Please please help me you brilliant all knowing fish experts. I set up my new tank 4 months ago. I knew nothing about "cycling" your tank. That was the first and only time my eater has been clear. I have watched numerous videos and read multiple articles what a tank requires and my water is still cloudy. I have used multiple different products (not all at the same time) to get the water in my tank happy. I've even let it be for a month to see if that would cause a water correction. I have a mechanical filter with floss filter, the round ceramic filters, charcoal filters. I've allowed for the filter to get gross to help the cycle....... I test everyday because I am afraid for my fish's health and wellbeing because my water is constantly cloudy. All of the tests have been in the normal parameters except I have never seen a change in the nitrate level. My fish eats like a champ and appears healthy. I do not overfeeding. I feed Goomba 1 pellet at a time so that's not an issue. I am at my wits end. I want to enjoy a clear beautiful tank were I can see my Goomba swimming around happily. I feel I have tried everything. Since I’ve been dropping comments about the 75 gallon redo and encouraged to post a journal link in my sig, but this is not that! 😆 I’ll get to that when it’s more than just an ugly mess needing a redo and a plan. To keep in the spirit of sharing, though, this is currently my next to favorite tank. Arguably the best looking right now. In February this year, I bought a “new in box” second hand, 6 G Aqueon cube. Bought one of their “planted tank” lights to go with it since I already had one on another cube that was a complete, used, starter kit (tank, light, filter), and those plants were growing well, so why not continue the same and they would match with pretty minimal expense. I set it up with a nice chunk of petrified wood I got from another hobbyist (one of my favorite rocks I’ve ever had). It got a couple tiny, baby, dwarf red lilies - front left (Nymphea lotus ‘Zenkeri’) which I knew I would have to remove eventually. A handful of Alternanthera reineckeii ‘Roseafolia’ - back left, a single sword back right (Echinodorus barthii x E. schlueteri’Red Flame’), a trio of Cryptocoryne pontederifolia in front of the sword, and some Pogostemon helferi front right. It also got a trio of Bucephalandra ‘Brownie Ghost’ glued to the black lava rock, and a single Anubias nana ‘Petite Pinto’ glued to the petrified wood. -
Hey y’all so I’m in college in an apartment the max was 6 gallons and I have a water box rimless. It has a twin star series s light and a fluval aqua clear filter. Currently I have a juvenile black orchid betta in the tank that is it, and it is heavily planted. My question and let me repeat this I’m fine with a species only betta tank. But my question is there something I can put with my betta that won’t overstock the tank and can grow to max size in the tank and also clean up the excess food that he does not eat. thx stephen -
Just got a 6 gallon cube aquarium for my office at work. It’s going to be planted and I’m in serious need of stocking ideas… The only things I’m not interested in are bettas and pea puffers (I love them but would prefer them in my home aquariums)

So, I recently bought a 6 gallon cube, and I'm liking the idea of turning it into a small biome for a single betta to love and thrive. I know Java ferns are native to Asia, but what other plants would be ideal for me to put in. The tank is not that big, but I'd like to heavily plant it for the little guy. My plan is to use a Co-op sponge filter for filtration, planted tank substrate, a preset heater, and a planted tank light. What plants other than Java ferns would fit the Asian theme?- 10 replies

Starting this thread to journal my tanks. Currently I have: 2.5 gallon, well planted with ember tetras and red cherry shrimp 6 gallon with African dwarf frogs, a mystery snail and ember tetras with some new plants 8 gallon planted column tank in progress, current home to 1 female betta 29 gallon community tank, growing number of plants with a male betta, black neon tetras, Otto cats, a bristlenose pleco and baby guppies. -
I have a 20gal long divided into 3 sections with a nano sponge filter in each section. I plan on putting a betta splendens into the first 6.6gal section, which is planted and contains a sizable pice of driftwood. Would it be too crowded to put 5 Pygmy Corys into the same section? -
my fluval edge journal i bought a used fluval edge that had a cracked top, it sat in storage for close to a year before i had a hurst of boredom/inspiration and decided to scape it at 2am one night when i couldn’t sleep. i could only use the hardscape materials and plants i already had on hand. i snapped these photos an hour or so after setting it up: the next morning: i had it sitting on my nightstand for 5ish months before i got bored and decided to redo it. i wanted something super low maintenance and this tank was just more work than i wanted to deal with in terms of keeping it looking pristine. i ordered 3 pieces of malasyian driftwood (at random) online and the 3 pieces that came in fit perfectly in the tank so naturally, i did another late night scape test fitting the wood: scape and first full up: after a few days: i added some emersed plants, i bought it as creeping jenny but it looks more like pennywort now that its grown in. you can see the little amount i started with next to the wood piece on the left: a couple weeks later and the pennywort is starting to flourish: another couple weeks later, the riccia has attached itself to the wood and is growing like a moss now: the fish are growing, i put them in as tiny juvies initially: a month later and the pennywort has taken off. i am doing bare minimum ferts (easy green once every couple weeks): taken a couple days later: the original shrimp from the first scape are still in here: and finally, the current state of the tank: its very overgrown and looks more like a pond but i personally love it. it feels like a little slice of nature right on my nightstand and it is so low maintenance i barely do anything. if you’re interested in the specs it is: •fluval edge 6g without the top •no heater • nano sponge filter for water movement • ferts every few weeks when i remember • water change every 1-2 months and top offs with either distilled or water from my goldfish tank weekly/bi-weekly depending on need • stocking: galaxy ricefish, pumpkin shrimp, cpo, lots of snails •fluval stratum mixed with fluorite as the substrate id love to hear your thoughts and suggestions !- 16 replies
