I thought this might be the case. I lost some juvenile Rummy Nose tetras to predation last year. 
I might try a slightly larger type of tetra or a few Cory Catfish. Mystery Snails would also work. I think they’re super fun and they get lots of love on this forum.

I had a male betta and a school of neons they did fine.  It entirely depends on the individual bettas personality.  He left my shrimp and bladder snails alone too.
