    Baby Barbs

This morning I moved all the baby barbs to their forever home. As I netted them out of the ten gallon I kept count. Final number from this spawn is 33. I'm very pleased with that. I have 15 in the flex (32 gallon) already, so adding these new babies will make a nice large group. They are always active and zooming around so it's going to be fun to watch them all. I tried to get some photos but they are not cooperating at all. Anyway, here's what I could get.
  2. Well, that really screws up all the math.
  3. According to my math, if they all die you'll only be out about 3 bucks. Good luck.
  4. I always end up needing more for something, so extra is good to have on hand.
  5. A 20lb bag was plenty for me, in fact I didn't use it all.
  6. Yep. Sadly I had to throw out my coffeefolia not long ago.

    Baby Barbs

Thanks. I'm going to put them in this tank in the front room. Mom and dad are in here, along with several siblings. Of course they all had to hide cuz I am looking at them.
  8. This was a couple weeks ago, but weather related. In the afternoon heat we had a torrential downpour that blasted out of this cloud.
  9. It's been 1@1/2 years since I got this buce. After moving it just a few inches just a couple weeks ago, it has made a pretty little bloom.

    Baby Barbs

Today I was able to get a photo of all 31 barbs in one shot. Yes 31. Thanks to @Colu informing me of the killer snails in the tank, I was able to increase the fry count from two to 31. This time I removed by hand every snail I could see before putting the spawners in the tank. That was a chore that lasted a solid two days. After they spawned and I removed the parent fish, I continued squishing very small snails that appeared for several more days. I'm guessing one or two more weeks before I move them into their forever home. This has been a lot of fun.
  11. It's been my experience that you cannot save an anubius of rot by trimming off the bad segment. It will continue to rot. Also, I have not seen it spread from one to another.
  12. I bought the Aqueon 40b lid from the petco website. They do deliver lids. It came clear from the California warehouse in an absolutely huge box. All I had to do is buy one more item to get free shipping. What a great deal.

    Baby Barbs

Today is exactly one month since the parent fish scattered the eggs that are now these guys. They actually seem to recognize me as the food guy.
  14. Your tank looks beautiful. I think hanging the lights from the ceiling will look nicer too.
  15. Yes, it's a dwarf variety. Seven inches is supposed to be as large as they get. As quickly as this guy reached that size though, I wonder. If it gets substantially larger than this I will report on it here.
  16. My main concern after seeing this thread is water parameters. I consider any level of ammonia deadly to fish, if not immediately, long term stress will catch up to the fish. I thought I saw elevated nitrite also. Long term stress on the fish. I would fix those problems and then medicate the tank with the co-op trio to insure you have no parasite or fungal issues. I believe this tank should have a weekly water change schedule to change out 25% to 30% of the water. You may not feel like you overfeeding, but with that many fish plus the snail poop machine, you might be.
  17. So it turns out this thing is actually a pig. He never stops wanting to eat, and that fat belly shows it. He has already cleaned out all my shrimp. I do add more from other tanks as I can, because it's his favorite treat. Now all of a sudden he has figured out that those snails are gourmet food. There are almost none of those left either. He has wasted no time growing to full size for this species. He was four inches when I got him, now he is a bit over seven inches. Here's a few pics of a great pet.
  18. I'm sure lots of folks would like to help. First download a photo. A picture is worth a thousand words. Include info on actual number of fish, what you feed and how often. Include actual water parameters and what test you use. Test your tap water as well. Include your water change schedule. Also, where did you buy your fish. All this will help to figure out what's going on.

The fry count keeps increasing. I'm up to 20 baby barbs now. Here's a shot of 12, maybe 13 in one frame.

    Baby Barbs

Here is a quick update. As near as I can figure, these golden dwarf barbs were hatched 17 days ago. They are starting to get some of their barb color and pattern now. Also, chasing down and pigging out on frozen baby brine shrimp. Today I was able to count 11 fry. Here's a couple shots.
