    back in the day , one of my gar was a pretty good puppy. you could reach in, pet him, move him around. he didnt much like it if you tried to pick him up out of the water though. then everything got wet.

    probably 1-2 days away. usually the rear of the abdomen will square off a bit more right before they pop. first time is the coolest. be prepared, once they start having them, they dont stop!🤪

    there are snail poisons, they usually contain copper sulfide, but another way to go is to feed a bit less, and get a couple of assassin snails.

    im pretty much anti bleach for anything that may ever come in contact with my aquarium. like above, my tap water has a miniscule amount of chlorine in it, but there's no way im adding to that.

    welcome to the forum. as for how high the water should be, thats personal preference. i like them maybe 1/2" down, others run them 1 or 2" down. its all whatever looks good to you.

    ill add on to this. though a manufacturer states to replace ceramic media every six months, there is no reason to do so. they tell you to replace, simply so that they can sell you more. ceramic media gives a place for bacteria to grow, it doesnt get used up. im not much of a ceramic media person, but if you have it, use it.

    an air stone is great to keep water oxygenated, and moving in the tank. ideally, if your filter failed, you would still have enough beneficial bacteria in your substrate, on the glass, and on plants, and decor that a filter failure in and of itself will not crash your tank.

    id start with a good straight edge to check whats flat and what isnt. only way to know if its the stand, or the tank. from the pictures, it sure looks like the frame of the tank is the problem, but the eyeball mk1 isnt always accurate.

    with a nicely planted tank, the fish will find things to nibble on. i would have your friend stop by and feed 3x in that 12 days. pre package the amount for them, so they cant way over feed them.

    i try not to mess with mixing things, as it adds variables. i tend to set up a tank, and just roll with it. if you have hard water, start with that in mind, but dont hesitate to experiment, as despite what many say there are many things folks say wont work in hard water or soft water, that cross over just fine.
