Whatever my latest fish I’ve obtained is 🤣

Seriously. I become infatuated with a fish when they are new to me then the next new one eclipses them in interest and fascination.

My latest was a gift. German blue rams.FC282DFB-562E-430D-B09A-D7A0ADE7EE0D.jpeg.24294ba9d117c4b808c9a88adf36a071.jpegE67CD1A4-12E5-4C69-89BD-13D7AD4BC3FE.jpeg.2ae044a16477af65c933079bc201117f.jpeg

However my longfin lemon blue eyed plecos will always hold the most beautiful and interesting place in my heart.  7C92C541-6F10-49D3-9AEF-0E999DAB9F4B.jpeg.ce9e4c2aceeeb915f0b5e1333c073c70.jpeg3C2DE586-309C-4193-ABEE-8461451CD6CC.jpeg.2b4840c3a97a0834df5bbbc883c7f93e.jpeg56C7643E-1589-4D40-8C45-B90062D3292A.jpeg.405ab47700c8cfaef6e7ac1c3efac447.jpegA6A3EC15-7072-4D7D-9E38-7F7A5638B619.jpeg.04018279b7e805a1bbe9805172099156.jpeg

Then there are my Scarlet badis that I’m still figuring out.  This guy moved each piece of gravel one at a time. Rolled it like a ball with his nose until it was out of the way to excavate this nook for himself under the crypt. They are also beautiful.  E533ED5F-A76D-467C-A7AF-2CF73D511DA0.jpeg.a500e39e9378ba89e49e0333413b19da.jpeg

So you see what I mean. Each new one becomes the coolest fish EVER! 🤣

PS Don’t forget snails in the rad aquatics list 😉

I have a set of four favorite species for "hot" tropical temps, and another set of four favorites for "cold" temperate tanks. If I could focus on breeding just these eight species and nothing more, I'd be perfectly happy.

HOT

Discus, Rams, Cardinal Tetras, Zebra Plecos

COLD

Enneacanthus sp., Elassoma Gilberti, Rainbow Shiners, Candy Darters

I'm not sure as my favorite keeps changing. For a long time it was gold rams; such a lovely man made creature. But every time I watch my nannacara anomala I'm am surprise by his vast and interesting behavior. Very different and more complex than many other dwarf cichild's i've kept.

I'm kind of negative towards discus though I haven't kept them so that might change one day (they seem kind of boring). I strongly dislike all rainbows i've kept (I think they are boring and ugly); I really like my kubotai rasbora and pygmy cory - esp the pygmy. I'm bloody sick of my lemon blue-eye plecos (they breed like rabbit and they refuse to leave the aquarium. I guess that is it today - oh and this guy who just likes to look pretty now and then:

Most people seen to be focusing on aquarium fish (which is fine!) but it can be anything for example, coelacanths definitely top the charts for me!

Well, its not the coolest or most rad and individuals dont stand out, but Green Neon Tetras are my favorite, especially in schools of 12 or more.  I like how the groups diverge and come together.

I like the 3/4 inch size, and the flash of turquoise green as they swim about.

One dream aquarium would be astronomically large and filled with some neon or dwarf Indonesian (because billions of tiny fish would be awesome!)

We can talk abstractly about something we know little of - but it is easier (at least myself) to give a more complete answer on something i've actually observed first hand - since behavior pattern plays a role in my view of such.

I hope I don't get backlisted for this, but as well as being a fish keeper, I'm also an avid fisherman (mostly practice CPR, catch-photograph-release). One of my favorite fish is the California Sheephead, its a species of wrasse that inhabit coastal waters off Southern California, mostly in kelp forest but you can find them elsewhere at times. They have very distinct teeth which I can only describe as dog like teeth, which they use to eat mollusks and crustaceans, crabs, spiny lobsters, sea urchins etc. as well as soft bodied prey like squid and fish. Females are an orangish red while the males have a  distinctive black red black pattern, they can grow up to 3ft and upwards to 30lbs (though I've never seen one that big). Most interesting characteristic, they're protogynous, they are all born female, as they grow some females become more dominant and transform into males, developing the distinct male color pattern and also growing a nuchal hump. An awesome and interesting fish here in SoCal.

i like the prehistoric monsters, either sturgeon or gar, depending on the day.

About a year or two ago, they caught a huge sturgeon in the Fraser River in British Columbia.  I seem to recall it was 11 feet in length and almost 900 pounds. It gives some credibility to the theory that so-called Lake Monsters (like Nessie) could be huge sturgeon.  🙂

Still pao cf palustris mekong river puffers here. My first pao puffer bred, raised, and bred here. Their color and behavior changes are pretty amazing. These two gifs are the same puffer group around the same size.

It's always mollies for me. I've got some less common and more interesting fish, but nothing matches their curiosity and confidence. I especially love the way they pick at everything looking for food. Plus they can live in saltwater!

Great photo.  I kept mollies briefly as my fish in cycle choice.

You’re not the only one, but sometimes we need to be content with what we have and bide our time planning future fish rooms (providing we can afford them) How many tanks do you have btw?

Until then….:
