That’s an awesome tank! Spongebob makes it even better

Nice tank. How big is it? id like a cichlid tank… one day… when I have the space 🙂
-
Temp (78) and pH (about neutral- hard for me to read super accurately with API kit) seem normal and not different. The tank with my plants seems to be able to hold the bioload fine, but it might be a bit crowded driving them to jump? I also went out of town and left the light off for 3 days… who knows. natural selection at work?

I wondered that too, but this thing looked like it hadn’t been injured or anything. Not a good week for my tank - found a green neon Rasbora jumper on the floor 😕 I have a lid on there too… but there’s a few holes for the hang on back and for the heater cable they must have gotten through. Water conditions seem ok (no ammonia or nitrite, 20-30 ppm nitrate), no odd acting fish that are still there

I found a dead amano shrimp 3 rooms away from my fish tank. I’m utterly beyond belief it could ever walk that far even if it escaped Has anyone ever seen this??

Amano shrimp molting right after added to tank?
Pizzafan replied to Pizzafan's topic in General Discussion
Thanks! Good to know! I don’t have any experience with shrimp -
I added some amanos to try and help my algae growth - within a couple days of adding to my tank at least 3 have either molted or died. Looks like just the shell remains, I don’t see anything else, so I assumed they molted and didn’t die. The other few are doing just fine, busy eating at my driftwood and algae covered plants. Is this normal behavior immediately after going into a new tank?

I think Kuhli loaches live like 10 years

Well… looked to order more green neons today and looks like they are gone! Will just be patient 🙂
-
Haha yes, I would order off aqua huna - I cannot find them near me in stores or anything that small that interests me. Seems they haven’t carried the chili Rasboras in a while…

Hi all, I’m currently thinking of getting another pack of 8 neon green Rasboras to go with the 8 I already have- they are so cool I imagine it will only be better with more. My tank is quite stable but wondering if this is starting to sound like too much 20 long heavily planted with: 8 neon green rasboras 4 Kuhli loaches 2 rogue zebra danios 1 Bolivian ram 1 black lyretail molly I think my tank can handle the slight added bioload (pretty much never see ammonia or nitrites, nitrates kept <20 ppm with the plants and a semi weekly 30% water change). Any thoughts? One other option I’m holding out for is to add chili Rasboras, but I can’t seem to find them! Any other suggestions along these lines?

That’s a cool fish anyway!

Api root tabs and sudden high nitrates?
Pizzafan replied to PattysAquatics's topic in General Discussion
This happened to me a while back. A bunch leached out of the substrate when I didn’t bury it deep enough and my ammonia and nitrites spiked. Ended up vaccing it all out and gave up on adding junk to the aquarium -

Agreed on do nothing, it will work itself out 🙂

I will try then! Anything to worry about with safety for fish or snails?

My tank is super stable in terms of parameters and all fish are thriving, but this algae is beginning to be a bit much for me to look at. I also find it hard to efficiently remove manually. Has anyone had any luck using the liquid CO2 additives? I prefer not to add too many chemicals in general, but would love to cure this overgrowth!

Water Conditioner - ammonia, nitrite, nitrate
Pizzafan replied to CalmedByFish's topic in General Discussion
This sounds like marketing garbage to me 😄 I am a chemist by profession, and there needs to be an understood mechanism for this detoxification or “binding” to ammonia that they do not provide. -
That tank looks awesome!!

I bought 2 bulbs from petco for $4. One was a complete dud that just got moldy in my tank. The other one exploded after about a week. The foreground lily was an offshoot I cut off that seems to still be growing (albeit slower than the ones attached to the bulb). This is 2-3 months since I bought it so they grow fast!
