I bought this background and painted it with acrylic paint. Then it is lit from below with this strip. I am still playing with the colors, but I wanted to be over the top to start with. Color tweaking is time consuming... The background sits outside the tank. I do not trust paints and chemicals to go in, as they may destroy every living thing inside the tank. 1

eatyourpeas
Thank, @Beardedbillygoat1975 and @Patrick_G, it is always fun to "remodel". This is what I was aiming for:

I also attended a lecture sponsored by our local aquarium society, GSAS, featuring Alex Wenchel, who talked among other things, about painting with light when doing aquarium photography. This was a lot of fun. The background was not as time consuming as I thought, and I am quite happy with how it came out. Staying true to the Puget Sound Biotope, I am going to sacrifice the green macros in the tank and focus on reds. They are growing (albeit slowly) all over the tank, so I am going deeper and trying to mimic lighting conditions below 50' and see what happens. The photos below are straight from the phone camera with no color adjustments. The new tank! The tank at night: These are Outstanding photographs!

eatyourpeas
I was able to get a close-up of the rockweed isopod (Idotea wosnesenskii) who has made the intake sponge his/her home. About .75" in size, curious little bit. 3

He is nowhere to be seen. His concealment spot is very difficult to look inside of, and I do not want to disturb him. I make sure food gets in there so he doesn't have to come out and risk his little shell and what is left of it. Fermat got eaten last night by Twinkle Toes: Brittle sea star was hungry and heard the lunch call: Lola has some Aiptasia neighbors and they seem to alternate active times: Little Baby is starting to show some pink: The red macros are taking off: And The Acrobat is sporting his red look: Today I brought in 9 gallons of happiness, a.k.a. seawater. I am slowly undoing the chemistry mess, created by my haste in doing a water change with mixed saltwater and causing a calcium and magnesium imbalance. With the weather now cooperating, I was able to get seawater. I now know what not to do if I find myself in need of mixing saltwater again. 😒 Edited January 21, 2022 by eatyourpeas 7

Guppysnail
RIP Fermat 😢. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Guacamole 🤞🏻The Acrobat is looking quite dapper. I hope he is not planning a date with an alluring young lady whom we shall not name. 1
eatyourpeas
A day of losses... again. Sorry @Guppysnail, grandcrabby Guacamole seems to have completely disappeared overnight. Not even a sign of shell to be found. 😟 Lola seems to have lost a battle with Aiptasia neighbors, and this was also my goodbye to Number One. He was completely devoid of color when I fed the tank earlier, and then went into a corner upside down. Upon fishing him out and putting him in a specimen container, the parasitic isopod we encountered a few episodes back dislodged from his gill. I think Number One was being asphyxiated by it. A few minutes with an airstone helped bring his color back, and when I put him back hin the tank he just settled on the bottom but was having a hard time breathing. A frantic flick of his tail put him within reach of Baby who lost no time grabbing a hold of him. Given that his gills were in a very sad state, I decided to let them be. The culprit: On a bit of a happier note, this little guy came to get a ride on top of Twinkle Toes:

Torrey
Oh myyyy. I am not allowed to read this journal out loud anymore, so I reserve the Puget Sound Biotope for after my spouse goes to bed. Farewell guacamole.... It's wonderful to see visuals that remind me of home... Have you ever accidentally gotten an octopus when collecting water? Hopefully Baby got the isopod too! I have to say that your tank is far and away more dramatic than the most over-the-top international soap operas. I mean if it is revealed that one of the critters has an evil twin, I won't even be surprised!

eatyourpeas
The gang of 21 Bay gobies came out to eat a shrimp tail I put in the tank. This allowed me to count them, but also noticed that the one with the parasitic isopod still has it in his gill. The one that got Number One was another isopod of the same kind, so now I am not sure how many there are in the tank in total. Lola loved a shrimp pleopod, and all other anemones seem to like shrimp meat except for one, who basically gave me a spit back. Expecting caviar???? 🤪
