  1. I joke around with my son that our betta is going to jump out of the water and karate chop us! Thank you for the advise!
  2. What are the benefits of flaring your Betta ? How often and for how long should you do it? I’ve read a few articles and there is a lot of back and forth on the subject. Any insight is appreciated.
  3. It’s a tricky subject, but I would start with 3 or 4 rasboras for a couple weeks so beneficial bacteria gets established. After that slowly add more fish in groups of 3’s or 4’s until you fully stocked your aquarium. I always wait a week or 2 just in case of disease or infection. Fritz Zyme 7 & Fritz Turbo Start are great products for starting up aquariums. @nabokovfan87has a great question about quarantine.
  4. My best guess is Bronze Corydora’s. The light bronze patch behind the eye is the indicator.
  5. @nabokovfan87my pandas love bottom scratcher too! It’s a fan favorite!
  6. I have a small paint brush I use for brushing off leaves and roots so I then can scoop up the debris. I’ll also use a small cup so the debris flows in.
  7. This made me laugh today because it’s so true!
  8. It looks like maybe Dwarf Chain Sword.
  9. Beautiful tank and great idea. I love the idea! Anubias, moss, and buce make a great nurse log!
  10. My cousin see’s my bamboo shrimp for the 1st time and says “you have lobsters” ?
  11. I personally never kept scarlet temple, but it makes me think of my situation with Crypts. I have tried multiple kinds of crypts from several different places and they just don’t do good in my water. Leaves grow and melt grow and melt. Some plants unfortunately don’t do good in certain water even with perfect water parameters.
  12. I had a bacterial bloom not to long ago on one of my newer aquariums. I added extra beneficial bacteria and it cleared it right up. The exact product I used was Evolution Aqua Pure Bio Balls. I put a few in the filter and crystal clear water in about a week or so. It’s fish, shrimp, snail, and plant safe.
  13. I would dose until you see around 20ppm. It might take a lot at 1st but once you get it up and the aquarium gets cycled and balanced you should only dose after water changes and top offs or when the plants soak it up and the nitrates drop back down. I like to dose everyday and keep my nitrates around 30-40ppm, but I have fast growing plants that can handle a higher nitrate load. Also great looking aquarium!
  14. I was going to say hornwort also! Valisneria might work if established and the roots are locked in place before putting the fish in.
  15. Water lettuce likes lots of nutrients, light, and low flow. When I 1st got my DWL it did the same thing. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep it happy, it didn’t last I had way to much flow in that aquarium. I was just pushing it all over the place. Palmer Aquatics has a few great videos on YouTube of DWL care.
  16. It’s a very nice looking shrimp tank. I agree with JoeQ I would get your nitrates up to around 20ppm.
  17. I have to trim my Lily every week because it’s just a beast. I cut the stems close as possible to the bulb and over time it’s getting busier and the growth is more compacted. I’d love to do a scape with all bulb plants.
  18. I posted a few weeks ago about my 1st Betta Ever. I never thought I’d love this fish so much. I can’t get over all it’s personalities and quirkiness! It kind of reminds me of my clown loaches and all their personalities, but the Betta is on another level. I wonder what other fish out there are water puppies?
  19. The bulbs I have the shoots always sprouted 1st I don’t know if that’s an exact science or not. I had shoots going into the sand substrate once and they were decent size. I felt horrible but everything was fine.
  20. Awesome pics! I see clown loaches all the time at petco and I know those poor fish are being sold like crazy. I have a very good LFS and he sells some larger fish but he has tons and tons of knowledge to share so you know what your buying when your buying it.
  21. I am obsessed with testing my water I test each of my aquariums multiple times a week mostly keeping an eye on nitrates for plants and hardness for shrimp and snails. I only use and like the Aquarium Co Op test strips. Every once in awhile I get a off color that stands out from the norm. I just test again and all is good, sometimes it happens where one block or strip is a dud.
  22. You can poke a hole in one end with a tac and hold underwater and push all the air out so it won’t float back up.
  23. @Guppysnailthats a great idea about the Kent’s liquid calcium in repashy. That’s why I love this forum so many gems in these posts. @GuppysnailCan you send me a link of the kent liquid calcium you get please?
  24. I got my purple mystery snail from Flip Aquatics I was very nervous to get him shipped, but he arrived super fast and healthy. I recommend their company for snails and shrimp.
  25. Your parameters sound great for mystery snails. Where do you buy your snails? Maybe try a different supplier. What temp is your aquarium?
