  1. tetra has been a staple in the hobby for a very long time. good quality product.
  2. plant choices look okay, though i would probably just do 1 of them in a 29. sorry i dont type what i think, i meant only 1 amazon sword.
  3. if using carbon, the carbon will have absorbed all it can within a couple days. so wait 2 or 3 days after replacing the carbon, then fertilize.
  4. guppies are like a box of chocolates, ya never quite know what youll get. even pure strains throw some off colors now and then.🐟
  5. should have gotten a bigger shelf. you will for sure accumulate a ton more stuff!🤪
  6. api leafzone is a good iron supplement, but it lacks most everything else plants need. id suggest switching to something like easy green, or any other all in one type fertilizer to get more of the nutrients the plants needs. nothing wrong with leafzone, i still use it to supplement other ferts, but it really is not a good stand alone product.
  7. "ive always been crazy. its kept me from going insane." borrowed form a waylon jennings song.
  8. ive run HOB's for decades with guppies, and have never noticed any being sucked in. id have no problem doing so again.
  9. looks like an ok mix. when you are ready for fish, add 1 type, give it a few days or a week, then add another, repeat. adding a small number of fish at a time lets your tanks bacteria colony adjust to the new bioload without being overwhelmed.
  10. females will generally have up to 4 sets of fry per breeding (number can vary). guppies are fun to watch, no doubt about it. once you get the population balanced, youll be happy with them.
  11. there's a few ways to go. if you want tons of babies ( which you will likely get no matter what), you can separate the pregnant females out to give birth. this will reduce predation of the babies. you can also just leave them all in a tank together, and this will reduce the number of babies that reach maturity via predation. in reality, either way, you will have a herd of guppies in no time. almost always a given if you have both male, and female guppy's.
  12. salt will probably do a nice job on a mild case of fin rot like your guppy has.
  13. im no expert, but have had bbs live in the hatchery for at least 24hrs after hatching. i feed 2 or 3 times out of the hatchery, then ill freeze the rest in mini silicone ice cube trays. will get many feedings out of the frozen cubes of bbs.
  14. agree, stop fertilizing until you get the numbers down. i would just continue doing your normal water changes, and monitor water quality. once things are under control, try 1 pump of easy green a week. if one or two particular plants show signs they are not getting enough nutrients, then you can put in a root tab by that plant. with so many root tabs, and essentially double dosing easy green, it will just take some time for it to balance back out. IMO large water changes, especially in smaller tanks can cause as many problems as what you are trying to solve. if the fish arent distressed, dont do big water changes. 25-30% is plenty. if its not enough, do 25-30 every few days vs one large change.
  15. agree with reducing the lighting. BBA really grows with lots of light.
  16. if you want to skip the math, you can generally google a given tank size say 20x12x24 inches = how many gallons.
  17. the plantlets can be tied with string to objects, or a drop or two of super glue gel then press the roots into the glue.
