  1. I keep him well feed with pleco blocks. He also eats left over food from the Oscar in there. The tank is 125 gallons.
  2. I am thinking about putting Java moss on the rock carrins I have in my tank. But I have a common pleco and don't want him to eat them. I have seen on some other forms that if you give them enough food they won't bother it. Thoughts?
  3. I have a 36-gal bow front tank that has been running freshwater for over a year. I moved all the fish I had in there to a larger tank and want to convert this one into a saltwater tank. I know I am going to have to cycle and change things. I am making the assumption that the beneficial bacteria is a different type since it will have to thrive in saltwater vs fresh. Does anyone have any tips or advice on this transition? I have heard I also need to get rid of the substrate that I have in there too, which I thought was odd but I am up for it. Any advice is welcome. I am doing FWLR tank so no reefs or anything too complicated right now.
  4. Any idea on how you set it up with a power head?
  5. I am not sure with plants being in there. I have not had experience with that. But With no fish being in there, yes just leave it as the cycle moves on it will switch to nitrate. You want to have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and everything else in nitrate.
  6. Hey there my fellow Common Pleco pals! My pleco is about 10 " now and loves his 125 gallon tank. I am wondering if when you guys vacuum your tanks if you have found a vac that can actually suck up the dense poop they give out or if you end up scooping it out. I have tried several and some will start to go up and then fall back down eventually. I don't really have the water pressure for one to do that way. Any ideas? Links are so welcome!

  9. I would think so, just like any animal they have to learn out to survive in their environment domesticated or not.
  10. My thought is that 80 seems to high to have platys at. Higher temps like that lower oxygen levels in the water so make sure you have good gas exchange in the water is going to be key. Depending on how the aggression has been with mating it is possible that they were just to stressed out from that. The only other thing I can think of is if you changed the water recently or adding anything to the water that would change your water.
  11. I saw this when I was online to. It may be only for Prime day which ends tonight it is also only for Prime members.

  13. As Betta fish get older you can see some changes in pigments, where it is coming in around it's mouth in one photo I would think this is the case. The only other thing I can think of is black spot disease but I don't know if bettas can get that. Especially with you quarantining your fish and depending on what you treated them with. I would keep an eye on it but I feel like it is just aging.
  14. It is never fun when you have a sick fish and watching their health slowly decline. Api general cure doesn't kill your beneficial bacteria (see picture below) I think you are on the right track as far as what you have described. My guess would be some kind of swim bladder disorder. I attached a link with some ideas on what you can try. Swim bladder can be permanet and other times it can be correct. Either way the fish can still live a health life with some extra care. Best of luck to your little guy. https://www.petmd.com/fish/conditions/respiratory/swim-bladder-disorders-fish
  15. Here is my two cents on this and it's probably worth less then that. I think it may be your sponge filter. I have read online before that vibrating equipment can make it hard for this family of fish to breed. I wonder if it is something to do with the sponge filter somehow stressing him out. depending on the airflow it may also be causing to much turbulence for the bubbles to stay formed. The other thought is since the bubbles are formed from a mucus maybe some kind of issue with that?.
