  1. I've kinda hit a keeping rut and want to try something new. I've got a wall that is perfect size for a 29gal (30in x 12in) and was thinking about a solitary musk turtle and a few platies or swordtails. Is this an appropriate size tank for a lone (probably going to go with male, as they stay smaller) musk turtle?
  2. I'm in Milwaukee, and I'm putting my tub out soon, to kind of 'mature' (get algae, microbes, stuff like that going) and will add fish mid-May. I do medaka, but if I did guppies or something like that, I'd probably wait til sometime in June.
  3. I think Brian is talking about Coop branded lights. Everytime it's mentioned in a vid, they're "months away" lol. When they finally release, with all the R & D they're doing on them, they will be EPIC, however.
  4. Welcome! I'm in Milwaukee. How's the local fish store market on the other side of the state?
  5. -I'd say people who don't take advice (even after asking for it). "How many angelfish can I have in my 10 gal?" "That's not a suitable fish for that size tank. Here's some alternatives." "I really wanted angels so I got 10. Fix my aggression/disease/overstocking problems!" -Unsolicited advice, as well. "Look at my aquascape I'm very proud of!" "OMG, you have a betta, that is perfectly healthy and loving life, in a 5 gal?!? Upgrade to a 20 gal you monstrous abuser!"
  6. Apparently, Stallone still has (or had until recently) the turtles from the movie, almost 50 years.
  7. It's supposed to be 30s for the next week in Milwaukee and last frost is usually in May, so I usually wait til then. But I'm always ready! First year with a new 100 gal Rubbermaid I'll be putting the reed fencing around (idea from a video with Dean, why not steal from the best!). I'm going to throw a bunch of varieties of medaka in there and see what happens.
  8. I have four keyhole cichlids in a 55 gal and they are painfully shy, to the point of crashing into sides of the tank, and I think if I didn't have a lid, a few would have jumped out, just by me opening the door to the fish room. Beautiful fish, and after I sit still they'll come out do cichlid things, but still. As juveniles, they'd be out and about, swimming with the rainbows in their tank, but as adults not so much. For a featured tank in a prominent part of the house (which your tank definitely should be) I'd go with something else. Food for thought.
  9. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
  10. The green neons are likely to be eaten, especially if you are adding full grown (and wild caught) angels. But if they're surviving the festivum, they might be ok. That being said, I totally get the appeal of angelfish. Those pics are beautiful. I am trying to talk myself out of getting one for my 75 that has ember tetras as I don't want to have to fight through hundreds of plants to catch out...
  11. It's all good. The males and females are identical in body coloration, both having the neon blue sheen, which is what makes them so cool, you can have both without sacrificing color. Males will have deeper bodies, with dark red fins and tails. Females are more streamlined with yellow to orange fins and tails.
  12. Came in to post this. I can totally picture Clark Griswald doing tank maintenance. "Sunday afternoon water change, Russ, let's do it! Rusty? Audrey? Anybody?"
  13. The females are just as gorgeous and it's fun watching them flirt and the males spar over them. Also, as a nerm, fun to say "you know how to tell the males from the females?" 🤓 to anyone one looking at your tank, whether they want to know or not lol. I even got my 6 year old saying it too. Any reason why you only want males?
  14. Anybody keep these two together? I have 2 bolivians in a 75 gal, moderately planted with rock and driftwood for hiding spots/territory. My original plan was to add 2-4 more, but the borelli opal caught my eye and made me reconsider. Additionally, the bolivians were paired until I upgraded tanks, I think they have since divorced. (No fry ever survived, so no custody issues).
  15. I'm ok with adult SAEs just being fish lol. Just want one to clean up a little BBA I have going right now as a juvenile, then he can grow up to be whatever he wants to be.
