  1. late to this discussion, but to cap the room, you can frame out the cap, and again use rigid foam insulation sheets for the roof. they work well at holding in heat. example, yesterday while it was -8 outside i needed to go somewhere, so out to the detached garage i went. hopped in the car, car said it was +19 in the garage. no heat in there, just insulated walls and foam board ceiling.
  2. fish store in circle pines has a large selection of rocks, and driftwood, and spiderwood, but beyond that id not say aquascaping is their thing.
  3. genetics, and lack of minerals lead to crooked spines.
  4. new plants in a pot will not cause an ammonia spike. as for them staying in the pot, they will be just fine in the pot until you get around to planting them. just get them in water.
  5. my goal this year is to learn to play guitar. my hands and wrists are all messed up, so i dont expect miracles, but hope to be able to entertain myself.
  6. cant go wrong with plants in aquarium. they are natures aquarium filters. id opt for an anubia with goldfish. im sure others would work, but anubia can be attached to objects, and the leaves are fairly tough.
  7. as for moving with a net, yes they will sort of get into the net like velcro. though if you place it back in the water and gently shake it, they come right out.
  8. 2 weeks should kill off any nasty's. id give it a good wipe out with warm water, and white vinegar. i personally dont use bleach on anything in, or near my aquariums.
  9. i agree, light is on too long. try 6 or 7 hours. less likely to grow green algae on the plants leaves that way.
  10. other fish could certainly eat the corpse, but doubtful they did it in an hour. id bet he got himself wedged in somewhere out of sight. many animals will try and hide when sick or dying.
  11. you could remove the carbon, or just wait a day or two after putting in new carbon then fertilize. carbon is only effective in removing things for a short while. after a day or two, it has absorbed all the bad things it can, and can not absorb more, be it toxins, or fertilizers. so, if you wait a day or two, just fertilize, as the carbon wont be able to absorb it. i myself am a carbon user, but honestly for normal day to day use, it doesnt do a whole lot for you, other than cost money. it is great for removing meds, and toxins from an aquarium after you have treated it. but for daily use, you are better off putting in a chunk of porus sponge in your filter that will grow beneficial bacteria on it.
  12. do smaller water changes, 25-30%. especially in a new tank that is getting established. a second water change can always be done tomorrow, but a big water change can cause its own set of problems. you will likely have some ammonia in your tank, its part of the process, and it will read as ammonia even though it has been treated with prime. watch the fish for any adverse reactions, but with the water being treated it is most likely youre reading what the prime actually has neutralized.
  13. i dont, but have in the past mixed live, and fake. your tank, your rules.
  14. yes, multiples of the others. more than likely some will die on you, and some will thrive.
  15. tetra has been a staple in the hobby for a very long time. good quality product.
  16. plant choices look okay, though i would probably just do 1 of them in a 29. sorry i dont type what i think, i meant only 1 amazon sword.
  17. if using carbon, the carbon will have absorbed all it can within a couple days. so wait 2 or 3 days after replacing the carbon, then fertilize.
  18. guppies are like a box of chocolates, ya never quite know what youll get. even pure strains throw some off colors now and then.🐟
  19. should have gotten a bigger shelf. you will for sure accumulate a ton more stuff!🤪
  20. api leafzone is a good iron supplement, but it lacks most everything else plants need. id suggest switching to something like easy green, or any other all in one type fertilizer to get more of the nutrients the plants needs. nothing wrong with leafzone, i still use it to supplement other ferts, but it really is not a good stand alone product.
  21. "ive always been crazy. its kept me from going insane." borrowed form a waylon jennings song.
  22. ive run HOB's for decades with guppies, and have never noticed any being sucked in. id have no problem doing so again.
