  1. Hey guys!!! Looking for some help! My betta seems to have some white stuff on her tail fin and it seems to be more clamped then usual. I just noticed this this morning. Here’s my water parameters: PH 8.2, Nitrate 0, Nitrites 0, Ammonia 0.25, KH was 14 drops and GH was 16 drops which is higher then the conversion chart on the test goes so those are at least higher then 200, water temp stays between 76-80 on a heater controller. The only thing I’ve done differently recently was use one banquet block for my mystery snails and add one squirt of easy green instead of the Aqueon fertilizer I was using. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I did what I could for picture but my betta does not like to stay still
  2. Thanks everyone for the replies. Everyone here is always so nice, it makes it a pleasure to post. I don’t mind having algae in my filter I just wanted to double check that it wasn’t going to cause problems.
  3. Sorry for another silly question. I have what appears to be brown algae growing in my filter. I assume this is just another level of filtration and I shouldn’t really be concerned but that I should double check. Do I need to clean this out of my filter? Do you even need to clean your filter? I know about rinsing out the filter media which I do but do you need to clean the actual filter housing?
  4. Thanks so much for your help guys ☺️
  5. Phew 😅 I was afraid he was hurting goldilocks. She’s was whipping him pretty hard and their wasn’t much left of her in her shell. Ok. I feel better now
  6. What are my snails doing!? The gold one is whipping back and fourth like it’s trying to get the blue one off!!
  7. Interesting, but no they are both roughly the same size
  8. I did look all around the outside of the tank. But my snail has emerged since then, so both snails are still accounted for!
  9. Interesting 🤔 must be a snail and personality thing then. Thanks for the input guys!
  10. Hey guys! Because you're all kind and helpful I'm posting yet again. Lol. I have, count 'em, two mystery snails. One is gold and one is blue. Gold one is super active, I find that little fellow all over the tank. The blue however I only see once in a while. First day it sort of burrowed itself in the substrate with the shell sticking out. Second day I saw it exploring the tank. Third day that sucker was GONE, I loved everywhere, even outside the tank, it was nowhere. Fourth day, hey there it is again! Fifth day it's gone again. So my question is, do mystery snails burrow in your experience? I've only had these guys a few days so I'm still getting use to them. Everywhere I see online some people say they don't, others say they have one that does. What are your thoughts and experiences?
  11. It’s in a Desk lamp and the bulb is only a few inches from the tank. But like I said I do plan on getting the flu all 3.0 just gotta save up a little first
  12. Thank you! I quite like my Spongbob theme was well. I joke and say I’m the female equivalent of a man-child. The tank does seem bigger then 10gal but I think it’s just because my plants are so small still. But I can attest from experience in setting it up and doing water changes that it is a 10gal.
  13. I have a heater in my tank hooked up to a heater controller so I’m not concerned about temp spikes so much. My grow light is on a timer but I think I’m going to adjust the times of when the light is on. I think possibly the tank is just getting blasted with light in the afternoon. Also I found a blog post on the aquarium co op site that was quite useful and I might have a nutrient deficiency in my tank. So I’ll also do adjustments with my fertilizer. As for the mystery snails I did my research before I got them. I wanted Bertie snails but no good options in my area and with how cold it is I didn’t feel comfortable having some shipped. But I’m fully prepared and willing to care for my mystery snails. But thank you very much for your input. It has been a great help ❤️
  14. My substrate is gravel with a thin layer of sand on top of esthetics. My grow light is just a full spectrum flood light from Menards that I already had that I was using for my house plants when I lived in a basement. I was planning on getting the Fluval 3.0 but it's a tad out of my price range at the moment. I believe my window is north facing. The algae doesn't bother me so much, just thought it was important to mention, like I said I added snails to help combat that issue. My java fern and anubias plant are from my 2.5 gal so I've had those for at least 6 months. The 10 gal however along with the other plants I've had since has only been going for a month and a half to two months. My dwarf baby tears seemed to be doing better when I had the light on for longer but that's when I got the algae bloom.
  15. Hello everyone!! Some help with my tank would be greatly appreciated! I have a 10 gal planted tank with one GloFish female betta and two mystery snails. I'm having issues with my plants. They are definitely not thriving. I have a Java fern that has never looked too good and is making lots of babies. I have an Anubias, not sure what kind, that one seems to be doing really well. I have dwarf grass that looks so so, one cluster looks great, the other clusters are hanging in there. My micro sword is also looking so, so. My drawf baby tears look kind of horrible, the very tops have green leaves but the bottoms look brown and gross. When I set the tank up I used Easy Green root tabs and every couple of days I dose the tank with Aqueon Plant food. I already had this and wanted to use it up before buying Easy Green. My tanks sits in front of my second story window so it will get light for the plants. I also have a full spectrum grow light that I run for about 4 hours a day. I was running the grow light for more like 6 hours for a few weeks and got an algae bloom. I have cleaned up as much algae as I could, cut the light back to 4 hours and added the two mystery snails. Is the plant food not adequate enough, am I using too much light, not enough light, any clues as to what I am doing wrong? I have attached some photos as well.
  16. Awesome! Thanks for all your help guys!
  17. That’s fine. As long as how the water is isn’t going to hurt my fish
  18. Hmmm. Very interesting. What would I need to do to Lower the ph then?
  19. I’ve had the 2.5 for maybe 5months? The 10gal for a week. The gravel is for aquariums, the package says it’s polymer coated and inert. So it’s not supposed to change water chemistry. But I will definitely try the cup idea and some experimenting. I guess for now I’ll have to be very diligent about my water changes and testing the water. Ooh thought just came to mind! Could it be the plant food that I’m using? Could that raise PH?
  20. In the 10 gal my substrate is a stone gravel that my plants are in topped with a course sand. Decorations are official spongebob aquarium decor. The 2.5 is just a fine sand.
  21. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. My tap water's PH is about 7.4 if I'm reading the colors correctly. But my aquariums are regularly reading at 8.4. Also I just purchased a GH and KH test and it's showing that my tap water is between 200-400ppm. Both tests took 14 drops to change color. Am I worrying about nothing or do I need to fix this? I should note that I have a betta in a 2.5 and set up a 10 gallon to move my betta to.
  22. Hey everyone! I just got the Finnex power filter pure-7 from the aquarium co op website. The filter seems to be working just fine, however it's quite loud. I've narrowed it down to the filter cover vibrating because when I take it off the noise goes away. Any suggestions to reduce the vibration?
  23. My dream aquarium product is a heater or heater controller where I can simulate day and night. Just like lights that can create a sun rise and sun set why not have a heater or heater controller that will do that? So that mid day the tank will be at it's warmest and at night it's at it's coldest but still stays within a preset range.
  24. I’m moving my betta from a 2.5gal to a 10gal. I realize the 10gal might be too big for my desk and might go to the dresser. That being said I would like to still use my 2.5gal. I’ve seen people make terrariums using twigs and dirt and stuff from local ponds or rivers and also the water too. Would this be a good idea to do with the 2.5gal? Or does anyone have any other ideas?
