  1. Look for ones with all plastic construction to keep it more likely to be fish safe So are you looking for that specific valve? I could find similar valves available
  2. Those look like "push to connect" ball valves. Google that or Amazon should have some available.
  3. Sorry for the clickbait title lol. Im looking to see if anyone can confirm my snail species or type or whatever. I have had these snails for years and have always thought they were MTS but my brother thought they were rabbit snails. Here's what I know: They get 2 inches long when full grown. They burrow under ground but not often. They have a plate that seals them in tight when they curl up. They have pretty spotted flesh. They eat plants more than I like. Anything new gets really munched on. They are very prolific and I now have many but not literally hundreds in each tanks. The reason I'm suddenly curious is because I have been struggling with plants for a while now and I'm trying to double check my parameters. Like I said these snails are quite ruff on new plants while they are acclimating to my water parameters. I feed very heavy in order to keep the snails fat and happy but that is hard to maintain and also doesn't help the total population of snails to stay at a healthy level.
  4. Oh man I completely forgot to mention that. Yes I was dosing easy green the whole time but I never added root tabs. Do you think the tank can be brought back or am I fighting an uphill battle at this point? I might just switch to gravel substrate and try to keep it going with root tabs.
  5. Anyone know what's going on here? I set this 10 gallon aquarium up by blending 3 aqua soils together and planting slow growing plants expecting to get a long life out of it. Recently I have learned that most high end aquascapes are only able to run for a year ish before running out of nutrients. I'm wondering if that is what happened here or if the plants were shocked when I moved to a new house last year. The water from the old house and the new house tested almost exactly the same so I didn't think that was it but also I have been so busy lately that I haven't really been paying the best of attention to this tank. Tank maintenance in general has been water changes to keep the nitrates lower than 50 but never any gravel vacuuming and no root tabs added. Tank was set up in November 2019 Looked great in February 2022 And looks like a wasteland now in January 2023 Inhabitants have been MTS, cherry shrimp, kuhli loaches and least killifish. I'm also suspecting the MTS of eating my plants after they (the snails) got bigger. I removed around 20 large snails today. I have always feed heavy to avoid the snails having to resort to eating plants. The pictures might not be in chronological order but the set up pic is pretty obvious and the final pic is just mulm really. The plants are crypt lucens and Christmas moss. The loss of all that crypt lucens is what I'm most sad about even though that Christmas moss was looking really cool for quite some time.
  6. Anybody think this is pearling? Or something else entirely? Other than moss and duck weed (that I'm fighting with) this is the only plant in the aquarium. It gets easy green every week and the nitrates are around 25 ppm. The leaf that these bubbles are coming from appears pretty ruff. The bubbles aren't stopping for at least 5 minutes. The last water change was last week so it's not as a result of that. I did just rescape the tank and also I removed a bunch of duckweed so the annubius is no longer in the corner in the shade.
  7. Wow that's really useful insite and advice. Thanks for the picture. I noticed that the tanks in Cory's fish store all have a little pipe cap looking thing above the lid and I now think it's covering the strainer. I really appreciate your response
  8. These are good ideas. I have 4 pieces of glass from work that are 36" x 10" x 7/16" and my plan is to make a low boy style aquarium with them. I'm planning to weld up a metal frame then screw 1-1/18" plywood to the top and sika flex stainless steel to the top of that. I would essentially have a coffee table type stand at that point about 1" bigger (38" x 38") in each direction then the aquarium would be. I will then silicone the glass to the stainless steel top of the table and to each other to make the aquarium. I'm hoping that silicone adheres well to stainless steel which I think it does. The glass is very thick so that will help as well.
  9. I'm starting to build my fish room and have some tanks ready to drill. I'm aiming to have an auto water change system the same as Corry uses in the store and in his fish room. I know he has gone over it many times but I still have some questions. What size bulkhead do I need? On the inside of the tank can I put a street 90 elbow? Do I point it straight up? Do I need to put a strainer on it? Is there a video I possibly missed that explains it? I am using 40 gallon breeders and 10 gallon aquariums. I would like the water level to stay high as well as keep a lid on it. Is there a conflict of space here? Do fry and shrimp go over the overflow often?
  10. Great advice everyone. My rain water tested 0,0,0,0,low, 0. Which I expected. I'm trying to breed corydoras juli (false). It's going to be about a week before I want to use the rainwater. What percent would you change? They are going to be in a 10 gallon aquarium with sand substrate a single coop planter and a nano sponge filter. Other than heavy feedings are there any more tips? I also want to breed psedomogil luminates and am getting nervous that both fish species might be getting too old to breed. The Corry's are around 2 years old and the rainbow fish are 6 months old but I heard they don't live long
  11. I don't have gutters on my house and I put a trash can on wheels that I use for water changes under the valley eve of my roof and filled up a whole 30 gallon barrel over night. Is this water okay to put straight into my aquarium? It's not as clear as I would have expected. My roof is "clean" (no leaves or dirt built up) so I don't expect too many contaminants except the odd bird poo. Anyone else collecting rain water and want to share their techniques?
  12. Has anyone tried using other brands of sand that are also kiln dried and graded? Home depot has another brand of sand by basalite that is kiln dried and graded. 7 bucks for a 50 lbs bag. It's mesh 30 but I don't know if that's large or small. What size was the lapis luster sand that Corey likes?
  13. Well you are sure having fun!! Keep it up! My tank was a 20 long with moderate plants
  14. Definitely! I also put the coop planters in the QT so I can keep plants in there. If I use salt obviously I have to take out the plants but I'd say at the least keep some decore in their so they feel like they are hiding. Not too much though. Visibility is super important during QT so if you can't see them the QT process isn't really working you know
  15. I put daphnia in a tank that had gone green after taking the Betta out. The daphnia cleaned the water for me and I tried to keep them going after reintroduceing the fish but eventually they were all eaten
  16. Turn your 2000 gallon into a rescue tank for all the common plecos in 29 gallon tanks
  17. Not sure if there's a good online source but having kept them for a while I'd say feeding heavy and live food is beneficial for ADF. They will let food drift right past them and then will lunge at food they smell but that isn't even near them. Black worms in the gravel is super fun and I highly encourage that in every tank but certainly in tanks with slow eaters like ADF. I think brine shrimp die in freshwater after a while though. They also seem to like having friends so try to get a few ADF. Another tip is to be careful with decore. Sadly I had plastic decore in my sand tank and the ADF dug under it and drowned inside after trapping itself. Try to keep them in shorter tanks because they will appreciate a quick trip up for air. They like tank mates but remember their slow eating practice. Kuhli loaches and nano fish are great tank mates. They are super fun and I really love mine.
  18. Anyone know what temp to stop feeding medaka ricefish at? The pond is currently at 60 degrees and when I gave them some food today they didn't seem very interested in it. I feed them at a different time of day today so maybe that's why they seemed less interested. Anyways I know you don't feed koi when it's in the 40s or something but is there a rule of thumb for medaka?
  19. Thanks for your insight. I had a trio outside all summer but didn't get any fry. They have been in a 20 long for 2 weeks now with a Betta. I'm hoping to get fry soon 🙂
  20. Anyone know how long the eggs take to hatch. Like if I use 2 mops and swapped them out? I'm also trying to multiply the trio I have into a nice large school
  21. Mini update here. I can only count 6 fry so not the biggest yeild but I'm happy for them. I sparingly see the rainbow fish. Pretty sure all the fry are rice fish. The water is finally clearing up a bit so I can see my Amazon sword plant for the first time. The water temp is all over the 60s but never dipped into the 50s yet. Will the fry survive outside if it gets colder? I think I will take the rainbow fish inside tomorrow. How do I transition the fish to a 78 degree aquarium?
  22. Wow your parva looks amazing!! Great pic! I have larger gravel in my tank and I know from trying that any smaller plants won't stay down for more than a day. Do you have higher or lower light on your parva?
