  1. Welcome to the forum. I'm afraid that the assassin snail won't help with algae as they eat other snails. Your stocking levels are fine and you could add more fish you would just need to keep a close eye on your water parameters and water change as needed. Imo a 10g is a bit small for a hillstream loach, maybe consider getting rid of the assassin snail for a different type of snail like ramshorn or nerite. If you prefer shrimp I would personally go for amano over cherry with a betta.
  2. Temperature is too low as Colu said somewhere in the 24-28 range is best. However in my experience glowlight tetra are not generally the most active swimmers when they feel safe, they do tend to stay in an area and school quite loosely. As long as they are feeding well and water perramiters are good I wouldn't be worried.
  3. I would suggest rummy nose tetras, they are easy to look after and can usually handle a fairly wide range of water perramiters. Plus they are really active and will follow anything outside the tank and in it (I have to be careful when maintaining the tank as they are really inquisitive and sometimes get in the way 😂). In a 20 gallon long you could easily have a good size group of 12-18.
  4. Nice looking tank, have you considered adding some floating plants (just not duckweed 😂)
  5. Do you have access to cycled media (another tank, friend or lfs) to try and kick start the cycle again. Or maybe try something like fluval Cycle or api quickstart along with 50% daily water changes. Floating plants like dwarf water lettuce can also help with water quality as they are fast growing and in my experience bettas love swimming around in roots.
  6. My newest addition, have been waiting for a month to get him while he went through quarantine at my lfs.
  7. For me personally 7 tanks is where I have found a good balance. I do maintenance on 1 a day spending anywhere from 15-60 minutes depending on what needs doing. Have had more in the past but found it started to feel more like a chore than a hobby.
  8. Try adding some of your seeded media to the tank in contact with your substrate and hard scape it should help get the bb get established.
  9. Favourite fish to keep depending on tank size Nano tank - chili rasbora as you can have a lot in a small tank and get great colours and activity. Mid size - rummy nose tetra because they are constantly moving all over the tank and ime are very inquisitive when you are near the tank. Large size - Discus I just love the variety of colours. Breeding it has to be guppies the fact you can mix the strains so easily and try to create something new. For enjoyment has to be betta they have so much personality and are very engaging.
  10. I always use mesh bags to create a base layer to build on filled anywhere from half to three quarters full. Then fill in the gaps with the final substrate to prevent trapping any air. I find this results in a really stable platform to then build my scapes on.

  12. I'm UK based as well, try searching for EGONDIS 35 Litre Rimless Low Iron Glass Aquarium Tank on amazon, depending on your budget these are OK.
  13. That is a type of of anubias not sure what one though. It's not suitable for planting into gravel as the rhizome will rot.
  14. If you like apistogramma have you considered kribensis when fully coloured up they are really beautiful fish and in my experience they tend to peaceful in a community tank. Fish that I think work well with them would be something like cherry barb or neon green rasbora.
  15. I am looking for some terrestrial plants that I can use with the roots submerged and was looking for some suggestions. I have the problem that due to allergies I cannot use ferns, monstera or lilies. Can anyone help?
  16. You could also try isopropanol (also known as isopropyl alcohol) it's the base ingredient in sanitiser and a lot of disinfectants, basically pure alcohol, and evaporates away leaving no residue. I use this to clean all my tanks and have never had any issues.
  17. If you are worried you could try something like 10mm (sorry don't know the convertion to inches) ply board on top to add extra strength and rigidity.
  18. Can only speak for my area of the UK, but that feeling of same old same old when it comes to selection of fish available. Don't get me wrong I know that lfs have to be able to sell them, but would be nice to have a bit more variety.
  19. I would recommend the same as Colu 2 x 150w heaters with maybe an inkbird just for the extra protection. As for bottom dwelling fish you have a lot of great options pleco wise, just be sure to provide them with some hiding places.
  20. Imo all three together in anything less than a 55 would be difficult as they can be quite territorial especially when breeding (which In my experience they do quite readily with good water conditions, I don't keep them anymore for this reason as found it hard to find a home for them). You will need to have plenty of line of sight breaks as well.
  21. I used to use a spreadsheet to keep track of ammonia, nitrites, and any changes ect with dates, but over time I have learnt to recognise issues just by the look of the tank.
  22. You should be ok with a 20 long short term, but they reach about 6 inches when fully grown so ideally would need to move to a bigger tank that's at least 18 inches wide.
  23. @GriznatchI have always considered my tank addiction as therapy 😂
