    I had a HOB(with intake sponge) before with the neon tetras I think the suction ) was to much. I switched to a sponge filter with the betta.

    I got this betta for a 5.5 gallon 4 weeks after 5 neon tetras passed away in the same tank. It is laying on the bottom but comes up for food or when you tap on glass. This started today I got this betta 1 week ago from my lfs. The temp is 78-80 ph 7.6/7.88 ammonia 0

    That’s what I thought but when I went on the Coops site on the lighting guide said that I should use the 24 to 34 inch light.

    I’m not sure what size of a 3.0 to use for 40 breeder as there is one size that goes to 34 inches and one size that goes from 36 inches to 48 inches.

    Welcome! Definitely recommend live plants, no one can fully prevent snail eggs so you may have to be their remover. An airstone or bubbler is not necessary to keep plants. I recommend eco complete for a nutrient infused substrate but gravel works, fertilizers are not required for easy plants but all plants will appreciate it.
