  1. I am planning to set up a diy co2 system for my 10gal. But I have a few concerns. For example, if I run it at night will i end up gassing my fish? And is there a way to turn it off conveniently? I am planing on using two 1L bottles and the recipe i'll be using for each bottle is 1 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp baking soda. Is this too much or too little for my tank? Any tips for diy co2 in general? What are the "don't"s when setting it up? Thanks:)
  2. I do water changes on a Saturday and add ferts immediately after. I also add ferts on Tuesday. And if my water conditioner is removing some of the nutrients in the ferts, i don't notice anything. All my plants are growing well and have no deficiencies. Btw I only use seachem flourish comprehensive and my conditioner is tetra aquasafe plus, in addition to that I'm using tetra easybalance plus during my water changes. I hope that helps
  3. so i dose ich meds to help although its not ich?
  4. What do I do if I don't have a quarantine tank. If I keep water parameters healthy will the fish heal naturally?
  5. I have a fish in my tank with some sort of mild bacteria or fungal infection but I don't have any fish medication other than ich medication. I found that I had a container of sea salt(no additives)that I could add to the tank. I have read aquarium co-op's blog about aquarium salt and it said 1tbs/3gal is safe for nearly all fish. But I also have 1 mystery snail and many live plants. Can someone tell me what level of dosage will be safe?
  6. I bought some italian val 1-2months ago, and I put them is a 30%, 3% hydrogen peroxide dip for around 15min. A few days after putting them in my tank, all the leaves started to melt, i cut them off and till now they have barely grown back(I started putting root tabs a month ago). Anyone know why? Is it the dip or just bad vals from my lfs?
  7. @OceanTruth Finally the answer i was looking for! Thank you. I don't really have algae issues in my tank so buying liquid carbon would be a waste of money?
  8. Thanks I've already read that and it was really helpful. But i'm looking for personal experiences with liquid carbon.
  9. Yeah I know about that too. But i'm asking if it boosts plant growth in anyway. I know some companies market it like an alternative to co2 so i'm just wondering if it actually supplies co2 and how well.
  10. I am thinking of buying this product and I have a few questions for people who have used seachem excel or just liquid carbon in general. I've read online and seen many vids about liquid carbon and they all agree it is not a sub for co2 injection. I dose my aquarium with an all in one fert and I put root tabs in the substrate. I am trying to find a alternative to a co2 injection without breaking the bank. People who have used liquid carbon, is there a difference in plant grow once you dose it and how significant is it? Thx
  11. For your cleanup crew, I think corydoras will look great in your beautiful tank. I personally like bronze corydoras(only because they're the only ones I've kept)but other species will do. They're very peaceful and will never hurt a fly. I've heard the angelfish and corys get along amazingly and most fish keepers keep angelfish with them. Corydoras crave safety in numbers so I suggest at least 6 minimum 4 all same species. You can still keep those 9 glofish tetras if you decide to keep 6 corys. Just rmb to do regular water changes to keep the nitrates, nitrites and ammonia low. Good luck with your new tank!
  12. @gardenman If I've got an infertile male, will it eventually be fertile? And will different corys breed? I got my first corys from petsmart ad they were labeled as green emerald corys. After some research I realized that they needed t be in a group of at least 6 to be happy, so I went to a lfs and bought more. The cory they sold was labeled as bronze cory catfish. The ones that breed are 2 corys, one green emerald and one bronze, is that why the eggs aren't fertile?
  13. I've got bronze corydoras and I've got them to breed 3 times now(at 2 to 3 week intervals). I was pretty excited when I saw the eggs as it was my first time EVER seeing fish eggs in my tank(i'm pretty new to the hobby, 1 year experience only). I spent the whole afternoon making diy breeder containers from tupperware since i read that the baby fry and eggs may be eaten and I only have one 10 gal. I also read that eggs will turn brownish if it was fertilized. You can imagine my disappointment when i checked on them the next day and they were all white. And this has been happening all 3 times. I see the catfish doing the "T" position but not quite the "T" position. I've seen many videos of corydoras breeding and I always see the male lying on the side while doing this, but mine are just on their belly. The female also isn't actively trying to get the sperm, she just normally breathes(sorry for bad description,I don't have any video footage). So I am wondering if thats the issue none of the eggs are fertilized. Is it because my catfish don't know how to properly breed yet? Idk. Much help appreciated:)
  14. Corydoras are pretty good for beginners. They're both hardy and REALLY cute:)
