  1. Can I get help identifying this plant please? I bought a bunch of like 6 or 8 from the LFS when I first set up this tank, and cannot remember what they were marked as. I think the rest got shaded out but these two are strong and got put in a good spot. The leaves have a little bit of red on the underside.
  2. My shrimp love hornwort, soon you will have a nice forest for yours. If yours grows like mine eventually you'll be pulling out extra
  3. If you're still having hydra issues, I've had success just putting a little hydrogen peroxide on a sponge and wiping them off the glass. A small amount of h2o2 won't hurt anything else in the tank, it can even help a little. It's the sequel to water after all 😜
  4. That's scary, glad you're ok. Depending what's in your tank and where it is situated, it might be fine sitting there. As flumpweesel said, if it gets any natural light the plants might surprise you
  5. Seems like a good variety. Interestingly, I have some betta formula fluval bug bite flakes, and my white clouds are happy to nibble on them. I believe they also make a general formula bug bite flake, though the ingredients are very similar.
  6. Guess I'll throw in my cherry shrimp tank. Also has an assassin snail and some mini ramshorns, and daphnea. No vertebrates allowed 😁
  7. Here's my 29 gallon. First planted tank. Changed back to a plain background to hopefully meet guidelines. Hornwort, duck weed, anubius, dwarf sag, micro sword, crypt lucens, crypt wendtii red, crypt tropica. Some hydrocotyle tripartita. Little bit of java fern and moss. Probably a couple plants I'm forgetting. Real rocks and sticks. Sponge filter back right. Currently has 8 white clouds minnows and a decent group of cherry shrimp. Pics of the full tank, a little closer shot of fish in the middle area, and a nice shrimp on a rock.
  8. Very cool looking, love those snouts. They have a nice pattern too
  9. It's a jungle in there. 😁 Looks great, but I understand why you might want a bit of a trim
  10. It seems some sort of balance has been achieved in the eternal war between Shelly the assassin and the tiny ramshorns. Shelly keeps trucking, and I occasionally still see some little snails, but never a ton.
  11. So I've been looking into hillstream loaches and the two options that seem to be available to me are: the spotted borneo sucker (Gastromyzon punctulatus) Or the butterfly hillstream loach (Beaufortia kweichowensis). I think the butterflies are more commonly kept but get a bit bigger. The Borneo suckers stay smaller but are potentially more scrappy according to some sources. I'd get a trio for my mature planted 29 gallon with white clouds and cherry shrimp. Temps range seasonally from 64-76F. I would likely modify my airline to give them a spot with more flow. Any thoughts on what might be best? Looks wise I like them both, I just want the healthiest/most peaceful option.
  12. I've been thinking about hill stream loaches as well, good luck, I look forward to seeing how it goes.
  13. I agree, attach some anubius to rocks or wood. They are tough plants
  14. Yea pearl danios are pearly and I think more similar to zebra danios in size/behavior. As in zooming around. CPDs are dark and spotted orange, a little smaller and more shy, preferring lots of cover. They're also known as galaxy rasbora, which might help you differentiate when searching.
  15. You can definitely scavenge wood, just do a good clean with boiling water, and let it sun bake dry. I don't have that big of a tank but between my 29 gallon and 25 gallon the rocks and wood are all scavenged.
  16. My favorites/things that grow for me: Dwarf sag and micro sword. Hornwort. Duckweed. Pretty much any anubius. Crypt lucens. Crypt wendtii or tropica when they are established (Mine melted but they're coming back)
  17. I'll put in a vote for white cloud mountain minnows since I have recent experience with them. Peaceful, small, interactive, nice colors, inexpensive. Just don't get them too hot. They'd be good with the pandas. If you want a centerpiece a honey gourami could be nice.
  18. The tree has landed. I think it makes that transition in the back more natural
  19. I improved the floating tree with some moss "roots". The stark white of the shell it's attached to was bothering me.
  20. Idk if anyone has suggested it but "no planaria" took out my planaria problem. Even if you have a different kind of worm, it should theoretically still work. It seemed to melt a couple of my crypts, although that could have been coincidence, and they are growing back. No other plants were hurt.
  21. Finally took a video of the tank. Shortly after feeding, hence the bits in the water.
  22. Full tank shot update. Everything doing pretty well.
  23. A bit of trimming and redecorating. The hornwort corner was getting out of control. Moved some rocks and anubius a little and swapped in an Amazon sword. The white clouds continue buzzing along.
