What did you get done today?

I put a black background on the discus aquarium. One of the discus kept getting spooked so i hope this calm him down. Unfortunately the a. lineta can catch a reflection of himself in the glass and starts to flare. Not sure what to do about that.

This is actually a spare aquarium in the basement but then i thought i'd try some wild caught discus.... oh well gotta learn self control. Anyways it doesn't get a whole lot of attention... but i do feed them twice a day. There are 40 or so cardinals in there but they don't much care for the discus - here the school got split in two with a small group on the left where you can see them and the rest are on the right.

Water changes on my pair of 100 G’s while a storm was rolling through today.  Everybody is stirred up!  Probably have some cory eggs soon and might get some blue-eyed lemon pleco eggs, too.

I used my brand new hygger auto water changer for the very first time. I have had it for a couple of weeks and admittedly, I’ve been intimidated by it (IDK why… 🙄). BUT… literally changed the water in my 29g under 5 minutes. NO MORE BUCKETS!!!!!!! I’m so dang over the moon about that!

would take at least 30-45 minutes using a bucket (2 gallons at a time).

I bought it for the new 75g and needed to test it out. Game changer. My back is thanking me already!

I did a clean and added some new plants to my aquarium.  I have spent hours researching shrimp.  I want to set up a shrimp tank.  I have pretty much decided to go with a 10 gal rimless tank.  I will plant it and probably add either a couple of Amano shrimp or some Pygmie Corries.  I am trying to decide what to do with excess population.  I think I will go to the local Petsmart and see if they will take them.  Otherwise perhaps a couple of Tetras to keep it in check.  I am setting this up because I like them, not particularly to become a breeder and sell them.

Here is my tank, it is coming along.  I had some lessons in plant addition when some of them fried.  The snail shell is from one that died.  It was the biggest snail we had.  My sister gave me a lovely gray blue snail and now we have babies.  Sigh.   There are actually fish in there, they hide when someone walks by.  My new plant is the dragon claw in the bottom right corner.  Now I am mad in love with them and have a few more ordered. I took out the dead plants and replaced them with a few Criytos.  I might try a Bucephalandra next.  Just tank puttering and having fun.

Well today was a very long day - and a heck of a lot of work but we replaced the sump on my ~600 gallon aquarium.

@xXInkedPhoenixX might find this interesting since they are about to setup the same type of aquarium:

This is what it used to look like (picture from 8x4):

And this is what it looks like now - minus some cleanup work:

Today, my very effective and highly appreciated DIY filter, fell apart! 😱

It turns out that Acrylic does not stick very well to glass. At least not using silicone!
The good news is, that I run multiple filters, so losing this one, is no as catastrophic as it could have been.
The bad news is, that I have one more of these that seems to be slowly breaking apart.

I am actually quite sad that they didn't hold, because I was really happy with the way they had turned out, and how effective they were!

Here is a short animation that I made, showing how one of them works:

And here are a few pictures from when I was putting it together:

Arguably, it took me longer to make the video than the filters...

Took a trip to the BB Pet store for some frozen foods and also brought home 3 new friends for my Albino Cory. You forget how tiny they are when you first bring them home. My older girls are HUGE compared to the new guys!

I am very surprise that silicon does not stick to Acrylic; but havent' researched it myself. You could of course make the horizontal bars out of glass. swisstropical sells corner matten filters (very similar to your filter) with pre-cut glass bars. Of course there is probably a certain joy in doing it yourself.

Moved my Snow White Bristlenose Pleco to a fry tank to wait for the little ones to hatch. This is the 5th time they have spawned and hopefully the third time I will get the fry to raise up. Still amazes me how comically large the female gets when she's full of eggs and how small she is when they are all laid.

I decided to move a "puffercam" and set up my lastest update to my spotted congonpuffer breeding tank. The intent is to make that contaimer their prefered spawning location. It should fill up with subwassertang in the next week of two. One puffer  took up the inspection duties already:
