  1. 50w Forgot to mention that I can't find any cracks or damage to the glass.
  2. I bought 5 glass heaters and 3 out of 5 sound a bit like a kettle before it starts whistling when they are heating. Anyone ever experience this sound with an aquarium heater or know what could cause it? I let each one sit in the aquarium for a couple of hours before plugging in. 2 out of the 3 haven't been exposed to air since I put them in. They've all been placed next to sponge filters. The sound takes 2-3 days to start. Help!
  3. That's an interesting auto correct Lol
  4. @eatyourpeas Happy Thanksgiving! I always enjoy your posts. 🙂 I'm not super active here, but I'm thankful for this community. Lots of good people and helpful info.
  5. 1. Pygmy sunfish (Elassoma species) 2. Pygmy Corydoras 3. Crocodile toothpick fish (Indostomus paradoxus)
  6. @nabokovfan87 @Pepere Mystery solved! Something was stuck to the bottom rim which kept the corner from sitting flat... I did check the tank on multiple surfaces and that corner was always the problem. Not sure how I missed the gunk on the bottom, but glad it wasn't a wonky tank. Thank you to everyone that responded!
  7. @Chick-In-Of-TheSea I used shims between the 2x4 rack and the sheet of plywood to get it level. The tank had the same issue on a completely level, smooth countertop, so I don't think it's a matter of the plywood or stand not being level. I emailed the manufacturer to see what they say.Too late to return unfortunately.
  8. @Pepere Unfortunately it's a new tank but past the return window. I emailed the manufacturer to see what they recommend.
  9. @ComradovichIt's a rimmed tank. I am really just concerned about the one corner that isn't completely flush. @nabokovfan87I checked the tank and the shelf that the tank will be sitting on with spirit levels. I tried putting the tank on several other smooth, level surfaces last night and it's always the same corner, so it might be a problem with the tank rim. I'm going to put some kind of foam or cork under the tank (nothing thick enough to push up on the bottom pane) and call it a day. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't worrying too much about such a small gap at one corner. This project feels like it's taking forever and a day! Thank you for replying!
  10. I can slide a piece of paper under one corner and the middle of my 33g long. I can't get a debit card under any part of the tank and the plywood shelf is level side to side and back to back. Am I safe to fill the tank or should I wait until I can get that back corner to touch the plywood? I tried using a 1/2" yoga mat under the plywood and that didn't help.
  11. The dominant male usually hangs out in front and I see the females in the plants pretty often.
  12. I posted here 3-4 months ago about possible eggs that showed up in my Elassoma gilberti tank a week or two after I got them. I saw teeny-tiny fry not too long after and now they are fully colored up! I am hoping to keep a self-sustaining colony. I made sure to line up a shop that can take some if breeding is too successful.
  13. I am limited to sponge filters unfortunately. That's the issue. I'll probably just find other tanks to use the regulator on.
  14. I would like to inject a small amount of CO2 into a 33g long (approx. 48"x12.5"x13"), but I'm worried about getting enough circulation to distribute it throughout the tank. I am restricted to using sponge filters and most of the stock will be tiny nano fish that don't appreciate a lot of flow. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't such a long, shallow tank. I'll have 2 medium Aquarium Co-op sponge filters at both ends and plan on having a pretty dense stem plant jungle. I considered adding a power head next to the diffuser once the stem plants really fill in. I could also add a manifold and have a diffuser at both ends. Am I worrying about nothing? Any input or advice would be appreciated.
  15. I did that and ended up having issues with nitrates. My anubias and java ferns greened up and growth exploded once I started adding Seachem potassium instead of extra Easy Green.
  16. Yeah, but most of the large scale fish trade is pretty gnarly. I don't want to get into the ethics of glofish since this is just fantasy.
  17. I'd want glofish versions of all my favorite nano fish... Boraras species rasboras, peapuffers, pygmy corydoras, pygmy sunfish, kuhli loaches, and clown killifish. I have a glofish betta and they are really beautiful in heavily planted tanks.
  18. Are you a Channel 5 fan (All Gas No Brakes)? Ypu have beautiful tanks!
  19. My bettas have done a lot better with rasboras (Boraras species). A couple of my green neon tetras were fin nippers, but you might not have that issue with your neons.
  20. 36"! A betta got me into the hobby about 3 years ago, so it will be his special retirement tank. 🙂
  21. The 12g long is $120-130 everywhere I've looked locally, so I thought it was a decent deal. I agree that I spent way more by gallon, but that footprint is niiiice.
  22. I thought the aquamaxx tanks were a good deal, but I could be wrong. I bought a 12g long for $75.
  23. Bulk reef supply has bookshelf aquariums for about 50% off and free shipping on orders over $50. Can't beat Petco prices, but seems like a good deal for bookshelf tanks.
  24. Finally big enough to get pictures!
