  1. I’m about to set up my 2nd tank. The first was a 29 . Half dirt and half pool filter sand. After 3 weeks the tank is beautiful. Now I want to set up a 75, but with dirt and eco complete as the cap. Aquarium gravel is $19 for 20 lbs, eco complete is $22 for 20 lbs. is my logic skewed for using eco complete for a cap?
  2. I'm Planning on putting Parrots in my 75 with 4 angels, and a pair of electric blue acara, I just need to find some quality parrots.
  3. Most South American cichlids. They aren’t aggressive but they’ve held their own with Red Devils, Oscar, etc.
  4. Is Gorilla Glue gel safe for aquarium use?
  5. Will moss that I find growing on rocks or trees or on the ground, in the woods, also grow in my aquarium?
  6. I set this up a couple weeks ago. At first it was cloudy as stained, I added more plants, water is crystal clear now, fish are healthy and happy. I’ll be moving the angels and gouramis to a 75 I have yet to set up. I’m seasoning a sponge filter in this 29. Do you all think I have too many plants? Is there such a thing as too many plants.
  7. So copper, and it’s associated minerals is bad. But iron is good for plants but bad for fish?
  8. I live in a mineral rich area. Lots of abandoned mines within 100 miles from my front door. Mostly iron and copper, but also silver, gold and even a few diamond prospects. I get most of my hard scape from the poor rock piles (the rock that doesn't contain ore.) Are there any mines I should stay clear of? Which minerals are bad for fish?
  9. In a few weeks I'll be setting up my 75, but my delivery of 2 large sponge filters for the 75 should arrive this week. Would it be wise for me to run the new sponge filters in my established 55 so that they will cycle faster? If so, how long would you suggest I run them in the 55 gallon?

  11. I’m about to set up my 75. I just did a test strip of my water out of the tap. The GH is 150, KH is 180, and pH is 7.8. What kind of fish thrive in this water?
  12. I have very hard water. Will I be able to water change the tannins out of the water? I’m used to crystal clear tanks.
  13. I have spider wood that leaches tannins into the water. Can I paint the wood to minimize the leaching? And if so, what kind of paint. Also while I’m on the subject of paint. What kind of paint can I use for the back and side of my 75 gallon? I can’t paint it in the garage since it’s in the 30’s now most days.
  14. Well that's the plan, I'll move them from the 55 to the 29 for a bit of privacy. Move my platties, swords and gouramies and angels to the 75. And remake the 55 into a dwarf cichlid tank. And the really scary part about this whole proposal, I only had the 55 gallon 8 days ago, lol.
  15. Would a 29 gallon tank be sufficient for breeding the Acara? At this time they are juveniles, about 2"-3", but they have spawned a couple times in the past. But then they're in a community tank and the babies become fish food.
  16. Aside from keeping fish I also catch and eat my fair share. According to the fishing tackle companies, fish can't see red. That's why fish hooks are red, and there's even red fishing line. It's said to disappear at 3 1/2 feet in depth
  17. Hey Everyone, This is Tom from Niagara, WI. A little about me and what has become my addiction as of late. I Grew up in Milwaukee, WI. In early 70's I had a 55 gallon with under gravel filtration and 2 crappie, 2 sunfish, and a bullhead. I could never convert them to eat the Tetramin flakes I had bought for them so I fed them minnows from the local bait store. I found that those fish are much heartier than any of the fish I have kept since. Then when I got my first house in the 90's I upgraded to a 125 with a boat load of Haps and Peacocks, They were beautiful. But when I moved up here to take care of my elderly parents, I had to put the tank in a storage locker. Fast forward 10 years and another home. I started with a 55, planted community tank. all was good. It turned into a great tank after the plants filled in. Then I started to watch Cory's videos on YouTube, and thought about getting a little 5 gallon shrimp tank. I met a woman that wanted to get rid of a 29 for cheap, so I set the 29 up last week, instead of getting the 5 gallon. It just has swords, platties, and two gouramies. But it's my first attempt at a dirted, planted tank. Last week I got a smokin' deal on a 75 gallon and stand, so now I have to set that one up, soon as I decide on how to set it up. Which also means more plants from Aquarium CO-OP. Here's a pic of my 29, minus the latest shipment of plants. It's a little cloudy but its only a few days old. So much to learn so little time, lol.
