  1. HH Morant I really like your cabinet that holds your new tank. Did you build it?
  2. I've been impressed with Easygreen, so I haven't tried that brand.
  3. I was fortunate enough to find a couple of double decker ferret cages on fb marketplace. I set them up outside of two different windows of my house and built access bridges to each of them. Now my cat can enjoy nature safely. She still hunts flies and spiders in the house. I've made it easier for reach them by hanging shelves high on the walls and building ladders for her to access them. She's so helpful and loves to watch the fish with me.
  4. I have used the Repashy Spawn nd Grow for fry. I prepare the gel the way the package says to and I've also just added the food to the aquarium water after grinding it between my fingers. I swish it around in the water so it doesn't all float. The fry eat it this way and I haven't seen any fry turn it down so far (guppy, danio, corydoras)
  5. Have fun!!!! It's so amazing to look into the tank and see new life.
  6. @Minanora I understand about the fry arriving before you feel ready for them. I had my first guppy patio pond last summer and I have so many females that I brought into the house as pregnant females. Oh my! They were all in a 30 gallon for awhile and I have now split them up by gender, but the fry just keep coming. Right now I have 176 in a 10 gallon tank. I need an emoji for "guppies coming out of my ears". LOL!🤣 Setting up new tanks to handle the grow out.
  7. @PineSong When you use a matten filter to separate the aquarium, do you need to have a sponge filter in each compartment?
  8. I'm really enjoying this thread. Thanks for sharing your info, guys! 😃
  9. Zayacklepga, I don't match the water temp when I do a small water change (20 or 25%). Did you change more water than that? Of course my tank is deep, so they may not feel the temp change as much.... it's 24 inches deep.
  10. In my 90 gallon, I have both pepper corys and orange laser corys. They keep to their own species. Sometimes they are near the other, but return to those that look like themselves.
  11. Love your choices with the plants. So glad that you're enjoying your slice of nature.😀
  12. I find this is true, Yanni. They like to spawn after a "rain" (water added or water change). I keep a bucket of water at room temp to add, just for this purpose. Danios and guppies are good tank mates for Cory's also. :-)
  13. I have really enjoyed watching the videos that you and Dean create while doing this build! I know it would be much faster for you to just focus on what you're building, but you take the time to explain the how and why to us! Thank you, so much! 😀
  14. Beautiful! My Cory's are plump and active also. Breakfast this morning consisted of brined shrimp and bloodworms. I raise the Corydoras Paleatus. The adults are about 5 years old now. They're in a 90 gallon community tank.
  15. Yes, the lily plants are very helpful for covering the surface and are also beautiful when they bloom.
  16. @ChemBob I love the project! The whole family will find joy here! I agree on the book choice, it's the one I am using for my summer guppy pond. Next year I will put the pvc tube for draining and air stone like Cory showed in his youtube video. My tank is a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. Same foot print as your tank, but half as tall. So much fun! I also agree with your review of the solar fountain. I bought a similar one and it's ok, but wouldn't choose it again. 🙂
  17. Welcome! I've enjoyed your build pics and descriptions. 🙂
  18. @Isaac M Thank you. I used to have 15 adults but they have been slowly passing away which is why I decided to collect eggs from them. During spawning they get a reddish stripe underneath the black stripe. It's difficult to capture with my phone. Most of my Corydoras have a dark stripe the length of their bodies and three large stripes that rise out of it. The females have white tummies. The original fish purchase was 6 juveniles from The Wet Spot in Portland, OR.

The original fish purchase was 6 juveniles from The Wet Spot in Portland, OR. Here's one of the juveniles that hatched in the community tank and survived. She (I think) is about an inch long now. Her stripe is interrupted, but she's a healthy girl.
  20. @Isaac M Here's a couple of pics of one of my females. The other one is busy cleaning plants for her eggs. She is fairly old... over 5 years old now.
  21. OH, How fun is that? VERY FUN!!! That little one is so cute! I love your tank, btw! My females are camera shy. The males will come out and wink at me. LOL!
  22. @Isaac M, @ChemBobHere are a couple of my males. They are in different tanks and you can see the color of the water in the tank where the spawning occurs has more tannins in it. The other tank is planted as well, but has a different type of wood. Less staining of the water, I guess.
