nice. it going to need bigger wood!

I’ve got 3 more pieces to stick in it. 4 if you count my mossy log.

I think I’ve under estimated my substrate needs though.   I have about 1/3 bag of eco complete that I was planning on capping with 5 or 6 lbs of crushed coral and the gravel from the old tank.  Collecting thoughts:

should I get another bag of eco-complete or gravel?

my water has high gh, but little to no kh.  Since I’m working into discus, is this too much coral?

I was wishing for a 55.  Santa delivered a 75.  I could not be happier.  The front to back depth, give you and the fish all sorts of options.  I went with gravel, UGFs and power heads.  Gravel is forever, and upkeep is easy.  After maintenance the water is clear within the hour.

id trade my 55 for a 75 in an instant. bigger is always better if you have the room.

Gratz. Def a exciting time when new tanks are in the house.

I felt bad with the 55. It was so narrow!  I definitely like the dimensions of the 75 so much more.

That’s why I skipped the 55 in favor of the 75.  I could have settled so many times, but I’m sure glad I’m I waited.

Do you think you’ll need the coral for Discus? How low does your PH get without any additives?

My ph runs very low.  I was adding to mostly to build some stability in that department.   But I’m not fully committed yet.  FD541FA9-B1F4-4BD2-94B6-BCA0D49628B4.jpeg.051ba637e87120e77db01898ce1be52d.jpeg

@Ken Burkeare these the German discus that are good with higher pH? I was wondering based on the crushed coral you are using.

75 g are a great size. Happy you were patient and got what you wanted. Cannot wait to follow this build journey!!

Don’t really have a solid discus in mind.  I know I want all the same color, pigeon blood or turquoise Likely.  The plan is to get the tank running, then after it’s good and broke-in get the discus.

Yeah, that looks pretty low. I think you’re on the right track with the coral.

As for the 75 -D949B63B-5217-468D-B281-F0FE72ABCA8D.jpeg.9fe6a8f0fb308fb5d87e279ed7a91c73.jpeg

I’ve taped off the back, and put a tarp over the top.  Ready to paint.1902C261-2904-4006-8D13-C527548E99FE.jpeg.67bd74f6a9097562a85125aa989d317b.jpeg

coat one of the spray paint applied.  It’s the stone textured paint by RustoleumC36A3245-CE76-4C39-9AC7-0AC5C02F5181.jpeg.99fa203973bd854cd88c272270260197.jpeg

when viewed from the front.  The biggest issue with this paint is the drying time. It’s rather thick, so takes a little longer.  But the dark brown with Black and Tan flecks is worth the wait

as you can see, you can still see through the back.  I’ll do one more coat of the stone, then a coat of flat black (chalkboard)
