  1. I’d say a Bolivian would be a great beginner cichlid (about to purchase a group for myself) maybe hold off from the German blues who can be a bit more finicky. as far as the water changes that’s a misleading number. The way I set my tanks up is to only have to change water around once or twice a month at most. It’s all about your tanks ability to process excess nutrients. So in heavily planted tanks with low levels of stocking you may not need to change as much. Thats where testing your water come in handy to get an idea when to change if that makes sense. I generally test my water every Sunday and if I notice a level too high I’ll change other wise I won’t. Everyone does this a bit differently but that’s worked for me for the past few years.
  2. Best thing I was told when I first started out was to be patient. There will be a lot of ups and downs but if ya stick with it you can enjoy one of the best hobbies out there!
  3. The scraper blade attachment for the mag floats makes them work alotttttt better. But an old gift card is still the most effective way.
  4. My first fish tank was actually a 29 with an angel in it. And as a complete noob I put him in there with some neons and safe to say eventually all of neons ended as a snack. Personally, I'd look to another center piece fish if you want to keep some of the smaller schooling fish with it. As far as temps go i kept the tank at 70 degrees and never had an issue. I know that's a bit lower than the internet says but it kept the aggression down between the angel and the other fish. (Except the neons lol). A cool substitute could be a pearl gourami, or possibly some honey gourami's. With that tank id love some south American dwarf cichlids personally. Some Bolivian Rams or Appistos could look great in there. Or maybe a Nanacara Anomala would be a good slightly less common fish that could look great in there.
  5. Same here! it felt weird ordering plants other and low light plants now that I have the coop light. A whole new world awaits.
  6. Khuli loaches. Can put 100 in a 5 gal and it would look empty ha!
  7. My shrimp always seem to gravitate to my anubias plants in my tank. Crypts would also be a good bet.
  8. Fair enough haha It’s done really well for me when when I’ve loaded the substrate with root tabs but good luck if you try it again!
  9. Some dwarf chain sword could be pretty good option.
  10. So jealous of everyone who get to call this their LFS!!
  11. I’d guess they will eat the fry right up. Cant say this for certain but especially since they were removed from the fry at first, when re introduced they will see them as a tasty snack.
  12. I love the apontogetons but they never seem to handle shipping well. Always seem to completely die off for me then regrow. But when regrown they are awesome!!
  13. The coop heater could be a nice alternative to the tube one aswell. With its black coloration and different shape it’s easier imo to make disappear behind plants.
  14. Never seen those before wow! Super cool!
  15. Those Bolivians are beautiful! I have so many questions haha. I’ve set up a tank to get a pair and attempt to breed them. 1. When you purchased them did you select for a male and a female or did you buy a group and wait for a pair to break off? 2. What foods in your experience condition them the best for breeding? I’ve breed some apistos and they have really taken to a mix of eXtreme Krill Flake and frozen blood worms so I’m curious if the rams would take well to a similar mix. 3. What temp do you run the tank at? I’ve heard mixed things about the best temp for them being they are rams and like to run rather hot. The tank looks awesome! Thanks
  16. Could look into like you mentioned the dwarf lily. At first they can be a bit much with the shear amount of runners they send with pads on the surface but after not too long of you cutting them off the plant gets “trained” if you will and stops sending em. I have a couple Lilly’s in a few tanks and have done that with all of em. Love the plant! hope this helps!
  17. I totally agree! They are beautiful to look at I would love a big tank with a big group of them!
  18. Pretty open ended I’m curious everyone’s experiences colony breeding corys and how they did it.
  19. Definitely hard to say for sure but definitely could have been a factor. Thank you for the help!
  20. Shoot I thought it that was a bit high but would have been ok. What’s the best way to drop the pH in y’all’s experience? I’ve added some Indian almond leaves but is there anything else? I just moved to a new area where the pH is higher than I am used to so I’ve never had to think about this lol. any and all tips are very appreciated!!
  21. Tank is a 40 breeder heavily planted. 72 degrees. 7.4 ph 200 GH 100 KH 30 Nitrate 0 Nitrite 0 Ammonia. The tank houses just the school of corys and and a large colony of cherry shrimp.
  22. I noticed a weird white cloudy fungus on my Habrosus Corys fins. There’s a school of 15 or so but I’ve lost 2 yesterday and noticed 2 more with it. I’ve treated the tank with paracleanse and Marycyn. (Butchered the spelling in those lol) Anyone have any idea what this could be? Couldn’t get a good pic of it but these kinda show.
  23. Didn't come out great on video but turn your volume up loud and you can hear the high pitch whine sound.
  24. I can't figure out how to get the video into a format that is allowed on this forum unfortunately. However, I was able to get a refund from the Coop which I then immediately ordered a coop light! Worked out great.
