  1. So my first successful spawning attempt was right around 200 fry (counted) and after culls and death, its around 150 (haven't counted). Both were normal sized bettas, maybe the female was slightly smaller. So today i currently have a king pair and there doing amazing. If i just compare eggs clutches in the nest, there's way over 150 maybe 200 and every 2-3 min there dropping another 12-25 eggs like clockwork (I've been watching for about 30 min now. They have to have 350-450 eggs by now. So crazy!
  2. I would much rather have females then males. We want to specialize in sororities more than singular Bettas. But for science! My temps were right around 80-82. I have another spawn and I'm going to try and keep all factors the same. Hopefully it doesn't take too many batches to isolate the cause.
  3. So, first the observation. 180 fry in my first batch made it to 2.5 months. 1 let me repeat this, ONE turned out to be male. To research I go. Turns out, they still don't exactly know what causes a fishes sex. Even going down to the DNA level. At least this was what I understood from the papers. I might try and figure this out as I would rather not have to cup 1300 Bettas. Im going to switch one aspect of ever breeding to see if I can isolate and repeat the process. If I can, then I'll have it tested and see if we can't figure it out. I've never heard of such a ratio before. 1 male to every 180 females is insane and exactly what I could have wished for.
  4. This is my Cadillac Betta. Not perfect coloring but still great looking and his size is crazy. I doubt it's a giant but it's the biggest king I have. He's about as long as my knuckles without the thumb and I'm 6,1. @nabokovfan87thanks. I think that's what my friend does on her 4k phone. It over heats though.
  5. This is a different male. Absolutely massive. Another male. The velvet reds this one has is spectacular. But the best red I have is iin the first couple I showed. I haven't seen a red like those in a bloody Mary shrimp.
  6. Sweet, just tried some of those suggestions (no more lights for additional lighting, no special camera or settings) and I got some decent photos forsure. This male is what I would say show quality and I found a female from a different breeder and paired them. I'm curious to see how similar their fry will become. This is the female to that show koi in the first pics. All of these are kings besides a couple females.
  7. I have 2 or 3 awesome red male kois. Wish I had a similar female but I do have some nice females I think will be a net gain for the fry colors. I'll keep everyone updated. 2.5 months away from color.
  8. Ahh, I didn't know they don't move. And are you talking about the planaria looking things or the really long thin ones?
  9. Could be egg bound. Risky procedure to save it for egg bound but if all else fails, maybe give it a try. A 5 day fast should have cut it down if it was food related (or it should have bloated more with gases from blocked food, is my guess".
  10. Hi everyone. I'm interested in selling some of my bettas online but for that, I need some great pictures. It only makes sense if I can picture more than 7 an hour. If no postproduction is needed, I can get away with 5. My biggest problem is glare and getting that crystal clear image. Any help would be appreciated.
  11. Finally got some more into established breeding tanks. Here are some pic of the current "to be" fathers of my next batches. They're all kings so there some of the biggest I've seen in any store. This next batch might come out a little smaller but that's cause I'm adding more of the colors I'm looking for and i only have smaller ones of those. Id says about 2 or 3 gens later ill have some nice, show quality colors. P.S. I still suck at betta pictures. If I had an idea to easily get good pics, I'd probably start to sell online. suggestion would help.
  12. These are my first batch. Lots of kois it looks like
  13. Yeah, still not the best pics. That's definitely my lowest stat. I need to upgrade. They just went through a vigorous 2 week methylene treatment so they lost quite a bit of color. But now the new system should be pretty clean. Hopefully they bounce back in a couple weeks or less.
