  1. For some reason, Portrait Mode is more color-accurate with tannin tanks. I added a few plants after I removed the Amazon Sword. I probably need more.
  2. Please check the guidelines regarding posting about fish suppliers that are not ACO partners.
  3. Why are people boiling wood? Tannins are natural.
  4. I personally tested terrestrial moss, and documented it in my journal.
  5. Terrestrial moss is very resilient, and can handle time underwater or under snow, but it needs at least some atmospheric exposure. It works best on wood at or above the waterline, perhaps with some splashing or spray.
  6. There is a significant time gap for the Expanse, so we could see the remaining actors come back in due time. This was the last news that I saw on Stargate, from a fan site article, based on a Reddit thread: https://www.gateworld.net/news/2022/12/stargate-co-creator-brad-wright-responds-amazon-evolving-plans-stargate/
  7. @A3M0N, new topic for Stargate.
  8. @A3M0N, I’m not sure any advisor could prepare for SGU, or the command structure with body-swapping! MGM was in chaos at the time, but now Amazon owns it, and there is some new Stargate property on the way. I may have to split this thread!
  9. @A3M0N, if you need some fictional Air Force for your career transition, I suggest Stargate SG-1. 🙂
  10. @anewbie, I was shopping on the big marine site and they had a single-junction at $33, a double-junction at $56, and a lab-grade double-junction probe at $90. Maybe the double-junction units are more waterproof, and lab-grade means better internal components. I just want it to have the longest lifespan.
  11. @modified lung, you reminded me to order new calibration fluid with a new pH probe. I plan to get the lab-grade double junction model.
  12. I think the pH and temperature sensors are the same or similar for the ones you leave in the tank. I had to replace my temperature sensor after about 2-3 years ($38), and I’m about to replace my pH sensor after about 3-4 years ($90, 56, or 33).
  13. Neocaridina can be happy in small spaces. Enjoy!
  14. @BettaFishCO, I have never felt the need to think about ORP, but it came up when I was researching the Apex for freshwater, so I had to include it as a FAQ item. The more expensive Apex model can do marine ORP, and has 10V controls for select devices like certain pumps. You can always add modules for those and other features. I noted that in the Apex thread, because it made more sense to spend less for the EL model. I was fine with just pH and temperature. I later added a leak detection kit. I used to run marine, and spent a lot of time researching automation. I thought that I was going to run CO2 when I returned to the freshwater hobby, and I thought I might automate some pumps, and even lights. I manage technology for a living, so I couldn’t resist trying the Apex. However, I ended up going all-in on organic soil tanks, which are very boring, in a way that I really enjoy. My Apex is more like an aquatic weather station, but it is fun watching the parameters change with my lights, and my home temperature. I do like getting status and alarms on my phone. If I ran a full room, I would do more, and program triggers for various conditions, like a power outage. You can have the unit plugged into a UPS, with an external non-UPS source to detect an outage. I would use pH as a bookend control for CO2. The market has changed a lot since I researched all this. You can see that Cory and others are doing a lot with home automation, compared to just a few years ago.
  15. @OnlyGenusCaps, tons of folks lost power, and I didn’t try to go to work yesterday. It was a slushy, icy mess! I just found out that one of my friends is using his truck to power his folks’ pellet stove!
  16. @BettaFishCO, here is what I wrote: You cannot calibrate ORP for freshwater unless you add the PM2 module. https://shop.neptunesystems.com/products/salinity-module-pm2 Things may have changed, since it has been a couple of years. You can control and monitor remotely via the cloud connection. I was skimming through the thread, and a lot of the posts about competing products have dead links. It is hard to compete with an established system. I really don’t do enough with mine, but if I ever get CO2, I will partly regulate it with pH. Edit: my pH probe is complaining and probably needs replacement. I don’t think the pH is actually as low as those graphs report.
  17. It is very expandable. The programming is a bit old-school, but it supports so many things. Marine aquarists drive the the whole Apex ecosystem.
  18. Valcour got a flea treatment today. He was very unhappy about the chemical drip on his neck. We had a nice cat nap later.
  19. You can do siestas with any lighting pause you need. Some of us run dual siestas.
  20. @Schuyler, thanks! Lake Champlain has an island, and a sailboat race with your name. My cat is named Valcour. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuyler_Island https://lcyc.info/events/schuyler_island Thanks @Karen B.
