smudged and his eyes were sunk in! But he did, then a week, then a month, and more. He's doing well with our other "rescued" false jullii now regrowing their barbels in a quarantine tank. He's active, but not as strong yet, and has remained smaller. Anyone know what he is? I've looked at pictures online of different corydoras but haven't yet found something that seems to match all three of his "racoon" mask, the large bluish dots near the tail fin along with his dark dorsal. And that's ignoring his odd little eyes. Someday we'd like him to have his own kind to swim with, if we knew what to look for. Much appreciated if anyone has suggestions.
