  1. Hi all, I was wondering how people maintain moss on decore or wood. I generally like a jungle look but have had thoughts on trimming this Christmas moss to be contained to the spider wood. It's kinda spreading around and I'm not sure if I want to let it get big right there again. Also do I just cut it with scissors as far back as I want? Can I encourage it to grow on that last stick or should I just glue it?
  2. Here I'm posting my backyard pond and will try to keep it somewhat regularly updated. It's a 100 gallon horse trough with a half whiskey barrel full of lava rock as the filter. I have it covered to keep my young children from falling in. I know many people have been hesitant to using a galvanized tubs but I have had good luck so I wanted to post my experience. I started it in spring of 2021 but was waiting to add fish until the rice fish I wanted became available. In late fall I finally found 6 lamé rice fish from Dan's fish and put them in my pond but it was already to cold to get them breeding. They stayed in there all winter doing quite well and when they finally started breeding for me in spring 2022 I found out I had to move. I decided to move the pond to my parents house while I found a new house. At my parents house I also added my red dragon guppies from twin city guppies to ensure their well-being during the move. I had 15 rice fish at that time and after the move to my parents I think only 5 survived. In June 2022 I moved the pond to it's final destination and after catching out all the guppies (several hundred fry and doezens of adults) I was left with only 2 male rice fish! 😞 In July 2022 I bought and added 4 gold rice fish and a trio of red neon psedomogil from Dan's fish. Currently I'm feeding and growing out these fish in hopes that this summer makes me hundreds of the fish I was trying to make instead of the guppies I already had too many of inside. The pics with the wheat grass growing out of the top of the barrel are from it's first location and the other pics are where it lives now. It still needs work as it's not currently covered and now that I have swapped the filter to the other side I have to rework the pipes that feed the filter to be more hidden. the bottom wine barrel is 99 percent full of lava rock in order to support the top whiskey barrel witch has a plastic liner in it and is also full of lava rock except for the top black river rocks for looks.
  3. Looks sweet. Good luck. Patients is probably key. I definitely don't know so make your best guess but it seems like that light might be a bit weak so maybe increase the duration?
  4. Has anyone trired putting either of these plants in an outdoor pond to see if they will overwinter. I live in California and it will never freeze but it is rather cold for most of the winter and spring
  5. What a cool project. Is there a reason you don't fill the pool up more? A deep pool would likely not freeze to the bottom and white clouds or rice fish would do fine through the winter I think
  6. Wow does this help!! Well except for my bank account because now I'm going to order multiple strains
  7. Hi from Cali! I like live food, live bearers and live nice fish.
  8. I need an answer to this question too. I recently lost all but 2 males of my lamé rice fish and I can't buy more of this strain. I want a koi looking fish of all sorts. Should I just buy several of what I can get my hands on? Will they end up all brown? Has anyone ever mixed them up before? The lamé strain I got from Dan's fish did end up looking quite different than the parents after I was a few generations in. Maybe some strains required culling to remain as they are "supposed too"
  9. I moved my rice fish/guppy pond and after taking out all the guppies I found that I only have 2 rice fish left! 😞 I hope I have a pair. I will have to use the pictures to check and I might have to buy more
  10. The video addresses the crown molding at the top so I'm assuming they are asking about how it attaches to to wall. It's barely visible in the picture.
  11. Are the worms flat or round? Do they move like inch worms do or like earth worms do? Look up planeria and detritus worm pictures to match it to.
  12. I am also looking to copy this design in my future fish room. I do believe that the bottom is essentially sleeper 2x4s that are screwed straight to the floor and the vertical 2x4s sit on top of it. Exactly how walls in typical houses are made. The top is probably similar but perhaps secured back to the wall. I am hoping to get more insight as the store expansion videos are released. Anyone who lives local and could snap a picture of the bottom and top would be greatly appreciated. Also I plan to have more than one tank size in my fish room and would love to see pictures of others who have copied this look.
  13. I found a useful tool to help me keep track of my feeding schedule. The "pill popper" is 10 bucks on Amazon for a 3 pack and I keep one on every tank. Sometimes I feed in the morning sometimes at night and sometimes I want to fast them a day and this really helps keep my memory straight. I might start one for fertilizer too. Hope some of you all find it helpful too
  14. How should I read the GH if it's a pink color? Higher than 300? Also what does it mean when the KH is tiedie colored? Is it 0 or 180 or should I average it out?
  15. Thank you @Coluand @indranilfor your ideas. I hadn't heard of black spot disease and perhaps that's the cause. I feed mosquitoes out of an outdoor pond so perhaps the parasites came from there. I feed all my tanks this way on occasion though and only see the spots on this one fish. Also if I did have an ammonia spike would it be likely to see these marks on my other fish? I have 1 betta, 2 female guppies, 15 ember tetras, 6 corrys and 2 dwarf frogs in this aquarium as well as cherry shrimp and snails and see no other spots. Thanks to anyone with thoughts on the problem 🙂
  16. Hi all, my Scarlet Badis has developed black spots on it. He appears very active and is still eating quite well. He came out of a 3 week QT with the med trio looking really good with no markings. That was many weeks ago and i have just now noticed his new colors. My parameters are: Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrate: 25ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Hardness: 300ppm? Buffer: 100ppm? pH: 7.4 Chlorine: 0ppm Temp: 76 degrees If anyone has any advice please do share.
