  1. using the vent is one of the best/ only way to effectively sex bolivian rams, is it the same with kribs
  2. all of the peru collecting the videos are funny educational and over all amazing
  3. im going to say in general lower light causes plants to grow taller (they want to get as much of the light as possible) but it probably also causes them to grow slower and can die. I have read that the color of the light effects how plants grow (dont quote me but i think blue causes denser growth while red causes long wispy growth)
  4. take option 2 and throw it into an incinerator in Antarctica, then dig a hole 7 miles down, drop 20 nukes on it and then dump in concreate and delete Antarctica from the current collective human knowledge. this isnt even a joke NEVER RELEASE CAPTIVE ANIMALS BACK INTO THE WILD!!!!!!!!!! Even if they are native/ collected from the wild near you, it is ILLIGAL!!!!! And seriously damages the environment, also thats how things get banned from the aquarium hobby. This isnt directed at you, but I get very heated when it comes to invasive species (yes I flip off invasive plants when I come across them, im very odd)
  5. winners for the first side are out! we had some really close matches! we are starting to head into lesser known/ non community fish, so even if you dont have it, still feel free to vote on which one you like more! Also yes as I have stated previously some of the winners have changed after their round was over, I am going to go with the winner at the time, and ties will be extended an extra day then if it is still tied I decide. sorry @TheSwissAquaristyou kinda get screwed because you have a different time zone (we are running this off of est) remember, have fun, be competitive but also be respectful But more importantly, this was a ploy to show that endlers are better then guppies!!!!! *evil laughter* (just kidding... kind of)
  6. if you ask the fish what size they are they will both give you the same awnser, but in reality they are a small puffer in a large puffers body and a large puffer in a small puffers body (if you can consider pure unbridled rage a puffer!) do they even need introductions!? pea puffer (blue heart) Mbu puffer (purple trophy) (woops we have a photo bomber)
  7. two of south Americas giants, and some of every aquarists, and anglers dream fish! Arapaima (gigas, yes there are 3 species) possibly the largest freshwater fish, and it isnt just big, look at those colors! (blue heart) arawana (silver) a guppy in size compared to arapaima but still a big fish, much more reasonable monster fish (purple trophy)
  8. So even after @Odd Duck voted we still got another vote 1hour later for nerites, so I’m waying in and saying the winner is… MYSTERY SNAILS!!! Also Bolivians and ghost knifes win
  9. Boney tongue vs cyprinids, who is the real knifefish???? ghost knife fish, cyprinid, closely related to catfish, native to South America can use electricity to navigate but bad eyesight (blue heart) clown knife fish, related to arapaima and arawana a bony tongue native to Africa no electro reception but great eyesight (purple trophy)
  10. Time for the ram showdown!!! Bolivian rams get a little larger and are hardier, easier to breed, and can be kept cooler, but have less extreme colors (blue heart) german blue rams are smaller and a little finicky with water parameters but it’s hard to beat those colors! (Purple trophy)
  11. Winners: acf and a tie???? I’ll give my vote for tie breakers if that sounds fair.
  12. Just in general, not directed at you I just wanted to make it clear to people, because last round the winners swapped after the deadline
  13. I’m going to stick to the votes that were given on that day (unless you can’t give emojis AND YOU TELL ME!!!!) otherwise I’ll have to go back constantly and it could become a problem in the later rounds
  14. nerite snail (blue heart) mystery snail (purple trophy)
  15. Winners are cherry shrimp and adf Pipa pipa (blue heart) (Suriname toad, gives live birth out of their backs) african clawed frogs (purple trophy)
  16. What did you vote for for the two frogs? Also I didn’t mention this but the. Votes close the next day So even though the winners have flipped since Monday the winners when I checked at the beginning of Tuesday still remain
  17. Adf (blue heart) pepa parva (purple trophy) (similar to adf but from South America and closer to Surinam toads, they incubate their eggs in their backs)
  18. Amazon puffers and vampire shrimp win cherry shrimp (blue heart) tiger shrimp (purple trophy) (didn’t know the name for the caradina equivalent of cherry shrimp)
  19. It’s genetic modification so their babies will have it passed down
  20. Time for our first non fish! these are the two most common filter feeding shrimp bamboo shrimp (blue heart) vampire shrimp (purple trophy)
