  1. Just 1 male Thats one reason I breed them in a 20long. Easy to catch and just enough room, too big of an aquarium and they may spawn somewhere else, too small the female may get hassle too much.
  2. When I pick for breeders I want to see a thick tail, you'll need a string thick tail near the dot to whole up a big tail fin. As for the fin I look for wide tail over long. Plus the top fin need to be the same length as the bottom. It's easy to make them longer but you'll get a weak tail and tail fin.
  3. Yes longfin are normal smaller in body size. Those in the photo looks like they have the neon gene
  4. From the photo, they look like fully mature fish. Since their dorsal and anal fin looks full already. Very nice deep red color to them! You should ask where they get their stock from. Finding breeder is the best way to improve your stock.
  5. I strain and rinse, if you feed twice a day everyday the tds will go way up. If I wanted salt in my aquarium I would just add what I need separately
  6. I'm on well water so my ph change with the seasons, so ph doesn't matter to me ...plus with ph swing it'll makes the fish hardier. You can try xtreme nano pellets..they seem to like that also but it cost was too much for my fishroom and it sink a bit too fast. Your backyard is beautiful!
  7. It's hard to judge from topview, did you get any side view?
  8. Yes they keep getting longer with age. If you can't find longfin female just cross them to a shortfin and breed the daughters back. Within the 6 month you'll have something to work with. A buddy of mine had the same problem, in Hawaii they only sell longfin males...because they don't want anyone less to breed them, that shouldn't stop anyone tho. I did send him 2 of my younger female and now he got over 400 frys to work with.
  9. Very beautiful setups! I use .5 kens green .5 kens color And bugbite color flakes. I use that for the whole fishroom. Here's a topview from my male last year. Im sure they would look great in tubs. Riasing them in outside tub will bring out more color, but you'll need enough current to make their tail longer and stronger.
  10. With endlers and wild guppies since they have small body marking it may vary. Even pure blue grass have less or more body marking
  11. The white cloud have been in our market for too long and isn't pure enough to be reintroduced. Itll be pretty much like the stock found in Hawaii now.
  12. Mine in the video are still very young, haven't gotten their full red color yet. Longfin in rosy is not dominant, so crossing them to a short you'll get all short. Even breeding longfin to longfin I still get a few shortfin. Longfin is dominant in zebra danio, but the best longfin away comes out of both longfin parent
  13. @Odd Duck in the aquarium trade there is only 1 white cloud from China everything been mix together. the photo only show white cloud from southern china, the northern is also different.
  14. It's true the guppy gotten weaker, but I believe the problem lies in all of us..the breeder, the wholesaler, the lfs, then us. For guppies the breeder are blinded by color and all they want is a nice color fancy fish disregarded health. Just because you picked up a different line from a different breeder doesn't mean he's not having the same problem as you. Wholesaler is moving too many fish and too fast. The longer they sit the less money they make. Same goes for most lfs. I know some lfs don't even do water change. I have seen decent fish comes in and fall apart a few days later. As for us I believe we are trying to control to much, ph, temp....ect Stress is the biggest problem, going from different water and environment. The only stress i recommend with everything else the same, is temperature swing. That will make the fish or their offspring hardier. The most healthiest guppy will be the fish born in your water and used to your setup.
  15. I would use a male endler on a female guppy, and here's why. With a endler female chances are you won't be able to tell what she carry and what line of endler she is, with a female guppy atleast you can guess by her tail color. Create a strain mean that family is breeding true, almost every fish looks the same and almost have same adult size. I recommend you drawing your "goal" guppy so you'll have something to reflect on. Also theyll need they own space to grow up and mature without other guppies getting mix in. I would start with putting that male endler with that black female guppies in their own aquarium, culling out her next 3 batches of babies cause she could gotten prehit by other males now.
  16. I believe every pet deserve a home, hybrids or not. But not every pet should be bred from. "Most" of the time when money is involved the quality or health of the animal deteriorate. Generation after generation it could get out of hand. But everyone have rights to their own opinion so I'm just gonna leave it at that.
  17. I 100% agree, breeding any animals to have health problems isn't right and irresponsible. I also breed doberman and there some bad gene that comes along with the breed, as a breeder it's my responsibility to make sure the parent don't pass on the negative gene, so my breeder gets health testing and genetics testing. Plus they live like farm dog, I want the hardiest working doberman possible. As a white cloud breeder I'm stuck, farm stock have deformity and no one is really working with them... so bad gene gets pass along. Since they don't have anymore in the wild I can't just clean them up with wild pure stock. I have thought about using their closest cousin (vietnamese white cloud) to clean them up. But with the group(50 fish) I picked up all have poor conformation also. Maybe I'm too picky or setting the bar to high o well lol Here's a few photo I pull from the web..these are not my fish This male have poor jaw, top jaw is too short, and hump is too high his face to angle way too high badhead poor tail I'm 90% sure this female is a hybrid, the dark body comes from the normal whitecloud and the dark black bar come from the vietnamese white cloud. So its in the market already.
  18. Yes swordtail and platy can hybridized, they even do that in the wild. But almost every platy and swordtail in our market are hybrid, unless said wild caught or collected location. The true tiger barb isn't as colorful and less aggressive than what we have now. Even guppies are being cross to endlers.. I mainly work with white cloud and both north and south minnow have been now cross into just 1 fish, some are even cross to the vietnamese white cloud.
  19. I'm glad you are enjoying my project, I have seen some the show more green than other. Neon rosy barb have more shiny scale or scale that reflects more. Neon will always be lighter than the normal color one....so they will never get a strong red These are still young so they still have alot of room to grow and get darker Take some photos of your I would love to see what you got to work with
  20. Swordtail, platy, tiger barb are all hybrid also. If they weren't ment to give form it wouldn't be able to happen, but there they are, living breathing.
  21. Yes they can, most people don't realize alot of aquarium fish are hybrid, nothing wrong with that.
  22. This is about halfway turn on..they get pretty dark red..kinda like the UK stocks
  23. Red line is from GA mainly and have very little blue flaking..but fire up dark red/violet.
