So I know I just posted this, but I also just found out what exactly was wrong with my plants. They’re suffering from biogenic decalcification. Basically there is an imbalance of light and co2. The light levels are telling them they should be able to grow at a certain rate but there’s not enough co2 for them to grow that fast. So they take in bicarbonate and break that apart into co2 and hydrogen peroxide. This gives them the co2 they need, but the hydrogen peroxide released reacts with calcium in the water to form calcium carbonate, which are the deposits that are on my plants. So either decreasing light exposure or increasing available co2 is how to fix this. This video explains all of this and more, but figured I’d give a tldr for anyone interested.

There’s these weird white dots all over my Val that’s almost chalky when I rub them with my finger. I know they aren’t snail eggs, and I’m hoping someone has encountered this before. Thanks for any help!

I’ve linked a couple pictures below. This is in just a Tun that I originally had some snails and plants in that I collected in a swamp. It came with some leech hitchhikers as well. It’s been set up for a year now, and I haven’t touched it or even looked at it in 6 months. Never had fish in it. The snails eventually all got eaten by the leeches, the plants didn’t do so great and now it’s just an algae field. As far as I was aware after the snails died out the leeches were only a couple weeks behind them, now they couldve survive on copepods or these worm things, but irregardless these worms are completely different than the leeches and don’t move at all like leeches. Was just curious if anyone was able to identify what these worms were or point me in the right direction besides general worm. i kinda live by having as many organisms in each of my tanks as possible, so my main reason for finding out what these are, besides just pure curiosity is also wanting to know if I can add them to my other tanks or not

I know about the whole 1 puffer per 3 gallon thing, but I was wondering if just for quarantine while treating with the med trio I could put 6 pea puffers in a 10 gallon, or if they’d kill eachother and need to be separated. I could always move some of them to their tank they’re gonna go in, but still was just wanting second opinions.

So there’s a small crack in my 10 gallon, that’s completely covered by the silicone. I’ve only just put water on it now for 5 minutes so idk if it’ll actually leak or not. But do you think this tank would be ok to use? I’d probably just use it for a quarantine tank now so that way it’s not constantly set up but idk if that would be ok even or if it’d be likely to break, thanks for any advice

How do you crush the snails?

they’re definitely seed shrimp/ostracods. They aren’t harmful, water mites don’t swim around like that, and daphnia and copepods have a more jerky motion of swimming plus look differently. I can say with an almost 99% guarantee they’re some species of seed shrimp

It starts at 6:07, but basically it’s a power head connected to a python hose and hook, and he siphons into a bucket that has a power head in it, and then uses a 35 gallon trash can to refill using the power head

So was wondering how everyone has made water changes easy, specifically those of you without auto water change. Ik Cory did a live stream where he mentioned his system, and was wondering if the new coop power head would work as a replacement for the power head he mentions in this video hoping to make it as easy as possible as having 7 tanks it’s kinda difficult now lol

Anyone gotten this filter yet and any reviews? I just saw it at petsmart today and it intrigues me especially with the so called protein skimmer on it altho I don’t necessarily see how that’d work with my limited knowledge on protein skimmers. Just curious about it.

Just got four 40 breeders bc petco has their 50% off sale. Looking forward to filling these guys up and already got plans for all of them, just the process of getting lights and filters and stuff now. Gonna put Multis in one and do saltwater in another, guppies in one and the last one I’m not entirely sure.

Man 1 hour is super long tho, I feel like it should be shortened up to like 15 or 20 minutes, like I’m sure if someone really wanted to and took this super seriously they could probably eat 50 tacos in one hour, if not more, idk how much the human stomach can hold

Yeah I don’t think I necessarily want to keep the frogs out, they wouldn’t be able to eat adults or juveniles even, probably could eat fry but so will the juvenile white clouds, I’ve decided I’m gonna put them in and see if the fry can survive

Yeah lol that’s what I mean, can the white clouds breed in the presence of the tadpoles not actually with them haha

Was going to put my white clouds in a pond I got outside when I noticed a whole bunch of tadpoles in it, I’ve got some nice moss growth in this pond and its got green water so it’ll be really great, but was wondering if the white clouds would be able to breed with the tadpoles or not, this is a smaller frog species I’ve seen before that only get about an inch long as adults so the tadpoles don’t have huge mouths or anything

So, I think there is some link to being financially charged, but I think the main thing with ugf is that if it ever stops or you need or want to take it out at some point you gotta tear apart your whole tank, plus as the hobby has moved towards planted tanks under gravel filters are even harder to tear your aquarium apart and also all the roots decrease the effectiveness of the filter

You might be able to take like a super fine pantyhose and put that around a net, bc I was trying to use it for something else where I wanted the water to flow thru but I found it didnt really do that great at it, however I'm sure itd serve your purpose great, it just would probably be a little difficult to maneuver around the water to catch the puffers
