  1. A group of male endlers Sparkling gourami Maybe licorice gourami or a wild betta
  2. You could try to consolidate all your fish into as few tanks as possible, move the tanks that you emptied in a moving van, get those setup at your new house and then drive the rest of your tanks and your fish when you make the drive. This would be easier if your tanks are lightly stocked and if you have small fish.
  3. I have A. panduro and so far I have had them kill beckford’s pencilfish, guppies, endlers, and nipped honey gourami and took off one of their fins. The guppies are too large to completely be eaten by an apisto but they tear off their fins and then they die. Granted, I have been told A. panduro are one of the more agressive species and all this happened in 20 gallon tanks, not 55s. If you want to try it get one or the more peaceful species like A. borellii, and only get a male, not females. The only thing I have to say about Kuhlis is apistos don’t like other bottom dwellers and would probably beat them up over time, although they are very fast. Overall they are a pretty simple fish to keep as long as you understand they hide most of the time unless in a very large group. I have 5 now but I used to have 8 and even then I only saw 2-3 at a time. I’m pretty sure I have 5 left because I moved them a few months ago. I have never had rams so I couldn’t tell you. I expected the apistos to be peaceful but later I went on an apisto specific forum and they said that my apistos behavior was basically the norm.
  4. I have the fluval 107 on my 20 high. It’s really quiet and overall really sleek to have it in the stand. Its just kind of a pain to clean and I always manage to drip some water in stand.
  5. He had said in his original post that he wanted pearl gourami and kuhli loaches. I think blue gourami and apistogramma are too aggressive to go with guppies.
  6. Pearl Gourami are a great option in that sized tank. I would do 3-6. I have kuhli loaches, they are great but very shy. I would get atleast 12 so that hopefully they come out for you. If you go with the kuhli loaches don’t get a ram or apistogramma, espeicially a pair, as they will be too territorial. Apistogramma are more agressive than people think and in my experience, won’t hesitate to obliterate a guppy. Generally guppys and platys wouldn’t be compatible with that setup because they like hard water and apistos like soft water, although its definetely possible. Also they are more central american than south american.
  7. I asked the same ID question as above on another forum and I didn't get a conclusive answer but I did get an idea. This website: https://tomc.no has tons of information on Apistogramma, copellas, pencilfishes, tetras, and other dwarf cichlids. Based on this website I think it could be either C. meinkeni or Copella callolepis (sensu Zarske) nattereri (sensu Marinho). Right now I am leaning towards Copella callolepis (sensu Zarske) nattereri (sensu Marinho).: The female looks like this one: C. meinkeni The website has C. meinkeni looking like the one above but google has it looking like the one below: Finally mine: Pardon the cloudy water, this was just after a water change. What do you think? Right now I am leaning towards Copella callolepis (sensu Zarske) nattereri (sensu Marinho).: Thanks for reading!
  8. I did a waterchange today on the 25 gallon cube. I went through with the API master test kit for a while. Usually I use ACO strips but I have trouble distinguishing between pH, kH, and gH values since the colors are so close so I mostly just use it to test for nitrates. Anyway my pH used to be 8.2 (a year ago) but now it has dropped to 7.6~7.8 in both tanks oddly even though I just did a water change last week. I know my kH is high but my gH is low. I also discovered ZERO nitrates in both tanks. I got some wisteria a month ago and I think that caused it because it was growing well but now its showing sign of deficiencies like you can see below: The wisteria in the other tank looks like this too. I think I am going to need to start using ferts. Whole tank shot: The amazon sword has been growing a lot recently, as have the luminatus. Thanks for reading!
  9. A school of tetras is probably the safe choice because the keyholes and acara could possibly fight. You could also go with hatchetfish or some kind of headstander.
  10. As long as it continues to change the first time to see how far it goes. In the future you would probably be fine to wait until it is with .5 of the tank water
  11. Does it continue rising after 24 hours?
  12. agree, its mulm do you have a pleco/catfish which is eating driftwood?
  13. Recently, the splash tetra have become aggressive between themselves and against the rasbora. The dominant male is the only one being agressive. I think the issue is that I have 2 males and only one female. The dominant male picks on the smaller male and the smaller male hides behind the heater all day. My first question: how bad would it be to put the bullied male in another tank by itself (with other community species) at least temporarily? I want to get more to get more of the splash tetra but I am not confident in what species they are. The store had them labeled as “Arnoldi Splash Tetra”, but they don’t look like what I have seen on google. The closest I have found is copella natteri and copella sp. barcelos. Can anyone tell me what these are? If so, where can I get more? Male: Female: Thanks!
  14. I want to add a disclaimer -- doing stuff to grow algae won't necessarily mean you get the type of algae you want. You could get nice looking dust or hair algae on the wood, but it could just as easy go with ugly diatoms, green water, black beard algae (you might like this), and it will probably cover the glass before it gets to the hardscape.
  15. If your light is adjustable turn up the blue
  16. I looked up pictures of the ajamaruensis and I think it could be them because they have the lateral line the boesmania don’t usually have and they have a bluish grey front and orange back.
  17. the lateral line makes me think of m. ajamuruensis, could also be m. boesmani
  18. If you ordered the filters from aquarium co-op this won't be an issue. If your sponge filters have a weighted base or they feel heavy in your hand this won't be an issue. One you have them at the bottom they will be fine.
  19. Other than nitrites, the pH and hardness should be higher for mollies. With low pH and soft water mollies are prone to diseases.
  20. We had 98.7% totality here in SE michigan. It was kind of cool but I honestly expected it to be a lot darker. I had friends who went to the Ohio border where there was basically 100% totality and they said it was pretty cool. Got really dark and crickets came out and stuff.
  21. It's only been a few days of being set up, but I originally set it up with it low at the front sloping up toward the back. That pile and crater you see in the 2nd picture was the Apistogramma doing their own aquascaping.
  22. I will let them know you love their scaping
  23. This is true, I was wondering if the reason that they are not affiliated is because Aqua Huna would compete with the co-op for selling the plants and maybe gravel.
