  1. MTS Alert!!! On my way to pick up this 65 gallon bad boy. I have enough stuff for setting up the 90g and spare parts hanging around that I can do both at the same time. Meaning that I can have my Angel tank and my Rainbow tank now. Although Hubby has made this the cut line for tanks. That is understandable and ok because I would not have somewhere to put another one. 😉
  2. I loved reading through your posts. It was like story time, so well written. Looking forward to hearing the next chapter.
  3. LOVE 'wise and old snails'. Also like the idea of having Ramshorns. Will have to read up on them now.
  4. I remember there being a gold fish bowl on the piano when I was little and we would fight over who got to (over) feed it. No idea if we did water changes. I had my first personal tank in grade 6 and it was a 5 gallon with the most annoying little box air filter thing that would always float to the top. Just kept adding rocks to it. I think I had Molly's most of the time. At some point I up graded to a 10 gallon. Had many things in it. It's longest occupants were a white angel fish names Gab (Gabriel) and a common pleco named Kirby. Fun fact, all my cleaning bottom dwellers have had vacuum cleaner names. Current one is Dyson. I now know way to small of a tank but the both had very long lives. 5-10y. Currently have a 30g and working on setting up a 90g 25+ years later.
  5. I had a few hitch hikers a month or so ago on some plants. Snails are friends. Just want to be able to add what kind they are to my list of what's in my tank. Help please. I have also noticed that my trumpet snails seem to be going white. I know this has something to do with calcium but I am a bit confused as we have hard water. Maybe I am messing that up. I have had them in my tank for years. Only learned to love them in the last 2 years. I have noticed this in correlation with add more life plants in the last few months. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance everyone.
  6. My two little friends that helped with filter testing. They had ignored it all week when it just had water in it. As soon as there was moving water, they wanted to go swimming. I ran the filter for a couple of days. It was really noisy so I took it apart and found a piece of plastic bouncing around. I realized it had snapped off when I was trying to lock the hoses in place. So got new parts and it ran amazingly for 5 days. No leaks, not loud, good water movement. Then it started to get loud again. I ended up unplugging it and it has been sitting for over a week again. Life sure does like to get in the way of hobbies sometimes. Hopefully I can look at it in the next few days. Really want to get it up and running. Not to mention the plants I thought would be in it by now are very much taking over my 30g. Slow and study....
  7. Well I filled the tank the rest of the way on Monday and it is still holding strong. Going to leave water in it until ready to move so that everything's inside stays wet. Either later today or tomorrow I am hoping to test the filter. It is a canister filter which I have never had before. It was part of the awesome deal I got with the tank at auction. I bought all the media and a few small replacement parts months ago. Although something in the back of my head tells me I am missing something. I guess we will find out soon.
  8. Thanks for the help everyone. I knew it was something easy. My brain was just in slow mo mode yesterday.
  9. Quick question. Having a brain fart day. If I want to add to my fish keeping journal on the forum, do I just do new post as a reply? Reason I ask is that is how I did yesterday but when I go to do the same thing today yesterday's words pop up and I am afraid if I delete that to put today's post, I will lose yesterday's post. Thanks
  10. It is way over due but I have an update on my 90g. It has WATER in it! Life has a way of deciding to mess up your well laid out plans. Finally got the resealing of the tank finished 2 weeks ago and hubby helped me wrestle it to the basement. Which I might add went much smoother than I thought it would. Today I filled it just over a 1/4 with water and I will wait until tomorrow to add more. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be filled and hold water. Than I will drain it, put the stand in place (still need to clean the spot) and start building my dream tank.
  11. Random question, when shimming to level a tank, do I do it between tank and stand or under stand? I am thinking under stand but now second guessing myself. 90 gallon going in basement on concrete floor that is slanted to a drain.
  12. @RobHart28 $400 for an entire set up. That is amazing!!! You will have so much fun with all your new fishy real estate. Kinda jealous!
  13. Thank you so much for all your support. I did not rip up the tank. I look for the shrimp everytime I go by and I think 48 hours later they are feeling comfortable in the tank because I can actually see some of them today. Feels like a Where's Waldo game.
  14. Thank you @KaitieG and @OceanTruth. Breathing a bit easier but I will still be counting shrimp every time I go by for the next week or so.
  15. Sooooo, it is one of those days. I just finished planting my now properly identified crypts (thanks @Brandy). I want them to take off and give them a good kick start by adding lots of root tabs. It was also time to add some for other plants. Now I am freaking out, I also added 8 shrimp this afternoon. I added some yellow and blue. Did all the research.... and somehow forgot in the excitement of planting my plants that you have to be careful with copper and shrimp. Checked my tabs and sure enough it as some listed. Question: do I know need to undo my whole set up and find all the root tabs? Picture below of brand. I am in 🇨🇦 so unfortunately can't get Easy Tabs.
  16. @Brandy Thank you very much. I was 99% sure the first one was a crypt but no clue on the second. I am really looking forward to planting them with some root taps now and watching them fill out.
  17. The first plant was sold to me as a Java Fern, however it really looks like a crypt of some sort. Can someone clarify for me. Second plant did not have a label, several little plants in the plant wool with long roots. I don't want to plant them in substright if ment to be on wood or rock and vice versa. Thanks in advance for your knowledge and help.
  18. Husband was home from his truck for a few days. Before he left again I got him to help me flip tank over. Taking silicon and glue of the bottom edges to than be able to put the base back on.
  19. Morning, just found this thread and thought I would add my two cents. For me it has always and will always be about the relationship with the people at my LFS. After being in this town for 9 years it has become a really good one. We now great each other by name and they ask about our fish and our cats. I have never sold for profit but have definitely dropped of bags of Guppies and Molly's when I have been overrun with them. In return their customer service is amazing. The owner Roger has fixed things for me at no charge. Given me random discounts and loads of support as I have gotten more into the hobbie. I am currently working on getting a 90g up and running and I can't wait to talk about my ideas for plants and stocking with them. It is a win win in my books.
  20. Life happens and not much has changed with the 90 gallon, that is until today. I have spent almost 5 hours cleaning up the bottom black rim so I can reattach it. Pain stacking work with razor blade and acetone to get several layers of silicone/ glue off.
  21. WOW! Thank you so much @James Black, I just looked up the deep water creek rainbow and that is my guy and gal in a nut shell. I will now be able to research them better to see if they will fit into the plan for the 90 gallon. Loving this forum. I have learned so much in the last few weeks than the last 25 years of fish keeping.
  22. Love the stories of everyone's favourites (Canadian Spelling lol). For the last four months mine has been a rainbow and I am ashamed to say that I am not sure of the species. I have had a couple in my tank for almost 18 months. I never really saw match colour from them, that was until I rehomed to sword tails that decided to become jerks. I have had swords before but never like those ones. The last straw was when they bit a chunk out of my rainbow. With the bullies gone and the tank moved to a different location in the house, the rainbows have come to life. Depending on the time of day the colours are amazing. He always catches my eye and I am constantly calling my husband over to look. I will definitely be putting some more of these in my new 90 gallon when it is restored and up and running. P.S. He is not a fan of the camera. Pictures are not the best.
  23. I just came across this journal and have read it from start to finish. I will definitely be following your journey. You also totally know what you are doing!
  24. I have started the clean up process for my new tank. Lots of hard water stains and build up. Now that it is cleaned up I can tell that this is a tank someone has built or already put back together once. The glass is 1/2 inch thick and the front panel sits about an 1/8 of an inch in on bottom glass plate and therefore the back panel is sitting the same off of the bottom at the back. I do not think this will be an issue due to the thickness of the glass. There are also a few more chips out of the edges but again because of the thickness of the glass, I should be good. Today's job is to get the tank turned upside down and the bottom black rim reattached, that is of course after I scrub it clean. P.S. Lily is currently using it as her personal fort.
  25. Well it was an interesting afternoon. I got my new tank from an auction for a store that was closing because owners are retiring. I was crossing my fingers that it would all fit in my Ford Escape. Well.... 1 inch to long to get tank and stand in together and we tried a few different ways. I will say that there are still good people out there. Someone else that was there offered to bring it to me. The wife works in my town. It saves me another round trip of an hour and a half.
