  1. I am leaning that way as well. I had one in what I now know was to small of a tank 12 years ago. He did live a long happy life and I would love to have them again now that I know the tank is big enough.
  2. I am so excited for the next chapter in my fish keeping journey that I thought it would be fun to start a journal. I have butterflies as I get closer to picking it up this afternoon. Currently I have a 30 gallon so the day dreaming of what something 3 times the size will look like is fun. Making different tank set ups with different fish and plants. Doing lots of research to make an amazing community tank with fish that like to party together. I am leaning towards Angel fish or Rainbows as my star fish with some schooling fish. Stay tuned over the following months as a get it up and running. P.S. I will be asking lots of questions!!! 🙂
  3. Put your tank somewhere that you can see it the most. You will find yourselves randomly lost in it for minutes/ hours. When we moved into our current home 4.5 years ago the tank was put in living room but in a spot I could not see from the spot I send most of my time chillin/folding laundry/reading with kids.... I really missed just having it catch my eye. We got new furniture in November and this ment we could move the tank. I have spent more time staring at it in the last 2 months than I have in 4 years. It has resparked my passion and I am loving it. So is the rest of the family. P.S. in middle of cleaning livingroom and water change. Sat down to write this and now don't want to get up. 😁 30g long.
  4. YES, currently I am inline to get this tank for $18 from an auction. I also have a bid on a 90g with stand for just under $100. The largest tank I have ever had is my current 30g, which I have had for several years. I have also only had HOB's. Both the ones I am looking at have built in filters. I will attach pictures. I am looking for pros and cons please.
  5. Very glad to here that the problem has been figured out and hopefully being changed. Also glad to hear you are getting some new fish.
  6. This will be the first time I have treated my tank with salt. As of a few months ago we can no longer get the normal ich meds I use in Canada. I have used my last of what I had. My amazing fish store has given me the amounts of salt and details. However I completely forget how long i need to leave the temp raised in the tank. Tank is at 77f/25c currently. It was a heater issue that has caused a huge temperature swing and therefore the ick. 1) is 80f a good temp to raise it to? 2) how long to I leave temp raised for? It's a community tank with tetras of different kinds, neons, danios, rainbows and Bristlenose. Live plants.
  7. Thank you for the warm welcome @Alesha. It is amazing how much you think you known until you realize you know nothing. Fish are also much happier and eating better now that they are warm. Could not figure out why they were not eating when normally they attack their food.
  8. Following this as I am having something that looks very similar.
  9. New to plants in the last few months. I have two in my tank that I am not sure of. Owner was not out my local pet store when I got them. He is the plant guy and their labels were not with them. Both are stem plants. Green one is doing good, no real new growth. Red one has lots of new growth at the top of each stem. I am slowly working on my algae issues as well, but will take any help. Just added to Bristlenose yesterday. I have also added a sponge filter along with my hang on back to help with some water movement. Yes, I have some floating plants. Cat had a swim in tank today and going to wait another day or two before going in again. Fish have had enough fun for today. In Canada so not able to get all the same treatments and such as you fine folk in the states.
  10. Hi, I am from Ontario, Canada. I have had some version of a community tank for almost 30 years. Started with Molly's in grade 6. Currently I have a 30g long. I would love bigger but house size makes that difficult. I also want to make sure I know what I am doing before I get bigger. Tank has seen lots of changes in the last six months. I have had to do some fish rehab after a couple Sword Tails decided to go on an attack bender out of nowhere. I have had them before with no issues. I have changed out my blue rocks for natural river rock and Seachem. I started with plants in a 5g that I adopted from a friend last year. I worked on that for about 4 months and just before Christmas transplanted plants and fish to 30g and added more plants. Tank has also been moved to a location where I can actually sit and watch it now. I have learned so much in the last year since finding Aquarium Coop on YouTube. Cory you made it so much easier and less intimidating to start live plants. Fish in the tank currently: Neon Tetras, Zebra Danios, Black Skirt Tetra, Ember Tetra, Rasbora Scissortails, Rainbows, and 2 Bristlenose plecos added yesterday. Plants: Amazon Sword (just had first propagation), Cryptocorne, Java Fern, Vallisneria, and 2 plants I am not sure about, possibly Moneywort and Copper Leaf Ammania. Owner was not at the store the day I picked them up and he is the plant guy. Love our little store!!! They have helped me more than once and for free when they should or could have charged me. P.S. The last 2 days have been intresting so my picture is not the best. Did you know that before you panic and run to the store to get a new heater, you should make sure yours is plugged in. Also do not let 7yrs old move cat tower near fish tank. You will get yelled at from the basement that a cat is in the tank. Yep, that was my morning!!! 🤪
