Snake'y died this morning at around 10:45. He was buried underneath my potted lemon balm.

Hello everyone, I am here to update on Snake'y I put him back in his tank. He had normal behavior for a week and a half until recently in the past few days he became lethargic and eats little. (all the other fish are behaving normally) I usually need to tong feed him to ensure that he is eating something morning and evenings. He also mostly hang outs in a few spots while staying near or at the bottom. He is still able to go up for air and generally move around. I have also noticed that he developed a new patterned on one side of his body that is vertical dark perforated stripe. Unfortunately he may have grown a bit wider since our last post. The one positive is that his pit (on the right side of his face) seems to be reduced. However, I don't know if anything can be done for him, unless anyone has any suggestions? Plan to feed more (emerald entre) for now.

Hi Everyone, At the moment the parameters are Ph: 7.4-7.6 Ammonia: 0.25 (I squeezed out the bubble filters during a water change and tank cleaning today, so that might be the reason, keeping it conditioned) Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10-20 Gh: 200 Kh: 100 Temp: 76 F I have been monitoring my favorite fish (Snake'y) for the past month now and documenting his condition. I have not noticed any major behavior changes and he still seems to be behaving normally. He likes to swim against the window when I look like I am about to be him. Just less happy with me since I moved him into the hospital tank (30g) with two bubble filters. Originally I set up the hospital tank to treat a mild fin fungus problem when I noticed other problems. First I noticed a small hole or pit in the right side of his face and then I noticed some bulging in his torso over the course of late February-early March. Like one of his sensory pits was swelling for some reason or maybe a hole in head (Although I don’t think it is a hole in head). I am not sure what the deal with the pit is, I may have been an infection of a sensory pit or hole in head. Or something else my be going on. I fishless cycled the hospital tank for two weeks before the move and treated Snake’y with first salt (up to 3 tbsp per 5 gallons) and almond leaves, then Kanaplex (to cover potential bacterial and fungal issues) and then prazi-pro (to cover any parasitic issues) Meanwhile is mostly behaving normally. My fish is not lethargic nor staying in a single place for a long time. Although in the hospital tank there is a lot less to look at and do so he might be sitting around more. Though he still swims towards the class when he is excited for food. With the bulge on the left side of his body, I am not sure what to do next. There is one possibility that it is a tumor as a result of old age. I got Snake’y as a rescue from my local fish store years ago. So he may have been 1-1.5 years old when I got him, and I had him for 2.75 years at this point. Their average life span is stated at around 4 years in captivity and up to 6 with great care and presumably luck. I still have some general cure and fungus clear tabs I can try and have on hand. However, if it is a tumor there is no way to cure it. 😞 The focus then becomes to return him to his home and keep him happy. I do not have mystery snails, they would certainly be more charismatic than the trumpet snails that's in the tank.

Yes I have a black sand substrate, I do have wood. It found the gunk near the wood. I could be chewed bits that the pleco didn't consume. But I just don't know.

I was doing a tank cleaning and gravel vacuum when I found this. What is it. Is it fish eggs or related, I have a snakeskin gourami and some three spot gourami's and a bristle nose pleco.

They do have a piece of wood, its just underneath the plants, the underside and back side of the wood is free to much on. I also throw in bits of almond leaves for them to much on as well. I may be the case that there are too many shrimp. The day following of that night I found the oto resting in his resting spot so I become less worried. This night I saw the oto moving around the tank again while the shrimp were active again although less urgently as the other night. I think he is trying to get to the other tank next do which has tetras in it. Usually the oto likes to rest on those tubes or that Anubis leaf. Maybe part of the problem he doesn't have the best spots to sit and there are to many shrimp. I seen him eat sera algae bits that I press into the walls although usually he waits for it to fall to the floor before munching on it although I have not seen it very recently. I could be possible I am just watching his natural grazing behavior where he is exploring the edges of the tank looking for snacks. Here's a video ( )

That might explain the shrimp but I am wondering why my oto is surfing the tank walls where he is usually much less active and munching at the walls and substrate, but for some reason he looks like he's trying to get away? Hopefully the carbon takes care of the mystery stressor.

Ph 7.2-7.4 Nitrate: 0-15 Nitrite: 0 Ammonia: 0 Temp 74F-75F Gh 200 Kh 80-100 Phosphate: 1-2 I came home from work to find that my oto was swimming the tank walls and the shrimp were very active free swimming. So I did a diagnostic and found nothing out of the ordinary. So I looked for less common problems like tank smell and static electricity, I did not smell methane rot and grounded the tank. I added some conditioner like some fish protector, and a little pimafix for the smell. I put in some partially used back of activated carbon that I hung over the high flow. No change, when in doubt do a water change, so I changed 3 gallons of a 8-9 gallon setup. Waiting for things to calm down. Might do another water change in the morning. Could it be bacteria or plants leching something into the water that is making it unpleasant that is causing the little critters to act up? Any ideas? I usually feed emerald entre two to three times per week and pellet food and algae tablets for between days. I just thought for today maybe something different.

I am starting this topic on super market food in regards of what is safe for fish to eat. Is seafood ok for aquarium fish, does it matter if the sea food, shrimp or prawns is cooked, uncooked (steamed). Or whether the product have preservatives is it ok to give it as a once in a while treat? (like a small bit of shrimp for gouramis and tetras) I saw fish for though short feeding bits of shrimp/prawn to his fish. I am looking for clarification on topic?

I have a question, I have two kuhli Loaches in the tank and I was raising the salinity levels in stages, would salt of around current 10 tbsp in a 45 gallon tank (around 4 gallons per tablespoon) negatively effect them as they are a scaleless fish?

I think it's due to the geometry of the tank because that is the back wall with black background so there's nothing to see so they tilt themselves to look at the surface. They don't tilt themselves in other spots of the tank.

Although it looks like if faded 30 mins to a hour since feeding this morning. I have kanaplex on hand, with one of my plans is to isolate the fish in a hospital net and feed medicated food with Colu's feeding instructions. The fish is behaving normally otherwise, eating regularly, hanging out with the school in their normal locations with no other problems detected. Do you think this is septicemia or is it something else?
