  1. My best guess is the ugf is actually pulling sediment clear through the substrate and back into the water column. If the gravel is course and the uplift is strong that could happen. You can put a layer of sand on top of the gravel to filter more gunk and/or slow the flow by using airstones in place of pumps.
  2. A photo of the whole tank would be helpful.
  3. This is truly an awesome accomplishment. I am excited to follow the fry developments. Best wishes.
  4. Guppysnail said somewhere in this topic that the dead algae will still cling to the plant after RR. And indeed I found that to be the case. No problem though, as all my shrimp and some snails had a feast and remove it all in about a week.
  5. You should ask your lfs where they get their clouded archers, the source that is. Burmese Clouded Archer (Toxotes Blythii) are a true fresh water archer that you can find from time to time. They are said to be peaceful community fish, though I do not know from personal experience. They certainly are beautiful. An online competitor I cannot name has some in stocks right now.
  6. It's hard to get these orange lemon tetras in focus. Best I could do tonight.
  7. I can only guess if it's harmful to retreat this soon, because I haven't done it . I think anubius are tough enough it wouldn't matter. If it were me I would wait a week then redo it. @Guppysnail may have the real answer.
  8. I don't know what it is, but it looks real nice. Maybe just pearl moss doing really well?
  9. Back in November I RR'd a Java fern infested with black beard algae. I treated it for 12 hours then put it back in the tank. The algae was only half gone. Unsatisfied, I retreated it again, one month later. This time for 16 hours. That did the trick. Here's the fern three months later.
  10. This intermittent severe flashing reminds me of my own situation. I had very similar problems in more than one tank for a long time. I tried remedies like you have with no results. I never saw disease or flukes, but used all those meds anyway with no results. Finally I found what seems to be the problem. Micro bubbles in the water! Especially this time of year when the water comes in the house cold and then is warmed up to to match the tank temp. Once in the tank, the water starts to release all the extra gas trapped in the cold water. The result is your fish absorb the gasses into their body. I now gas off all my water-change water for at least 24 hours before doing a water change. The end result has been no flashing and much happier fish.
  11. The Xtreme Nano Pellets sink fast if you throw them in. If you put them in gently they float and slowly sink.
  12. My chili's love the co-op Easy Fry and Small Fish Food. Also one of their favorites is Xtreme Nano Pellets. Roll it between your fingers to make it crumble into micro size bits.
  13. Awesome info. I'm going to remember this tip. Thanks Guppy, you're the greatest.
  14. My jar of Repashy had long expiration date. I bought it nearly two years ago, and the fish eat it eagerly to this day. Sadly, the never ending supply just ran out and I purchased a replacement. I am in no way saying you should follow my advice, I'm just telling my experience.
  15. Your new tank is awesome, and so is your wife. She is grinning ear to ear, as I suspect you are. My wife likes my tanks too, but not that much.
  16. I hope you give us an in-depth look at your new tank. I had to look it up on the internet to see what it is. Very intriguing.
  17. I'm also impressed with your Vinyl collection.
  18. This photo reminds me of an aquatic insects' larval stage casing. They actually build a protective case made of biofilm, detritus, plant material or other items in their immediate vicinity. If this tube is hollow you might have midgeflys or caddisfly (or similar) larva.
  19. Personally I love detritus worms in my tanks, because my fish love to snack on them. I have been overfeeding my quarantine tank for about two weeks now in order to increase the worms, all in preparation for a shipment of fish I'm getting next week.
  20. I forgot to mention that this will kill all the beneficial bacteria also, so you will have to re-cycle the tank before adding fish.
  21. In the Journals topic section you can read the RR, Reverse Respiration thread. You can leave the plants in the tank, but you must remove any living animal you don't want to kill. It will kill all the worms. Being a 10 gallon tank the cost for 10 gallons of seltzer water is not too high.
