  1. Look up “coarse filter foam” on amazon Look for ones where its kind of transparent in the pictures. Super important^
  2. @AdamS If the issue you’re talking about is transferring disease, parasites, etc., I don’t know, but I think risk is low. Also, I transfer fish/plants between tanks pretty regularly and I think even that has minimal risk. I’m going to order a green killing machine.
  3. Did you do a water change to get the 1ppm ammonia out?
  4. 4. is actually the most likely. All the other would have only caused a very temporary spike.
  5. How often are you changing your cartridge? Do you have media other than the cartridge? with 1ppm ammonia, I would expect the fish to show some symptoms of ammonia burn, etc. Are you seeing any? If you have 1ppm do an urgent large (at least 70%) water change and stop feeding for a few days.
  6. So, summer is here and unfortunately (for my tanks) that means more sun exposure. There is a large window in the room with the tanks and I always grow green water in the spring/summer. Previously, I’ve just let it run its course since it tends to go away in the fall, but this year I don’t want to deal with it. What UV sterilizer would you recommend? Current, 2/3 tank are affected so ideally it would be something which is easily transferable. I know fluval makes an inline one, but it is expensive and I only have a canister filter on one tank so I could only use it on that one. Tank sizes are 10-25 gallons. Thanks!
  7. What about a vivarium for mourning geckos? I think 10 gallons might be enough if you make it verticle. you could do pea puffers
  8. The green neons would mostly likely be eaten at some point… Maybe a bit larger tetra, like royal tetra would fit in better
  9. Same here. It’s been my “duckweed”. When I got rid of it while rescaping a tank I probably gave 200+ bits away
  10. I don’t think dwarf sagitaria will grow low like the other two unless under high light. When I had it, it covered the whole tank quickly so that shouldn’t be a problem.
  11. I have them on light substrate and if I were to do it again I would use black sand. I don’t think it matters all that much to the fish, but I think they would stand out better on dark substrate.
  12. What are you trying to feed him?
  13. Or he has chloramines and he using a dechlorinator that doesn’t do ammonia
  14. Still wondering how much food. Video of you feeding would be very helpful. someone probably already asked these but: what dechlorinator do you use? what does ammonia read out of the tap?
  15. How old is the tank? what and when and how much do you feed? Do you know the pH when you set it up vs. the pH now?
  16. What about now?
  17. When i first saw that I thought it had a piece of a neon tetra in its mouth… glad its just a fly
  18. I always thought of an Ammonia spike as something that lasted a few days tops, but it seems like this had been going on for a month or more. It seems like there could be some other underlying problem. Post a picture of your normal feeding amount. Could your test kit be expired? Are you following the instructions as best you can? How did you cycle your tank? How did you decide your cycle was completed?
  19. Salt probably won’t help. Glass catfish are scale less and might be more sensitive than other fish. When you feed it are you able to see it eat?
  20. Just so you know, typically kit lights, especially the petco/petsmart ones are way underpowered and wouldn’t be considered high light. What kinds of filtration do you have? I tried floating plants (duckweed, RRF, DWL,) but they died, and I think it was because they were always getting stuck under the Hob and getting showered.
  21. I think meyer hatchery in ohio might sell these. Never had this specific breed but have had good experience with meyers. They only sell day old chicks though, not eggs.
  22. Good idea unless the 10 gallon has fish in it, then I would be concerned about way too much flow. also the intake tube might be too long
