  1. Looking better already. I need to work more on the jar. I'm considering adding a little sand for a two texture bottom. And possibly some pearl weed, but I'm worried it will take over completely.
  2. I started both of these a while ago, but due to life happening, I ended up leaving them at a former residence unattended for longer than I would have liked. Water levels were pretty low when I recovered them. The java fern and hornwort died, but the anubius all hung on great, and there's a big wild clump of moss now. And the best news, and least two of the pink ramshorns in the bowl made it, and a handful of bladder snails in the jar did as well. Hopefully with regular care they will thrive. Both bowl and jar need some more cleanup and water top up, but I'm happy to have them again.
  3. Well, it partially sank after a day and no longer kept duckweed out, so the quest continues
  4. I cut the top off a single serve cereal cup. Made sure it was smooth and washed off any dust. My thinking is; if it's safe to eat out of for humans, it should be safe to float. I'd hope honey bunches of oats doesn't have toxins in their plastic cereal cups. Edit: It is number 5 plastic which from what I researched seems aquarium safe
  5. I've seen people create little portals on the surface of their aquarium to prevent surface plants from growing in a certain area. I'm considering using a piece of styrofoam to do this in my tank. Does that seem ok? Is styrofoam a safe material for this or should I use something else
  6. The right piece of hornwort with some shrimp and red and/or blue ramshorn snails would be pretty Christmas tree like
  7. I'd say get more tiger barbs for the current tank if you have space. They need a decent sized school to keep themselves busy.
  8. Well, after a minor re-scape of both tanks I have mostly been making small adjustments, moving a plant or rock here or there. I'm pretty happy with everything at the moment. Watching my crypts grow. My goby seems to be doing well. She has made a little sleeping burrow under the biggest rock in the tank, and if I watch at the right time I can see her go to bed in the evening. During the day she is pretty outgoing and entertaining to watch. Really enjoying the enlarged school of white clouds. 8 standards and 7 gold. Hoping a baby or two emerges eventually. Sometimes I think I see one but it turns out to be a shrimp just hanging with the fish. The shrimp only tank churns along. I must admit I spend most of my time looking at the tank with fish. Long term plans include a possible 55 gallon next year sometime. My house mate has been falling back in love with the hobby after being out of it for a while. I've also been toying with the idea of changing my lights. My lights have two tubes, and I'm thinking about removing one and then increasing the time it stays on. (Currently on 8.5 hours). More time to enjoy the fish, but Idk how the plants would respond. I don't want to ruin everything. I'll tag @Guppysnail who always seems to have something cool going on
  9. I wasn't quite happy with how the tank looked so I re-updated it. White clouds and goby all seem to be doing well. Have seen some definite mating behavior from the minnows, including some mating embraces. Not actively trying to raise babies but I'll hold out hope some make it. Also got a video of goby going to town munching on the algae covered side wall.
  10. I recently got some golds to go with my regulars and they all intermingle just fine. They seem to appreciate the company. There was a decent amount of sparring between males as they figured out the hierarchy, but no actual violence.
  11. I noticed a single one of the gold males has yellow tips on his red fins, unlike everyone else's white tips. He also has a nice pink sheen. Seen here in the back flaring at a white tip gold male.
  12. Did some work updating this tank a little. Also added 7 gold white clouds to my 8 standard white clouds. I have heard Cory say having a bigger school helps bring out more natural behavior in schooling fish, and that certainly seems to be the case. There is a lot more flaring and sparring going on. Mostly fins out shimmying with an occasional body check. From what I understand that's pretty normal. I've only had them since Monday morning, so things might settle down a little. Also goby is still doing good. Pic and video. Does this seem like typical behavior? @WhitecloudDynasty
  13. I recently got a stiphodon ornatus and love it. Based on the info I found I think mine is female, and yours looks the same (striped). Either way gorgeous fish
