  1. Cleaning and minor redecorating. White clouds seem to be doing well. They continue to fill out physically and explore the tank. They are definitely not scared of me, they associated me with food pretty quickly I think. I am still terrible at getting pics of them though. 😅 Shrimp are much more cooperative
  2. They looked pretty normal, just skinny. I wouldn't say sunken bellies. They weren't eating as boldly as the others. Didn't seem as interested in food.
  3. Unfortunately reclusive minnow passed away. He was skinny and a little snub nosed, so I suspect he had some genetic issue. I tested my water. No ammonia or nitrite, barely any nitrate. No change there. The other 8 fish are eating and swimming together, gaining size and color. They all look "normal". I'm guessing I may have 3 or 4 males out of the 8. I'll try to get better pics of everyone soon.
  4. They look like some kind of eggs. What critters do you know of in the tank?
  5. I noticed my "tree" stick had collected a bunch of ugly beardish algae, so I pulled it out to clean. I ended up putting a different stick in a different spot to replace it. I think it helps define more of a two island look and hide the filter more. I also need to scrape some algae along the front bottom; the hardest place to reach since micro sword thinks it's a great place to grow. Some crypts being temperamental but I think they will make a comeback.
  6. Good luck, look forward to seeing it. They are cute little fish. The white rim looks nice
  7. One of the fish decided to scare me today by hiding for a good several minutes. Even during dinner, until after I checked the whole tank (I thought) 3 times, didn't see anything on the filter, had just about lost hope. Then saw one of the 8 present go into hornwort corner, and lazily following it back out, practically yawning, was number 9. Dang fish.
  8. Haven't updated this tank in a while. I moved my sword plants forward a bit. They are doing ok but not amazing. The hornwort on the other hand is a full on jungle, which the shrimp seem to enjoy. I also like the feature "tree" I made with anubius and moss growing on it. I need to actually try selling some shrimp soon. They seem to be breeding well in here.
  9. Love native fish. Do you know the exact species?
  10. Unfortunately the skinniest/smallest white cloud didn't make it. But the other 9 all seem to be putting on size and color. They are fun to watch. Also cherry shrimp still chilling.
  11. My camera decided to focus on the one fish in back instead of the 8 in front. Fish are harder to photo than shrimp 😅 Anyway the white cloud seem to be doing well, hanging out together and occasionally breaking off to explore. Coloring up. Saw some starting to get red lipstick so I take that as a good sign? From what I understand that is a male thing. They all seem to be acting normally.
  12. Been a while since I updated. Bad news and good news. Bad news, both my mystery snails died. 😓 .I did get them from petco, and I suppose I have no way of knowing how old they were. I'd like to think they had a nice retirement? However other bad news; I also found planaria in my tank. Idk if they contributed to the snail deaths. I haven't seen many if any baby shrimp in that tank. (Also my beautiful crypt melted, but I'm hopeful it will return. I added root tabs). Good news: Since the snails passed, I decided to medicate the tank with "no planaria" med. I think it has worked, though I'm keeping an eye out. One suggestion I have when using it is to dissolve the dose of powder in a cup of (chlorine free) water you are planning to add to the tank, and then pour it in. Otherwise it clumps a little and you have to mix it up, but it dissolves quickly. Also the directions on the packet are for 50 liters, which is about 13 gallons. So do appropriate math. My shrimp didn't seem to to be affected at all. I've heard the meds stay in the water for a while. So no more snails for a while. If I do in the future I'll get them from a better place hopefully. That being said I finally decided it was time to get some fish. After much deliberation, I got 10 white cloud mountain minnows. They're very pretty. I remember seeing them in a book my dad got me as a kid and wanting them. Lucky for me they turned out to be a recommended easy fish. I think they will fit in well. Lots of plants and a subtropical temp. They don't seem interested in the shrimp and the shrimp don't seem to care. Hopefully that continues. No great pics yet but hopefully I'll get some. They are not shy but not too hyper either.
  13. I'm aware, unfortunately both my snails already passed 😓 Idk if the planaria had anything to do with it. All my other parameters were good it seemed.
  14. I recently encountered planaria in one of my tanks as well. I bought some "no planaria" meds and just dosed this weekend. Shrimp were completely unaffected. I'm keeping an eye out for worms. I saw a couple when I first dosed crawling around but it's hard to tell if they were dying. It's a highly rated product so my hopes are I can control them. I'm sorry you're having problems with them.
  15. I would say leave the light off. My tank lost power for a couple days and was fine. Multiple days of continuous light sounds like an algae bomb waiting to happen.
  16. I've been doing much fish deliberation and think I'm finally ready to choose between two. Gold medaka rice fish Or Rummynose Rasbora aka Sawbwa barb Any votes? (My tank ranges from 64F in winter to 76F in summer)
  17. One of my darkest red shrimp, on a rather green rock. With some tiny tiny "friends"
  18. My lotus seems to be going into hibernation (or just dying) but the acrylic is cleaner at least. And shrimps are all over
  19. My thought was also least killi fish or something similar, though I'm no expert
  20. Adjusted lights trying to figure out some algae issues. Ramshorns coming soon hopefully. Also going to look for white clouds or endlers/guppies soon
  21. Adjusted lights on both tanks today to see if that helps algae. Also have baby ramshorns that will be transferred soon hopefully. Otherwise looking ok. Lotus has seemingly stopped trying to race to the surface and is sending out some lower leaves.
  22. I haven't added any fish yet, but I'm considering doing something similar. My lfs had some eye catching white moscow guppies, but I wasn't ready to get anything at the time. Do your males get along?
  23. Just an update. All seems to be going well. Bit of algae that seems to be getting under control. Also ramshorns climbing in their bowl, training to help with the algae 😁
  24. Which cory would do better in an unheated set up? My water temps go from about 63/64 F on the coldest winter days to maybe 76/77 F on the hottest summer days. Its a planted 29 gallon tank. Would pandas or paleatus cories both be reasonable choices or would one be better. Or is neither appropriate.
