  1. I would prefer it on the ground, but the shrimp and shrimplets will love it.
  2. Bag it. Floating carbon is the most annoying thing ever. If it sank that would be another thing
  3. Combined with a coop air pump it's also piece of mind that the water remains oxygenated if the power goes out or the hob doesn't restart.
  4. Well, I don't think it's laughing, but it's not mortally wounded. This is after 15 hour soak, then 48 hours in oxygenated quarantine tank. It was an interesting experiment, and might be good when caught early. Or maybe it needs a second treatment. These guys are going to be disposed of though.
  5. Pretty sure any canister needs O ring maintenance. Whether oiling or replacing.
  6. Well, it's been a couple weeks. I planted an amazon sword, red ozelot sword, sri lanka crypt, ludwigia ovalis, rotala orange juice (the scientific name im sure), anubias barteri, anubias nana, anubias nana golden, anubias nana petite. All of them came out of the process and healthy as going in. The ozelot appears to have melted heavily but i chalk that to conversion. There have been no snails after 2 weeks. Since these were from my lfs in 3 different tanks. I have to believe that snails exist, unless they have a stealth loach on duty. Also I think it killed any algae that may have been on them. Last night my new tank finished cycling so I moved everyone over and I pulled all my plants from the old tank. There is quite a bit of BBA on them and definitely snails. This morning, I don't see any snails, but the bba is still laughing contently on the plants. Not a change of color, can't rub it off by hand, just seems the same as before treatment. Since the main goal was to remove snails, I consider it a success for now. I only say for now because I don't know how long it takes pest eggs to hatch. Disappointed the bba didn't die, since a couple of those plants I wanted to put into the new tank, but I don't want to carry the bba into a new tank. ETA: That's pretty slick that the plants were automatically hyperlinked to the store. As a coder, I appreciate such little details, now I'm curious if it'll do it for all products.
  7. If you leave the Val alone, in the coming months it will send runners to make new plants and will take over the tank. You'll be able to clip them and either replant where you want or throw away. The pearl weed is a stem plant, you can cut the plant, take the clipping and plant it. You may want to wait until it is taller. I usually like at least 6 inches for the new plant. The monte Carlo will spread, and you can cut pieces including the roots. But it is a slow growing plant and I usually see recommendations for co2. ETA: maybe I'm getting scale wrong, but I don't see monte Carlo. It's usually a low growing plant used for carpeting.
  8. From what I remember from live chats, they were just items he found that were reality handy but they were having large failure rates over time. You should just get a single outlet coop pump for indoors anyway, you can always turn down the air pressure. Those pumps were really best used for when you needed a bucket or something short term
  9. Come out at 3 in the morning and stay at least 8 feet away from the tank and just watch.
  10. Also in your case, I would take your water to your lfs and have them test it.
  11. They typically like softer water with lower ph. Also they are also not the best genetically and have their own disease that makes them harder to keep alive.
  12. I have his, but I like the idea of the wipes since you can make more direct contact with the glass. But that's an interesting idea to try them outside of the tank first.
  13. Has anyone used these to clean their tank? I dont think it has any detergents, I imagine it's the same melamine foam that the normal ones are/the co-op sells. But I'm paranoid. There was no material list on the box.
  14. In the coming weeks I'm planting out my new 88 gallon. Before I committed to a large order going through this process I bought a couple plants from my LFS supplied by Dustin's plants. They started beautiful, and came out of the process just as beautiful. I didn't notice any small eggs on the leaves or snails in the lfs tank. But I'll be moving forward with this technique. Once I get to the end I will test my old plants that have plenty of snails and some BBA. The plants I did cycle: Bacopa carolina, Hydrophilia cordata after the first week I see nothing crawling around
  15. Pretty sure you're comparing apples to oranges. Look up TDS but I'm pretty sure it's everything (total after all). Not just gh which I think is just calcium and magnesium. Could be wrong.
  16. Cory says the more wattage, more failure. I just setup a new 88 gallon. It came with a cheap fluval m series 300. I decided to put my new in box 100 watt coop heater in. Ambient 70, filled at at 72. Within 5 hours I had it at setpoint 77 and I haven't seen the heater on in days. Granted my glass is 10mm and it has a tight lid. I'm of the school of more wattage only cooks fish faster school of thought. Also, I have an inkbird on it. Just in case.
  17. Weird that it would be after 4 years. Could the aquaclear motor be aging out? Maybe deep clean the hob and impeller. If it's ok I would pack the aquaclear with polyfill or coop polishing pads and kick everything into the water column for it to pick up. If it is the hob I'd probably change to an aquaclear 50. But if you've been happy for 4 years I would concentrate on what has changed recently.
  18. Taken with a video camera so not super clear. Plus this is a shrimp tank that's only 4 months old and I've been loathe to aggressively clean it until my colony is established but here are dozens of shrimplets of various sizes. It looks like different shrimp gave birth every week for a month judging by size ranges.
  19. The bigger issue is shards of glass. Hopefully it disappears into the substrate and it doesn't bite you in years to come. You could try vacuuming to see if any small loose stuff comes up.
  20. If recommend a metal valve as well
  21. Some guppies just like hanging at the surface. Playing in currents. Chasing bubbles. Also it may just need to adjust
  22. It's very easy to have too much light and grow algae. Cory only has 2 for filming. Pretty sure he has them off otherwise.
  23. The box stores always have the most self righteous employees. Pretty ballsy for a store that pumps diseases to every tank with their filtration. They also have an archaic corporate policy of an inch of fish per gallon. That said they deal with inexperienced people every day. Some of the conversations I overhear just make me shudder.
  24. Im going with the vivosun 800. Seems like it should be plenty. Thanks. But check out this product photo. She's just so happy to be pumping 800gph in her 5 gallon tank.
  25. Pump. I have a hygger version of a python but it's not practical to connect. So I plan on taking the tubing and connecting to an electric pump For refill I'll just fill the bucket with the sink sprayer
