Hello everyone, I am just about to get two 75 gallon tanks up and running and I have a question about how many sponge filters to run in each tank. I was thinking two of Aquarium Coop's large size sponge filters. I decided on this number because the large filters are rated for 40 gallons, so I figured two would cover a 75g. On a related note, do you think the nano airpumps the COOP sells are powerful enough to power the large size sponge filter? Thanks for any advice/help you all can provide on what are probably noob questions.

I hear ya. It’s funny though, where I live in the Deep South 65% humidity, and frequently above, is common for most of the year.

Hey everyone, When is it time to add a dehumidifier? I currently have a 29g, a 55g, and a 10g. I do not run a dehumidifier and have no moisture/mold problems. However, I am planning to add two 75g to my collection. Should I put a dehumidifier in the room at this point? I will say that I live in the deep South and we have crazy high humidity for most of the year. Again though, no mold problems thus far.

Cory, thanks for the excellent advice. The plants are actually four years old or so. Also, thanks for the general advice about root tabs.

Hey everyone, My Amazon Swords were not looking too good, so a few weeks ago I gave each of them a single root tab. I am seeing a bit of a rejuvenation but not as much as I would like. Should I wait a while before using more root tabs or go ahead and provide the Amazon Swords with more root tabs now? I used Flourish tabs.

Nick, How old is your RES? Mine is 14 almost 15.

Yes, I know. But I was wondering if anyone has pictures or places I can view pictures of these habitats.

Hello everyone, I'm looking to set up a 75g swordtail biotope, does anyone have any pictures I can look at, or know of any resources I can view? I've looked long and far but can't seem to find anything. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place.

What are YOUR experiences on selling fish to your LFS?
umfalcon replied to wendypizza's topic in General Discussion
My local fish store will take the swordtails I raise. However, unless I ask for store credit, or a trade for a product similar in price (food, dechlorinator, etc.) the owner won't give me anything. He's a friendly, nice man, but will also take fish off your hands without giving you anything in return. Which just goes to show have some confidence and ask for store credit. I know that profit margins are razor thin so I don't ask for much, but I want a little something in return. -
Oh, follow up question, how many 20 gallon longs would the cinder block rack hold?
-
Hey everyone, I'm building a fish rack using Cory's cinder block and 2x4 method. I know that I can fight eight 20 gallon talls, or four 55 gallon aquariums on the rack. Does anyone know how many ten gallons it could hold?
-
Hello everyone, I plan on building a rack using Cory's system of cinder blocks and ten foot two by fours. I am only going to build this rack (as it is going into a spare bedroom space is limited). At first I thought about using a linear piston air pump and pvc to power my sponge filters, but the pump is pretty expensive for just eight tanks. Should I go ahead and buy a linear piston air pump or just use eight individual air pumps? I apologize for what are probably beginner questions, but this is my first time expanding to this scale and I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I'd rather people who have done it before advise me.

Ken and Cory, Thanks for the fantastic suggestions. I think both ideas are super helpful. I have a follow-up question related to the rack. I plan on building only this rack (as it is going into a spare bedroom). At first I thought about using a linear piston air pump and pvc to power my sponge filters, but the pump is pretty expensive for just eight tanks. Should I go ahead and buy a linear piston air pump or just use eight individual air pumps? Sounds pretty fair. Have you priced out how much it would cost to buy all of this new?- 8 replies

hey everyone, I'm building a rack using Cory's system of cinder blocks and 10 foot long two x fours. I plan on having eight twenty-gallon tall aquariums on the rack. Does anybody have suggestions to cheaply light this rack and how to mount the lights on this rack system? Thanks everyone!
