  1. change tampa bay bucs to the florida flounders, but it'd probably flop!
  2. i would suggest putting the new filter in for a few days to a week with the other filter still running before removing it. that way the new filter gets a chance to colonize bacteria.
  3. of all the pike species that one seems like the one for an aquarium due to max size of about 12". ive seen northern pike, and muskie kept. both northerns and muskie get too large for most, also muskie are very skittish in an aquarium. with no experience seeing them, hard to say what the red fins behavior in a tank will be. good luck, looks interesting.
  4. mts meetings will soon be available.
  5. the easy green will go anywhere thats wet in the tank, but it is fairly diluted in the water. root tabs really target a small area of the substrate, giving the plants its near a much better chance of getting those nutrients.
  6. take some isopropyl alcohol and mix 50/50 or so with water. wet a rag with it, and wipe off the tank. the alcohol will remove the waxes and petroleum products from the polishes. rinse tank very well after.
  7. if the temp is okay, it is almost certainly something in the water. did you use any kind of water treatment? for the future, i would only change 25-30% of the water at one time. if you feel the need to do more, do 25%, then a few days later do another water change of 25%. good things seldom come from large water changes.
  8. 2 or 3 more females, or 1-2 less males.
  9. i honestly couldnt tell you what fertilizer. just have some nutrients in the water, and crank the lights. lots of light is the prime grower of BBA, but it has to have some nutrients to go with it.
  10. sometimes you just need to step away. nothing wrong with that, we all do it in our own way.
  11. lots of hours of high intensity light, and a splash of fertilizer.
  12. good thing is, if you look around you can usually find used 10 gal tanks for free. for lights, id head to the local homedepot/lowes/menards, and look at cheap led shop lights.
  13. as long as the ends are supported, and it is flat, no worries.
  14. my own thoughts on pine etc not harming anything in lakes and rivers vs an aquarium is that there is such a vast quantity of water in a lake/river vs an aquarium so that acids from sap are not diluted in an aquarium.
  15. to me, pandas seem to be the cory that uses the most of a tank. ive had them that just loved to swim loops through a bubble wall.
  16. most goldfish do fine somewhere between freezing temps, and low 80's. they are a cool water fish.
  17. welcome to the forum. we are getting to have a decent sized mn contingent here.
  18. welcome to the forum. tanks look good.
  19. oh yeah, german shepherds can be quite spendy. i like they listed mature weights, and see how they've changed over the years due to breeding. 60-85#. its rare to find a male shep now days that wont break 100#, even my female is 90, and she is not fat.
  20. anubia roots, do like to be rooted in substrate. it is normal. i have bunches of them glued on logs, and the roots will go a long ways to get in the substrate.
  21. most heaters are not super reliable. i personally dont trust them to not cook fish.
