CorydorasEthan
A new shot of one of the pygmy cories swimming midwater. I saw the whole school hovering like this just yesterday, but there was too much reflection to get a good shot.
Yanni
I currently have 3 types of corys in my "fish room." I have long fin panda corys, orange venezulan corydoras, and snowhite corydoras. 2

When mine swim they usually swim in a pack; like a little army moving forward....

This one and another (I think it's a boy/girl pair) always swim together or separately midwater foraging or exploring or something while the others are resting or hiding.

I know my sterbai don't pair off - when a female is ready to lay eggs every male in the tank follows her to 'help out'. Do pygmy pair off ? I haven't seen pairing off in the pygmy cories yet, but I have seen it with the albinos, bronzes, and peppers in the same aquarium. Additionally, the otos in the tank seem to follow the same behaviors among themselves, with a male following a female. I will keep an eye on the pygmy cories though! Not neccessarily because I will win (I probably don't stand a chance in those professional contests), but because he wants me to participate in a competition that I will actually enjoy (my older sister does History day and my parents wanted me to do it I had to do it this year but I didn't like it too much), and he thinks it would be cool if I made an ecosystem of the creek near our home. Once I am finished with the biotope, I release the fish into the wild, meaning I probably get to keep the aquarium and turn it into the planted corydoras-livebearer-tetra community I have been hoping for. Maybe I should go with your suggestion instead by looking for a 40 gallon breeder, although this may be a bit harder to find, I think it would be well worth it (I've seen a couple at PetCo during dollar per gallon sales, so maybe that will work). Plus, it takes up less room, so my parents would be more into letting me get a new tank! Thanks for the advice! Not sure if you've gotten a tank yey, yet, the advice I've heard is it's easier to scape a 40 breeder due to the larger width and shallow depth. I've never had a 55, but I love my 40 breeder. Some pictures of my tank and the sterbai cories in it.

Additionally, I don't think I will be able to keep the tank anymore after I do use it. But we will just have to see. Anyways, great looking tank you got there! I really like the setup. I will keep this advice in mind when I do eventually get the aquarium. Thanks!

Also, what kinds of fish do you have in there? Thanks.

ChemBob
@CorydorasEthan the plant in the back right is water wisteria. Back left is Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus. Center back is Cryptocoryne spiralis and retrospiralis. Several varieties of Cryptocoryne wendtii in front and Anubius on the wood. A few other crypts in there as well. Plus the black beard algae that seems to be hanging out on my spiderwood. 4 Bolivian Rams 8 marble hatchet fish Unkown number of Beckfords pencilfish. 3 of these guys were first in and have spawned a few times. I am up to at least 6, probably more. I had 2 red lizard whiptail catfish, but I have only seen 1 at a time for quite a while, so I think one passed somewhere I didn't notice unfortunately. This guy is out quite a bit though. I also have tiger stripe chopstick snails, pond and/or bladder snails, and a handful of nerite snails. I also had a dozen amano shrimp im there at some point. I still have some, no idea how many are still running around.
Odd Duck
On your whiptails,I know they are good at hiding. You might be alternately seeing each one. I worried for almost 2 weeks thinking that one of my young lemon drop bristle noses I added to my 100 gallon had passed away. 2 weeks. Then I FINALLY saw both at the same time. I also thought I had lost most of the otos I had added to a 20 long since I only saw one for the longest time, weeeeeeks! Then I saw 2. Then I saw 5! Very heavily planted tank. Who knows how many are in there! They could be breeding in there for all I know! 😆
