Ok, do not be disappointed, there was a new critter in the tank two days ago, but he got eaten the next day. Must have been quite tasty! I am suspecting the starfish... 🙄 I am loving the anemones! There are 13 total in there! 😍
eatyourpeas
Newly found nematode: I am not sure if the victim is a snail or a hermie, but surely will find out soon: Predation seems to be the preferred activity today: Even the krill (the one and only in the tank) wants to see the outcome: Edited August 11, 2021 by eatyourpeas 2 1

Hobbit
Wow! It’s an anemone-eat-anemone world in there! (Not literally of course.)

The level of predation in this tank never ceases to amaze me. All the FW tanks are so mellow by comparison, nobody eats anybody unless I intentionally feed the puffers.

Also, I am jealous of the red macro-algae. I wish there were a FW version of that (and, no BBA and staghorn do not count).

Some additions came attached to the macros that I added as companions to the anemones and filtration. The little mussel and the krill came that way. I am surprised the krill has not gotten eaten as he is extremely curious and would come up too close to predators sometimes. I have seen the sculpin chase him out a couple of times. As expected, I find them all during feedings when they drop whatever they are doing to come and get food. Still figuring out foods, so I am trying pretty much a little bit of everything and pay attention to preferences. I now know snails shall be on the menu! Lorenzo has been with me for about four months now and he has grown a lot! Close to 2" from leg to leg, body shell about the size of a nickel. The macros are doing well, as well as some diatoms but have not seen any other micro except for the reds. I would love for the different Hildebrandia to cover all the rocks! BTW, starting a system to flush the chiller. Valves should arrive soon. 🤪
eatyourpeas
Well, it is over! Video has been sped up 16x, and I was not expecting the hermits to be so ready to take the empty shell. Based on the regurgitated bits I reckon Ursula ate a hermit, not a snail.

You know I've never thought about cleaning my chiller. Mine is on a close loop system with no organic inputs, so it just sits there. Year after year. But, yes, it makes total sense you would have to. I hope it is not too complicated. Best of luck!

I think I figured out an easy way to do it. I got another set of connect valves and will swap the lines temporarily to go to a bucket filled with H2O2 and its own pump, running that and circulating the liquid through the chiller while it is off. It won't be in the next few days due to the heat wave, but will report once I do it.

Beardedbillygoat1975
This salt water biotope is so much more brutal then the typical community tank. @eatyourpeasthanks for a great read every week. It’s a joy to follow. 2

eatyourpeas
Silly crab got himself there by riding a sea lettuce and now doesn't know how to get down 🙄 1
eatyourpeas
After four hours the Turkish towel came to the rescue and afforded a very clumsy dismount. Not an Olympic contender, for sure! 🤪 Also, happy to report that the 1" acrylic has worked beautifully in this heat. No condensation at all! 🙃
