  1. Sorry, the top photo is the male! Bottom is the female 🙂 I don't have access to frozen blood worms, but I've been feeding them freeze-dried ones from the co-op.
  2. Here are photos of the pair. I’ve seen Dean’s video! It’s one of my faves. She looks orange here because she was near the top of the tank. She’s typically very pale.
  3. They’re in a 20G tall. I wanna breed these guys so bad but the female seems to hate the male and he keeps chasing her. She can’t seem to get away from him. I’ve had these guys for months and she hasn’t shown spawning colors even once. I don’t know how old they are, maybe she could be a juvenile? Things I’ve done: - Given them little houses. They have two. One cave and one coconut shell, they don’t use them. - Fed her mostly freeze dried bloodworms, she loves them. - Increased the water temperature to 82F - Maintain the pH at approximately 7, I’m not chasing pH but that’s what they like - Given them some dither fish. I have a small school of cardinal tetras, a mystery snail, an Oto cat, and two male Endlers. Everyone else is happy and keeps to themselves. - The tank is moderately planted and has driftwood for them to hide under.
  4. How big do they get? I only have a 20 gallon! Will anything eat them?
  5. I just found this lil guy in my tank. What is he and what should I do? My girlfriend already named him I hope he isn’t a pest species.
  6. My water went from crystal clear to looking 'dusty', I think my filter needs cleaning! The big piece of driftwood in my tank has a film of mulm on it now. I know this is good for plants, so I'm thinking of just leaving it, but my plants aren't near my wood, so I'm torn. I also have an Apisto cave that my male used to guard, but ever since it's gotten covered in algae he doesn't go near it. Similarly, the female doesn't hide in there anymore. Water parameters are fine, but this slight change in behavior makes me curious. Should I bother cleaning it? It's a little unsightly but it ultimately isn't doing any harm, at least harm that I can see.
  7. I can’t believe this isn’t in the manual, but it’s not. There’s a dial in the tank to control the surface skimmer and I don’t know which direction to turn it in order to turn the surface skimmer off. Does anyone have one of these? Can you help me out?
  8. I have no idea how to get it to stay in the gravel without clumping it! It’s so light!
  9. To be honest I kinda wanna buy more plants! Especially to put in front of the equipment. Maybe even some carpeting plants
  10. I recently rescaped. I have no idea what to do with the clump of dwarf hair grass. I know I need to cover the equipment better. Any suggestions? Low tech planted 20G I wanna get my male Apisto some more female friends so he can draw his attention away from the one in there. I hear they’re better in harems anyway. I’d really like to have a spawn! I feel like the wood is too much but I like the look of it.
  11. My fish absolutely love bloodworms. I keep reading that frozen is better than freeze-dried but there's no real reason as to why. Some say it's because they expand and cause bloat, some say there's less nutrition in them, and some say that they're functionally identical. I'd love to know. I could get frozen blood worms from my big box pet store but 1) I like supporting the coop (they're one of my 2 LFSs, although I've not been in person yet!) and 2) freeze-dried is just easier
  12. For anyone who cares, I traded them at my LFS for more cardinal tetras. I’ve never returned a fish before and getting them out of the tank was a learning experience to say the least.
  13. See picture. Very new to keeping plants. Are these the beginnings of new leaves?
  14. That would be funny to me if it didn’t seem to make my Platys so miserable. I can’t separate them, although I suppose I could get a few female Endlers but I’d be pushing the stock limits of my tank.
  15. I’ve posted about this before but now I have evidence that I can’t attach because it’s a video. My Platys are miserable because my Endlers chase them nonstop. Some people here suggested that Endlers are trying to mate with them and that it’s harmless, but my Platys are exhibiting stress behavior and I don’t have another tank to put them in. I do have a Ziss Breeder Box that I can put my Endlers in for a few days though. It’s not setup yet but it won’t be difficult. Any other ideas?
  16. I’m embarrassed to even ask this but I’m new to the hobby after being out of it since I was a kid. Is that white thing by his back fin poop or some kind of problem?
  17. I'm looking for a glass top for a "standard" 20G high, it's 24x12. I have a HOB, heater and airline tubing that needs routing. There are so many brands online and they all say the same thing, but the co-op doesn't sell them. I don't know which to get or what. Can anyone recommend any? The end goal is to replace my hood with a glass lid + separate lights so I can properly grow my plants.
  18. See photos. I know nothing about plants. Some have little black “pox”. I dose EasyGreen 2x/week. My lights aren’t bright enough for growth but not so dim that they should die. I’m going to be buying a new lid and light solution very soon.
  19. For anyone following this thread: It was a success! I was really skeptical of bleaching anything that would be going into my aquarium, but as long as it fully dries and passes the sniff test, it totally works if you have Purigen
  20. Thanks! His side view looks good to me!
  21. I don’t really have a reason to think he isn’t but I got my very first good look at him and his gills are kinda red? Maybe they just are red and I’ve never noticed? Is he eating enough? He’s never interested in anything I give him but is always munching on the wood, plants, and glass.
  22. Looks like we’re in this together 🙂
  23. I’m in the process of it, and I’m currently soaking my 24 hour bleached Purigen in 4 tablespoons of Prime and water. The instructions say to then soak it in a pH regulator for 4 hours before adding it back into the tank. I have one, but my pH is stable and slightly higher than 7. I’m worried that adding it back into the filter will cause my pH to crash. Has anyone had any experience with this?
  24. This may sound like a silly question but my tank is a 20G high that came from one of those kits that has an LED strip built into the bottom of a plastic lid. Not great for my plants. I want to upgrade my lights to this: Finnex Stingray LED Lights. WWW.AQUARIUMCOOP.COM Slim Profile Low Wattage Affordable The Finnex Stingray LEDs are a great value light. They've been out for a... but I don’t think I can do that unless I completely remove the lid off my aquarium. How can I use this light with my aquarium? Do I have to buy a glass lid? Do I run it without a lid? I have no fish that are known for jumping but that seems risky. If I buy a glass lid, how can I ensure access to my HOBs?
