  1. Are there many Mountaineers in this forum? I’m in Fayetteville and I do not know any local serious enthusiasts. I’d love to find some locals to swap fish and plants with some time. I’d also really love to get a Club started someday. The closest club is over 3.5 hours away and I can’t get much info about it. Let me know if you’re anywhere near the Fayetteville area and would like to talk fish sometime
  2. I joined the Killifish Association a while back and hadn’t received any confirmation of any sort so I tried to go to their website to get contact info and it gone. Is the AKA no more??
  3. Just went to my LFS and they had Hillstream Loaches for $4 and White Clouds for $1. So of course I bought them all. 6 of the loaches and 20 white clouds. Does anyone have any pro tips for breeding the Hillstream Loaches? I’ve never kept them. They’ll be going in a heavily planted 55 with guppies and Corydoras after completing quarantine. Thanks so much!
  4. Weird. I have 4 SAE in a tank with only crypts and never had an issue. Hoping I didn’t just jinx myself.
  5. I’m a fellow Mountaineer as well. What part of the mountain state are you in? I’m in Fayetteville. Unlike someone above I absolutely love it here and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Anyone that complains about it here must not enjoy being outside and and admiring the most beautiful state in the nation.
  6. I’ve found the skewer sticks from Dollar Tree are the perfect length to pin between the bottom and the top trim on 10 or 20long and hold the food skewered in place. Plus you get a huge bag of them for a buck!
  7. I quarantine everything no matter what. Setup a plastic tote with a cycled sponge filter if you don’t have a dedicated quarantine tank
  8. Can’t wait to give it a listen @Randy are you planning to bring back much from this trip? I absolutely loved the knife fish that Dean posted on Instagram! I would’ve been bringing it back for sure!! ps i hope you do at least a dozen more episodes with Rosario and Joe. I could listen to their stories all day long
  9. I thought a put location. Sorry. New River Gorge area of Southern WV. They’re 2-3” long.
  10. Could y’all help me ID this native West Virginia native fish? Our towns visitor center has set up a native tank with these and crayfish. They’re asking me what the fish is and I have no clue about natives. Thanks so much
  11. I had a large mouth bass that ate piranhas, numerous Cichlids and a few channel cats. This was when I was a kid. I had them in a 125 and he got huge!
  12. Oh yeah. My birds will eat just about anything. Our geese will only eat them if they’re floating in their pond though
  13. Is anyone else obsessed with The Aquarist Podcast episodes with Rosario and Joe? I could listen to them talk about the good ole days all day everyday!
  14. I am overrun with Red Root Floaters. Every other day I’m feeding our tortoises and chickens enough to completely cover a 10 gallon. I have friends wanting me to ship them some. Does anyone have pointers for shipping them? I hear they are the easiest to ship. Thanks so much!!
  15. I took my 7 year old daughter to our LFS to sell her Mutt Guppies and mystery snails this weekend and she got this little guy as partial payment. I do not keep Cichlids other than angels so I have no clue what variety of Flowerhorn it is. She’s completely obsessed with him already and named him Pete. Once out of quarantine he’ll go to a 29 gallon grow out then a 75 in the living room. An ID of what variety and any Flowerhorn pro tips would be much appreciated!
  16. Facebook got too toxic and I deleted it but I’m considering starting another account just for a select few groups
  17. Is it caused by line breeding too long without bringing in new genetics?
  18. 10/4. I didn’t plan on hatching any out of this tank but I do plan on setting up a breeding tank or two but I’ll get that stocked from another source. Thanks so much. This is my first go round with rainbows and I’m pretty green.
  19. A local enthusiast/breeder gave my kids half a dozen Dwarf Neons and one of the males is not like the others. Looks like his spine is a little crooked or something and he swims with his head a little higher than all the others. It doesn’t seem to effect him much. Still very active and a good eater. What causes this? Gene pool too shallow, some sort of deficiency?? Thanks! PS pardon the dirty water. We’d just feed the tank.
  20. Check out LRB Aquatics on YouTube. He has lots of videos on overwintering above ground ponds. He gets some serious winter weather and his fish and plants seem to do well in his ponds
  21. Thanks! Lancaster is about 6 hours from me but may be one of my closest options.
  22. Is anyone else in the group from West Virginia or in the southwestern part of Virginia? We do not have a club in my area and I’d love to find someone to swap plants, fish or shrimp with some time.
