  1. Another question from the newbie... I purchased a 75 gal Aqueon tank from Petco as their $1 a gallon is sale is going on. I am not trying to get the cheapest or most expensive items to set up my tank but, after inspecting this tank further I am wondering if I should spend more than $100 on this size of tank. Here are a couple questions and concerns... Picture #1 - Why is this glop of silicone like this under each corner of the rim of the tank, and can I remove it? Not sure if its because this tank is mass produced or if provides a function. Picture #2 - The silicone is oozing out of where the glass meets on the outside edge of the tank. Can I razor blade the bead of silicone flush with the glass? Picture #3 - This wide silicone smear on the inside corner - is this going to look terrible when the tank is full of water or will it disappear? Picture #4 - A few silicone edges inside the tank were not feathered out. Will this thick edge be prone lifting or lead to a future leak? Can you razor blade that off to where the silicone was feathered out? Thank you again!!
  2. Good to know! I hate the sound of water splashing into the tank so a HOB was my last choice. I was going to go with a canister - but after watching many videos of Cory explaining why they shouldn’t be your go to it finally sunk in. And then I was reading the Aquaclear tops rattle. 🤪🤪 I major in the details of life so setting up my 1st aquarium is taking a bit of time to work through alllll the options!
  3. Thank you for the feedback! I am excited about the Angels 😃
  4. Thank you! I don't have experience with the flow of each size HOB so that is some good info.
  5. @Nick L I have been reading up on the tidal filters and I am really considering that brand! I am a little concerned however w/ the built in skimmer as I want to add in livebearers and wonder if that would be problematic for the fry. Any thoughts or experience?
  6. Thank you for the feedback @gardenman Would love to get more input from others as well! TIA
  7. Would love to get your opinion on size of HOB to use for a 75 gal planted tank. I’m leaning towards angels and some other small schooling fish to fill in. Would you use 2 55’s or a 110? (Or maybe a 75 is enough??) I am planning on adding a sponge filter or 2 as well. Or maybe I don’t need the sponge filter?? But I like the idea of having one in-case I need to set up a hospital tank I will have something ready to go. Also, where do you like to place the filter?? At one end or in the middle of the tank? Thanks so much!
  8. I could snap a picture and post here...but I am not sure that's what you are looking for.

  10. @Mario V. I’m on the hunt for a stand. Can you tell me what you went with?? Thanks so much!
  11. I am looking at getting a 75 gal glass tank in the next month or so. This would be my 2nd tank - my 1st one a 15 gal just completed its cycle. Is this going to be too big of a jump for a newbie? I don't know if bigger means I need more experience. I was going to go with a glass tank, and regardless of the size I end up with I am wondering if I need to do anything additional to the bare tank before I add water to it. (e.g., reinforce w/ additional silicone) I jumped in blind to my child's 15 gal 😆 and I want to make sure I set this larger tank up correctly from the start. And lastly a question about stands. I realize if I go with a 75 gal the total weight of the tank could be close to 900 lbs. What are your favorite types of stands to use? I want something that is furniture quality as the tank will be in my front room with my piano. Do I have to you use an official aquarium stand? If I want to buy a piece of quality furniture, (not Ikea stye) what should I look for to make sure it will hold all the weight? Thank you fish friends!
  12. Hello there! I recently got my son a fish tank for his birthday - and since then found Aquarium Co-Op and have been obsessed with this hobby! One day I would love to feel educated enough to recreate and keep a gorgeous tank filled with guppies just like the tank @Dean’s Fishroom let @Lizzie Block put together. Is there a thread for newbies such as myself that I can read through? I am looking for all the info! Maybe a video series like fish keeping 101? I am also interested in info on the pro/cons of glass tanks vs acrylic & brand recomendations. The different ways to filter a tank, why you would use one vs another and brand recommendations. There are so many basics to fish keeping I want to learn as much as I can before I attempt more than my sons 15 gal tank! Thank you!
