Cinnebuns
If you had no restrictions ethically or realistically and could keep any fish what would it be? I'm going with an angler fish.
xXInkedPhoenixX
Mine wouldn't be a fish, I'd keep a small colony of Coconut Octopus 2
Cinnebuns
Oh nice choice! Different jellyfish would be cool too. 1
Guppysnail
Mine is not fancy. I adore clownfish but have no saltwater interest.

Hobbit
Okay the octopi inspired me. Cuttlefish and mantis shrimp. That wouldn’t eat each other, of course. 4

Queen Willow
I'd get a Mola Mola. Easy question. 3
Cinnebuns
@Queen Willow I'm gonna have to look up more info on that one. Looks interesting.
PineSong
My first thought was Pajama Squid--but I think it would be hard for me to leave it in the tank and not want to cuddle it. So...I guess I'll play it safe and stick with a large tank of long-fin leopard danios and gold ring danios. Pretty to look at but not at risk of having their cheeks pinched or being snuggled to death. 2 1
xXInkedPhoenixX
It's so neat see so many Cephalopod fans when asked "what fish". Hehe! Octopi are my personal mascot at work, I have my chain mail Octopus "Durga" wherever I sit. She amuses me when things get stupid. 7

Jeff
I'm not into monster fish...and there's really no one fish that I'd love to have, in this situation. With that said, I'd go for a 1,000 gallon tank and just do it big with all community fish.
xXInkedPhoenixX
@Jeff I'm with you, that's why I love Coconut Octopus- they get max 6" stinkin cute.
lindabee53
I love the whole octopus thing - My Octopus Teacher comes to mind - and dolphins, which aren't fish, of course. But rather than keeping any of them, I'd rather join them in the ocean.
Cinnebuns
I'm gonna add a mammal to the list and say blue whale. Heck I wanna see one up close period!
xXInkedPhoenixX
This is my favorite video about Coconut Octopus, they are among few species in the ocean that use tools and of course utilize coconuts or shells to protect themselves: 3

Ogpulchra
Then I'm going with a robot dolphin from Edge Innovations. I just learned about them last night. Robot dolphin best friend. Sick. Edit: oops, meant to quote Cinnebuns about the blue whale Edited December 20, 2021 by Ogpulchra

Same here! But I know it's super hard if not impossible so I have a secondary of going to an area in california/Mexico which escapes my mind right now. Grey whales, I believe that's the species there, come right up to the boat!
Streetwise
I would enjoy pet Otters.
drewzero1
I was going to say Geophagus but all of these cephalopods are really making me dream of nautilus. Or cooler yet (and 100% less possible): ammonites! Maybe with some trilobites on the bottom for a clean-up crew. Really a whole Devonian aquarium would be awesome. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devonian#/media/File%3ADevonianfishes_ntm_1905_smit_1929.gif If I could just get funding to clone the blood in these fossilized leeches...
