@James Black plays with his betta with a laser pointer, much like a cat would.

You can also put a mirror by their tank for a few minutes a day, and they'll flare and show off at their reflection.

Here is a video of my betta chasing a laser pointer:

First of all, NEVER feed a betta human food. Its just wrong. Second of all, you don't HAVE to get tankmates, because it would be a waste if your betta keeps eating them. And what do you mean by plastic toys? If the toy is sharp on the edges it would tear your betta's fins, getting silk plants could also work. If you don't have access to betta toys from your local LFS or pet store, you can also add driftwood to your tank if your male betta is bored. I'm pretty sure that there is an amazon web meant for china. You could also buy the following items. The first link is a zoo med floating betta log. The second link is hikari tropical betta pellets that are good for your betta, as the pellets are very nutritious. The third link is the zoo med betta hammock that is basically a leaf, but if your betta likes it, it could be its own "betta bed". Some males will even build bubble nests on them!

You can use a table tennis 🏓 ball some bettas will play with them. Any plastic toys need to be soft, no hard edges that could injure the betta.

Some people put decorations like castles or houses that make a cave to help them feel safe, like their home. Silk plants are nice beythey are soft and the bettas like to lay on them. Moss balls are good if you can get them. You’ll have to experiment. Each betta has a different personality. Yours seems aggressive in that he’s eating his tank mates.

You can feed them mosquito larva - from my experiences in China 🇨🇳 if you put a small container of water outside you may get some mosquito larvae to give him a treat.

Your betta has a nice looking tank!

I would also recommend the laser pointer. And no, they won’t turn things to vapor. Some really strong lasers can burn you or damage your eyes, but we are talking about the really weak ones.

Search for laser pointers for cats and you will find the right ones. Here’s one example.

This link is to Alibaba—maybe you can access it?

As for treats, I agree that mosquito larvae would be good. My fish love it!

First of all, my Betta could only catch the neon tetra with swim bladder disease and was almost dead. The others are too quick for her, but she still tries to eat them. Second, she isn't as active as she was before the neon tetras came, and they aren't eating the algae or fin nipping.

Do mosquitoes and they're larvae fly into water?

Mosquitos lay eggs in water. Those eggs turn into larvae. They are gross wiggly things but fish think they’re the tastiest. If they don’t get eaten by a fish, the larvae will make a cocoon and turn into a mosquito. Like butterflies but not as pretty! 😆

Are moss balls plants or animals?

They’e plants.

Maybe she’s tired from chasing them.

I don’t think neon tetras will eat much algae. They will eat pellets or flake food like the betta.

So some of the neon tetras are still alive? I would recommend getting more plants so they can hide from the betta.

I’m glad they aren’t fin nipping. Keep an eye on them at night because sometimes tetras will nip a betta’s fins when it’s sleeping.
